Product Design - Siestable​

Students in Taiwan always have to nap in a prone position, because classrooms are too narrow to let them lie down to sleep. According to many researches, it does more harm than good, especially for elementary school students who are still growing! In order to fully understand students' behavior and needs in elementary school, we went to different kinds of schools to do some observations. Though they are in different environment, there are many similair problems and phenomena between them. 1.Siesta-Students complain about the discomfort of siesta and dislike taking it. 2.Arrangement-Students are learning behaviors mainly in primary school. Things on the table-and-chair are always in a mess. 3.Empathise-Moral education outweighs others; teachers and parents wish they can establish a good personality and emphasize everyone around them.
Product Design - Siestable​
Siestable is a school desk design that enables students to take a siesta
comfortably and healthily in a supine position. To change the "Siestable" from its normal function to the siesta function, the child can simply PRESS, ROTATE, and then lying down to SLEEP. The design of drawer and hangers, and foam material used on Siestable provide students a much better environment to learn and grow up.

Product Design - Siestable​
PRESS buttons below desktop on two sides. Buttons are laying under the fillet edge of desktop. They are connected to the mechanism, and work only when being pressed with both hands in the same time; Only the student sitting in front of the desk can operate the mechanism; this prevents from tricks and is also a fool-safe design.
ROTATE the desktop to a specific angle, and then rotate the chair 90 degrees. According to ergonomic tests, researches and observations, one range of students' heights fits one specific angle. When rorating to the specific angle, students can feel a protrusion that hints them to release the buttons. Then rotate the chair, and put it down to a comfortable distance to the table. It's a simple but flexible design.
SLEEP in a supine position. Grow up healthly. The largest area is provided.Downwards center of gravity makes table stable and reliable. Side boards serve as shades, and chair back as chair arm. Fetch the coat on it, and take as sheet. Then have a good nap. When waking up, just simply use the chair back to help getting up.
Creative storage design Side schoolbag hanger; slanting table legs make spaces to place schoolbags. Bags won't protrude and block the walkway. Side drawers separate books and stationaries. Put textbooks of general subjects with back upwards on left side, while pencil cases and stationaries on the right. Everything can be seen clearly, easy to fetch, and used in order. Spaces and hangers under the chair; students can easily lay down kettles, and hang their bags when sitting. Things won't occupy their learning spaces.
Foam material used Drawer is covered with yellow foam. It lowers down the voices on taking and putting things, and prevent things from rolling and falling as well. It provides a good environment for learning.

Put down schoolbag, lunchbag, kettle... Take out Chinese textbook from the bag. Separate bags, stationaries, and textbooks, and classify them systematically. Teach students to organize things , and change them imperceptibly.

Class dismissed! Wow! The walkway is wider than bgefore. Spaces under the chair, and slanting table legs to place schoolbag make students go through the walkway more easily.

Finishing 4 classes is tiring... Cor! the soft chair back is great! The chair back is covered with foams, and that makes it more comfortable for sits.

The heretofore annoying siesta now become my favorite. PRESS, ROTATE, SLEEP. Easily establish students's own comfortable siesta world.

Bump noises on taking and putting things all disappeared! The foam on the drawer prevent things from rolling and falling, as well as lower down the voices.

Teacher asks us to hand in exercises. Don't forget to bring homeworks home. Side drawer and separating books and stationaries. It's more convenient to find things.

A tableware design practice for Normann Copenhagen, Demark. Hoslsmove is designed for home party. Hosts can offer guests a more comfortable, and enjoyable party. Guests can easily built relationships with new friends and have more time to talk and play -- not just find their cups and plates all the time.

Features in 1.Soft-plastic material provides the best touch and use. 2.Except the fork, both cup and plate have holes to let fingers in. It makes "portable" possible. 3.Fork is shaped from slice of cakes, and can be set stationary on plate.

Brand spirits and element Normann's Series is almost a indoor-design brand, covering tableware, kitchen implements, and house ornament. It emphasizes on "A+B=C" and "Less is More" As other Scandinavian brand, simple is featured, no more complicated decorations. Normann distinguish itself by "material" and "color". For example,"grass" uses clay to topple the image of "the product should be". "Funnel" makes the best use of plastic. Generally speaking, plastic is still frequently used. Red, white and black are the main colors.

Design Process Considering about Normann's product evolution, the situation focus on a home party that brothers and sisters invite their own friends. Home party needs a series of products, like cups, plates, forks.

Party is a place to make some new friends. Thus, dismiss the obstruction of making friends is important.
Design features and contributions Pallet gives a concept of "portable" dishware. "Slices from cake" gives fork-and-plate set a vivid image. Holemove makes it possible that holding cup, fork and plate in one hand at the same time. It provides guests convenience of taking their own dishware when moving and ease of constructing new relationships. It lets guests in home party make friends more easily. If new friends is not insterested in conversation, just eat/drink foods in the hand and then slowly walk away.

Morphology diagram Because stick-shaped fans are fully-developed, and net basket fans have more limitation in design, we choose box-shaped fans with line basket to do the redesign.
Ergonomic Researches On operating the fan, the sizes and relationships between parts/ buttons and hands is important. To follow the CNS regulations and smooth the operation, after consulting the Human Factors, we summarize that the recommanded sizes between the lines of baskets is 2cm to 3cm. the recommaned sizes of the buttons is 1cm to 1.9cm, and distances between them should be 1.3cm.

Product Design - Poker Chair​
Poker Chair Little triffles can be fun!!! Chair Poker has both sides flat. One is as card-back with a small trench to hold,and another is signed as poker cards. Taking out &place chairs is like shuffling &dealing cards, while folding& putting them back is like drawing& showing cards. Chair Pokers make the triffle, placing chairs, be much more fun.

Design Features Concept is from broad sea, which gives the feeling of independent, passionate but mature. About products' shapes,downside is larger--shows the image of independance sharp arc--looks well-executed, mature as well. About products' color,water blue but darker, sand white--to let it more staid and mature. Packages also use the coloration. Blue is for the sky and the sea, while yellow for the sand. Red spot on top represent sun at the beach, and different hues of red is used for dierent products. (cream, milk, and lotion)

OLDanfunny exercise book The main idea is to use the image and style of "old-fashioned" children, who were always printed on our exercise books, to reminiscent of our primary school times. In the same time, add some sarcastic elements to let this book be funny. On the cover, its title is "Life Obsercation Diary", and the sarcastic element is cheating in a test. On the back, here changes the original saying to "Do things like a upright student. And be a worriless beauty." to encouage ourselves to be positive."
