Mark Preston
Red Rag Gallery is delighted to present the latest solo exhibition by artist Mark Preston.
His acrylic landscapes feature Derbyshire, the Lake District, Cornwall and now Wales; rural settings and seascapes to which he returns, time and time again. Painting ‘en plein air’ is intrinsic to Mark’s practice. Each painting in this new collection has begun outdoors, on location, regardless of weather, season, or light.
“For me, experiencing the landscape and weather directly is essential to attempt to capture them in paint; I just need to be there to respond to the situation and the spirit of the landscape.”
The titles of paintings in this latest exhibition are evocative of nature’s constant transition: ‘November Morning’, ‘Sunlit Sea’, ‘Dusk’, and each is an authentic record of Mark’s own experience in creating it:
“I tell you; it can really focus the mind if the tide is on the way in to get me, the light is fading, or a storm is approaching…the emotions I feel at the time can go directly into the work.”
Born in 1976, Mark Preston grew up in Derbyshire, surrounded by paintings and painters. Sketching trips with his father, renowned artist, Rex Preston, inspired him to study Art and Design at college, where he received a distinction before going on to study Illustration at Anglia University. Mark has exhibited continuously since the age of 21, and his work has become increasingly sought after.
All paintings are in acrylic and for sale on receipt of this brochure. SCAN TO
