Every NXT model is a MasterCraft, not an off-brand with our badge slapped on it. We don’t cut corners in places you can’t see like the competition does. We carpet the entire lining of the boat, we use back plates instead of driving screws into raw fiberglass and we use one common harness across every MasterCraft—not a different one for the entry-level. 05. WHAT’S UNDER THE HOOD?
Ilmor is the exclusive powerplant partner to MasterCraft. The Ilmor 5.7L that comes standard in the NXT provides industry leading horsepower at its block size and the most reliability in any marine engine ever built. If you want to upgrade, the Ilmor 6.2L engine has more torque (445 ft. lbs. compared to 427 ft. lbs.) and horsepower (430 vs. 396) than the upgraded Indmar 6.2L Raptor 440 you’ll find in competitive boats.

06. IS IT SPORT READY?
No matter what you’re up to, the NXT line is going to perform better than other entry-level boats. The NXT’s custom built hull offers the best handling, surfing and wakeboarding in the category. The optional surf system is custom designed to work with the NXT hull. It provides a superior wave and hard ballast tanks instead of soft-sided sacks to make the entire experience more reliable and easier. The best proof of performance is to experience the difference for yourself. Always demo and compare before you commit.
07. IS THE SURF CAPABILITY EASY AND EPIC?
The NXT surf system is custom matched to the hull and provides a custom wave for every ability level. It is the easiest entry-level surf system to operate, taking less than half the steps of our competitors. Not only that, but Moomba hulls require uneven weight to get the boat to surf—a workaround we left behind a generation ago. According to an independent surf study out of the University of Michigan, NXT makes a stronger wave, uses less fuel, operates at a lower engine speed, is quieter and releases 95.8% less carbon monoxide than the Axis 22.

Moomba’s onboard cruise control is unreliable, with huge variations in speed. That’s a big problem for surfing. The Zero Off Cruise Control that’s standard in the NXT line uses GPS for superior speed precision. If you want that on your Moomba or Axis, you’re looking at a $1200-1500 upgrade. But even then you’ll be squinting at your speed on a black and white screen salvaged from last century (Moomba), or be without the option for a screen at all (Axis). NXT comes standard with a 4.3” color screen to monitor your systems with confidence.
09. HOW WILL IT WEAR?
Most of the contact surfaces of your boat are vinyl upholstery. NXT uses the industry’s most puncture resistant vinyl. Not to mention triple-density, self-draining reticulated foam and rotocast seat frame construction. Don’t get ripped. Moomba and Axis cut costs by using a much lower quality vinyl for the seats, and there’s less seating surface which makes the cabins feel cramped. NXT seats open and close with gas-assists, look great and stay comfortable for the life of the boat.
10. WHAT’S THE CATCH?
When buying a towboat, a rock-bottom price often means rapid depreciation. If you want real sticker shock, ask your dealer to compare the original prices for MB, Moomba and Axis to the used market in your area. Don’t get stuck with a dud when it’s time to trade-in or level-up. MasterCraft boats have high resale value, and the NXT was designed to command top dollar even after you put the hours on it.
