diy peg board headboard If you’re looking for a versatile way to decorate a bedroom, a peg board headboard is a simple solution. It will look great and you can easily change it to suit your needs. We’ll show you how to make one in a few simple steps. STEP 1. CUT THE TIMBER For this project, choose the headboard size that suits your bedroom or bed. You can then get your timber pre-cut to size at your local Bunnings. For our headboard, we cut the pegboard to 1830mm x 905mm. For the frame, we cut the 42mm x 19mm pine into: 2 x 900mm 2 x 1800mm 2 x 862mm For the border, we cut the 30mm x 12mm pine into: 2 x 1835mm 2 x 877mm STEP 2. ASSEMBLE THE FRAME Create a rectangle frame out of 2 x 1800mm pine lengths and 2 x 900mm pine lengths. Make sure the edges are flush. Use the nail gun to connect the frame together. Always wear your earmuffs when using the nail gun. STEP 3. ATTACH THE CENTRAL SUPPORT Measure along the top and bottom of the 1800mm timber and mark the halfway point. Attach the 862mm piece of timber at these marks with the nail gun to support the frame. STEP 4. FIX THE PEG BOARD Place the pre-cut peg board on top of the frame. Make sure it’s flush with the edges. Use the nail gun to fix the peg board to the frame and the central support. STEP 5. MAKE THE BORDER With the 30mm x 12mm pine, use the set square to mark 5mm along each length. This will be the border overhang for the peg board. Use the nail gun to secure the border to the frame with the 5mm overhang. You won’t need to put a border at the bottom of the headboard as this will be sitting on the floor. STEP 6. SAND THE PEG BOARD With your dust mask on, give the pegboard a sand using 120 grit sandpaper. Wipe away any dust before you start painting. STEP 7. PAINT THE PEG BOARD Choose a colour that suits the décor of your bedroom to paint the peg board. We’re using Malay Grey. Using a roller to paint the pegboard will give you a better finish and it’s much quicker to apply. STEP 8. DECORATE THE PEG BOARD Once the paint has dried, move the headboard into place and use hooks to hang your favourite things where you want them.

buttermilk scones Sunday is the perfect day for scones, and this recipe provides you with some great sweet and savoury variations. INGREDIENTS • 3 1/2 cups self-raising flour • 2 tablespoons caster sugar • 60g butter, chopped • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk • jam and whipped cream, to serve

METHOD Step 1 Preheat oven to 220°C/200°C fanforced. Grease and flour a 8cm-deep, 19cm (base) square cake pan. Step 2 Place flour, sugar and a pinch of salt in a large bowl. Add butter. Using fingertips, rub butter into flour mixture until mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs. Step 3 Make a well in the centre. Add buttermilk. Using a flat-bladed knife, stir until dough almost comes together. Place
on a lightly floured surface. Step 4 Knead gently until dough comes together. Press out to a 3cm-thick round. Dip a 5cm round cutter into flour to prevent dough sticking. Cut out scones. Gently press leftover dough pieces together and repeat to make a total 16 scones. Step 5 Place scones, touching, in prepared pan. Bake for 15 to 17 minutes or until light golden and hollow when tapped on top. Serve with jam and cream. Source: www.taste.com.au
