CONTENT TOKYO 2016 was a great success! From June 29 to July 1, 2016, CONTENT TOKYO 2016 http://www.content-tokyo.jp/en/ was held at Tokyo Big Sight, Japan, attracting 1,371 exhibitors from 19 countries and regions, 40,660 visitors, 8,733 conference attendees and 344 press visitors. Overall, the scale of the show has expanded and the number of visitors was up by 33% from the previous show. CONTENT TOKYO is a group of six exhibitions, specialising in the areas of entertainment content creation, distribution, licensing, technology, service and marketing. As the world of content is changing, and content such as TV/films, games, books, music, apps, web and mobile becomes borderless, this one-of-a-kind trade show provides an exciting platform where various players in the content industry can explore new business with one another. Throughout the show, participants held business meetings, networked with one another, and created a very lively, busy atmosphere at the site.

CONTENT TOKYO 2016 consists of six different fairs From Content Creation, Licensing, Technology, IT to Marketing, all functional areas of the entertainment content business are covered by six powerful exhibitions.
Production Companies Expo is Japan's leading exhibition for production companies of all genres including video, animation, game, music, book/magazine, web content, mobile content, apps, etc. The show has established itself as the ideal venue for production companies from around the world to gain production orders, sell content, and find co-producing partners and investors. “We have met quite a few visitors such as TV broadcasters, software developers, advertising companies and so on. I think we could have some deals after the show. We are looking to expand into the Japanese market, so Production Companies Expo is the ideal place for us.” - Audio Network (United Kingdom) Creator’s Expo attracted 698 individual creators in various genres such as authors, cartoonists, illustrators, photographers, game developers, etc. The exhibition is the perfect place to find creative skills, content and co-producing partners.

Content Solutions Expo is a cross-border showcase for solutions in content creation, management, distribution and interaction. Its wide range of exhibits attracted numerous professionals from every sector of the entertainment and media industry in Japan and other Asian countries. “We have achieved excellent results by exhibiting at Content Solutions Expo. TV production companies from all over Japan came to our booth, leading to 20 or so new projects.” - SkillUp Video Technologies Corporation (Japan) Advanced Content Technology Expo is Japan’s leading exhibition for the latest, most innovative and quality solutions for entertainment experiences and interactive technologies. Various companies ranging from major companies to unique smaller ones gathered to showcase their latest technologies. Sony Corporation introduced the latest projector for home, shop and event use. Panasonic Corporation showcased a balloon-drone prototype which combines a drone with a large balloon. Along with the breakthrough year for VR in Japan, various types of VR technologies were exhibited and drew enormous attention from a wide range of visitors. The show provided an ideal platform for exhibitors to seek new business and network with not only professionals from the entertainment industry but also various visitors such as advertising agencies and retailers.
One of the highlights this year was a special exhibit area “AI World”, gathering together various companies providing AI technologies/services related to content production, data analysis/ prediction, and companies providing hardware/software for AI technologies. This special area attracted much attention from visitors as well as the press, and was packed with enthusiastic professionals discussing the possibility of installing AI technologies/services and negotiating potential business. In view of the positive responses this year, Show Management has decided to launch an exhibition called “AI EXPO - Artificial Intelligence Exhibition & Conference” next year concurrently held with CONTENT TOKYO 2017 aiming at providing not only the content industry but also a wide variety of industries with an opportunity to utilise AI technologies/services.

LICENSING JAPAN is Japan’s largest trade show for the character & brand licensing business. The show welcomed a record number of 229 exhibitors and the scale expanded by 50% from the previous edition. The key feature of this year was the huge range of properties. In addition to major Japanese characters such as GODZILLA, DETECTIVE CONAN, Rilakkuma, HANAKAPPA, Kanahei’s Small Animals, MONCHHICHI, and Peko, the show also exhibited popular characters with global appeal such as THE POWERPUFF GIRLS, the Smurfs, Where’s Wally?, The Snowman, GHOSTBUSTERS, and RODY. Among the numerous brands that also were presented were NISSAN, Japan Airlines, ROVER, HERSHEY’s, Laura Ashley, AUTOMOBILI LAMBORGHINI, and JEEP. With Japan being the world’s second-largest market for the licensing business, LICENSING JAPAN provided the perfect venue to seek characters and brands from across Japan, Asia and the world. Content Marketing Expo is Japan’s leading exhibition gathering various solutions for content marketing such as graphics, webpages, podcasts and videos. The show effectively attracted visitors, and exhibitors and professionals held lively business discussions throughout the show.
Industry front-runners spoke at the Conference
As a rare opportunity to learn the latest technology and know-how, 24 sessions were held and 8,733 attendees participated in the Conference in total. Industry leaders including Ms. Josephine Choy from Netflix, Ms. Sandra Karpman, a camera operator of PIXAR, Mr. Katsuro Onoue, the film director of “Attack on Titan”, just to name a few, revealed their secrets about making attractive content.

Next Year’s CONTENT TOKYO
CONTENT TOKYO 2017 will return even more powerfully next June with seven different fairs. Production Companies Expo will be divided into two specialised shows, Video & CG Production Expo and Graphic Design Expo, to provide participants with more effective business opportunities, and Content Solutions Expo will be renamed Content Distribution & Management Expo.
