REDSTONE Article by Family and MWR Staff

nstructional programming fosters the development of critical life, leadership and social skills. Latest educational research confirms that after-school instructional programs benefit on all levels. Instructional programs have been shown to promote the intellectual development of children and youth. Young people spend as much as 80% of their waking time outside the classroom. When involved with after school programming, they are less likely to engage in undesirable behavior. Additionally, kids active in the arts are 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement and participate in a math or science fair. They are 3 times more likely to be elected to a class office and 2 times more likely to graduate college.
SCHOOL AGE SERVICE (SAS) SAS is designed for children in grades kindergarten through 5th grade. The after-school program starts at 2:30 pm and ends at 6:00 pm, Monday - Friday.
YOUTH CENTER (YC)
The center is designed for youth in 6th - 12th grade. The after-school program starts at 1:00 pm and ends at 6:30 pm, Monday - Friday. Social events occur throughout the year.
sources: msurileycenter.com, Team Redstone Brief
For YC patrons looking to get more involved, they can join the Keystone Club, the Teen Council or Torch Club, the Pre-Teen Council.
AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM
SAS and YC’s after-school programs are open to all eligible patrons and include USDA approved snacks, programmed activities, homework center and computer lab with safe wi-fi surfing. Each program offers assistance in developing life skills through the following services: citizenship and leadership opportunities, sports, fitness and health, arts, recreation and leisure, academic support, mentoring and intervention. The United States began observing Gold Star Mother’s Day on the last Sunday of September, in 1936. The Gold Star Wives was formed before the end of World War II. The Gold Star Lapel Button was established in August 1947. The term Gold Star family is a modern reference that comes from the Service Flag. These flags/banners were first flown by families during World War I. The flag included a blue star for every immediate family member serving in the armed forces of the United States, during any period of war or hostilities in which the armed forces of the United States were engaged. If that loved one died, the blue star was replaced by a gold star. This allowed members of the community to know the price that the family had paid in the cause of freedom. www.redstonemwr.com
“Thanks, We Appreciate You.”
At Woody Anderson Ford we don’t celebrate Veteran’s Day once a year. We don’t trot out the banners and flags just to sell you a car. With us it goes much deeper. With us it’s an ongoing commitment and pledge: Your experience with us will be a reflection of our gratitude… Every Day Please allow us the opportunity to earn your business for all the right reasons. Thank you.
