Comments from TIBF2012 Visitors
We were very pleased to be a part of TIBF2012. We had 65 meetings during the show. The meetings were of high quality, with discussions on licensing our content to book publishers and digital publishers, and about distributing our English language books and co-editions. Contacts came of course from Japan, but also from other Asian countries including China, South Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, and Taiwan. The first sales have already been made. It seems that taking part in the Tokyo Int'l Book Fair has become an essential tool for our international marketing and sales strategy. So, we plan to do even better next year, improving our list, our visibility, and the number of meetings.
We exhibited at TIBF to sell publication rights. We had 47 business meetings mainly with Japanese publishers and 29 of them were very intensive talks. We are also extremely satisfied that 25/29 of them were new clients to our company, and that was the biggest achievement for us. We are currently negotiating about 50 titles, mainly children's books and art books. TIBF is the best trade show for finding new clients; therefore, we have already decided to exhibit at next year’s show.
I visited TIBF to buy publication rights from overseas exhibitors. We conducted 5 business meetings during the show and are currently negotiating with 2 companies. If the talks are successful, we will be able to publish books online with a client this fall and also start to make a plan to publish a travel book with another client. We would like to come back to the show to have business meetings especially with Asian publishers. Sales Manager

Three of us visited the show to buy publication rights for early to late elementary grades. We made some visits to overseas exhibitors and obtained samples. We are currently considering 3 titles for publication. Show Management was very helpful with finding publication rights that suit our company's tastes during the show.
We had about 40 business meetings during the show and, to date, have negotiated 30 titles mainly with Japanese publishers. 6 titles have already been sold to a Japanese publisher who publishes bilingual books. It was such a great opportunity to meet Japanese publishers and make connections with them. We are very satisfied with the results; therefore, we have decided to exhibit at the show next year.
We exhibited at TIBF to find partners as well as to promote our product, an English edition of personalised DVD, which is very popular in more than 10 countries around the world. During the show, we received inquiries from leading bookstores, language schools, and companies that sell language textbooks including those Korea and Taiwan. We have studied marketing in Japan through the show in a way that cannot be achieved at the U.S.
I came to find overseas educational books and children's books. Because Japan has fewer mystery novels for children, I went through mystery novels and educational books during the show. I was inspired by the passionate projects and editorial policies of these overseas publishers. TIBF was a very productive show for finding books that cannot be found in Japan.

The TIBF gave us valuable insights into the Japanese market, and our meetings provided us with inside information that would have been difficult to come by otherwise. By the end of the event we were able to gather information from a wide variety of publishers, licensing offices, distributors, agents, printers, and illustrators. We were more than satisfied with the number of attendees and especially by the number of people among the general public. There were ample opportunities to meet potential business partners and display our wide variety of products. We also had opportunities on the spot to provide a large volume of sample material to the general public and increase our brand awareness in Japan. We were very satisfied with our time at TIBF.
With the help of Show Management and a rights agent, I visited 7 publishers and had business meetings with them. I found 11 picture book titles to consider for publication. TIBF, I believe, is a very valuable place to have face-to-face business meetings with international publishers without having to travel abroad.

It was my first visit to TIBF and I looked for new ideas and partners for DIY books for children. I visited 30 publishers during the show and collected contact information and ideas. I will come back to the show next year.
I visited the show to find publication rights for children's books and comics. We had about 10 business meetings during the show and bought publication rights from big Japanese publishing companies. We found the show to be very effective and were satisfied with the results.

We visited the show in search of publication rights for children's books. We had about 20 meetings at the show and are now negotiating 4 titles which are illustrated and children's books. We are very satisfied with the good results.
We came to TIBF searching for good children books. This year we made appointments with clients before the show and had meetings with 8 Japanese publishers at TIBF. We negotiated about 100 titles. We will visit TIBF again next year.

The Solemn Declaration of No Inflated Numbers We consistently count visitor registration numbers clearly and stringently and, without deception, continue to release the real numbers. Fundamental Philosophy of the Totalled Visitor Numbers 1. The number of visitors will be stated honestly and will not be inflated. This is our duty to exhibitors. 2. The inflation of visitor numbers is a misrepresentation of the contents of the exhibition and fraudulent to the exhibitors. 3. The number of visitors and also the counting method will be stringently announced in writing shortly after the exhibition.
3
Three Major Principles of the Counting Method 1. Only those who visit the exhibition and complete registration on-site are counted. 2. Once registered, a visitor is counted only once, no matter how many times and days they enter the exhibition. 3. Counting the visitors each time they pass through the entrance is regarded as an actual inflation of the figures, therefore, this counting method is prohibited.
