Specially guarded nature sites The district territory contains: - 21 government nature reserves (42,3% by area of all Russian nature reserves) - 6 national parks (35,9% by area of all Russian national parks). Hunting grounds The area of the districts hunting grounds - 30,7% of total hunting grounds area in Russia.
The leading sector of the SFD economy is – INDUSTRY Gross regional product – 715,2 billion rubles (or 11,4% of Russia’s GDP). GRP per capita – 34,5 thousand rubles (Russia’s average – 43,3 thousand rubles).
Industry The districts share of Russia’s total industrial output is approximately 12%
Leading industry sectors: - non-ferrous metals; - energy; - forest and timber; - ferrous metals; - chemical and petrochemical; - food and flour milling; - fuel; - building materials; - mechanical engineering and metalwork; - light industry.
Agriculture The districts share of Russia’s total agricultural output is approximately 16%. Most important areas of agriculture: livestock raising, grain production, vegetable growing.
International trade turnover in 2006 (according to customs statistics) – 36984,5 million US dollars (export – 31949 million dollars; import – 5035,5 million dollars). The districts territory has representative offices of 7 foreign states: Federal Republic of Germany (Novosibirsk – Consulate-general of Germany); Mongolia (Irkutsk, Kyzyl (Tuva Republic), Ulan-Ude (Republic of Buryatia) – Consulate-general of Mongolia); Poland (Irkutsk – Consulate-general of Poland); Israel (Novosibirsk – Israeli cultural – information center); Italy (Novosibirsk – Italian embassy department for trade development); Republic of Belarus (Novosibirsk – embassy of the Republic of Belarus); Bulgaria (Novosibirsk – Consulategeneral of Bulgaria).
Siberian federal district – Russia’s key transport link Siberia’s unique geopolitical location (together with the Far East) acting as a bridge between Europe and Asia. It is through the SFD that Russia’s main transit routes pass (cargo and passenger transport) from the European part of the country to the Asian. The Siberian Federal Districts share in aggregate distance: - railways of Russia – 17,5% (2nd place); - automobile roads of Russia (for public and official use) – 16,8% (3rd place); - internal sailing routes of Russia – 29,7% (1st place).
Area of Novosibirsk - 506,67 km²
The regions natural resource base is represented by 523 mineral deposit sites. The total area covered by forest in Novosibirsk oblast is more than 4440 thousand hectares. Farmland – 7779 thousand hectares.
Novosibirsk – third largest city in Russia by population size (1 500 000 people), administrative center of Novosibirsk oblast and Siberian Federal District; scientific, cultural, industrial, transport, trade and business hub of Siberia. Gross regional product of the Novosibirsk region - 461 billion rubles: industrial output accounts for 23%, trade — 19,6%, transport and communications — 14,5%, agriculture — 6,7%, construction — more than 5%. The sphere of public services exceeded 30% of GRP.

The Trans-Siberian railway passes through Novosibirsk. The volume of cargo transferred via the railway annually reaches approximately 10 million tonnes. Novosibirsk is a large transport hub of Russia with a network of roads belonging to Novosibirsk oblast exceeding 11 thousand km. The Tolmachevo International Airport is connected by air routes to 80 Russian and International cities and services 32 airlines and more than 2 000 000 passengers annually
Currently Novosibirsk Expo Centre – is the largest regional exhibition venue – from the Urals to the Far East. The resources of the new venue make it possible to organize exhibitions and conferences to international standards making use of 40 000 sq. meters of space and a developed infrastructure. The NEC is located within 25 minutes of the town center and within 5 minutes from the Tolmachevo Airport.
