Advances in medical technology have improved the quality of life for our canine companions, now it is up to us to take that a step farther by giving our dog what will make him a naturally healthy dog. If you really love your dog, you'll want to learn everything you can about how to help your best friend to live a long naturally healthy life. There are actually six things you can look at to make sure that your dog is healthy. The first one is his eyes. Make sure they're clear and bright and don't have any excess discharge. Another thing is your dog's ears, look in the ears and make sure there's no discharge there and make sure his ears perk up when you call him. You can look at his teeth and make sure there's nothing stuck there or he doesn't have excess tartar buildup. Sometimes that will cause a dog to lose his appetite. Look at his bones and make sure he's moving well, if he's limping or seems to be favoring one side of his body, you can tell if he's in pain anywhere. Look at his skin and make sure it's not overly flaky. Look at his fur and make sure it's bright and shiny and not shedding too much. Perform these exercises as often as possible, but at least once weekly. What you would do on a daily basis would be assess their food intake and see if they're not losing their appetite or maybe eating more than usual, that would kind of throw them off a little bit. Give your dog a massage daily. Just kind of rub your hands up and down his back, on his legs, and make sure he doesn't limp when you touch a certain place or if there's no lumps or bumps anywhere. Another thing is to groom your dog as often as possible. By grooming I don't mean you have to take him all the way into the bathtub, just get out the brush and the comb. They usually enjoy it,l and if you talk to them in a soothing voice, it usually helps them to relax and lets you do what you need to do. Another thing is to bond with your dog and assess his mood. You can always tell by looking at him if he's in a good mood he'll be wagging his tail. If he's kind of depressed or not feeling well he'll just look at you and have that look of "I don't want to get up." So you can tell by those things. Grooming and the bathing are very important because that's how you keep in touch with your dog's body and make sure that physically, he's fine. Maybe the most important thing is to seek professional advice and care when it's necessary if you are unsure of the signs your dog is showing. By knowing your dog and knowing the changes of moods or the change in his body anywhere you can tell if you need to seek the help of a veterinarian.
