As the motto of New York City, this concept is the inspiration of NEXT Beauty and Cosmetics, a new beauty start-up that prioritizes positive change. Uplifting our employees through the design of our space is the main goal of NEXT, and is done through light colors, natural materials, and vibrant life around every corner. Beuaty is art, nature, culture, faces, bodies, and souls. Through strong core values of sustainabiliity, inclusivity , and transparency throughout both our office design and our products, NEXT is moving ever upward towards a new future for the beauty industry, and for the world.

When designing NEXT, we began with establishing connections and fluidity between spaces. Our main priority was creating seperation between the areas that highlighted either communication, motion, or growth for our employees, while also ensuring that all spaces in the office represented our company values in some way.

The orchid is a universal symbol of beauty. One of our key goals is to highlight the limitless forms of true beauty.
Honesty
The daffodil symbolizes many different values of the company, such as honesty, change, and new beginnings.

The mugunghwa holds a large importance in Korean culture, and represents our celebration of the melting pot that is New York City.

EVIDENCE-BASED RESEARCH
Each space at NEXT was specifically designed with the intention to promote employee empowerment. Empowerment is the motivational concept of self-efficacy, and empowered workers lead to overall higher job-satisfaction, higher employee retention rates, and contributes to creating the positive and uplifting atmoshphere at NEXT. Empowering employees through design was done through addressing the four dimensions of empowerment.

A certain dish or ingredient can comfort thousands of people in their most vulnerable state. For decades, there has been research proving the correlation between foodways and identity , making culinary traditions one of the most powerful tools for immigrant communities. A huge hurdle many immigrants are faced with in a new country is the struggle of dueling identies , and the merger of tradtions and values. Replicating culinary traditions can be extremely challenging in a country with its own views on “ethnic cuisines”. Kaleid Kitchen will provide a space that encourages the sharing of culinary traditions and embraces the multi-cultural identites of millions of U.S. immigrants

IDENTITY
Provide a space where immigrants have a sense of control over their identity and can comfortably merge their culture with other communities
Many immigrants struggle with dueling identities after migrating to the U.S. and feel they do not “belong” in either place

Provide a multi-functional space that allows immigrants to access resources for replicating their cultural foodways
Immigrant communities face challenges replicating their foodways in their host countries. Main challenges include acquiring ingredients, space, and time for replicating home dishes
COMMUNITY
Provide a space that encourages family-oriented meals and experiences and fosters a sense of community
Sharing food and experiences is a way to share cultural values in many immigrant communities and strengthens their social identity

PROJECT Victorian Home Renovation
IIDA WI Student Design Competition - Residential Award of Excellence - 2021
The goal of this project was to transform an existing space into a new, updated living area for the client while also maintaining the character of the historic home’s features. Our client, a retired physical therapist, has previously converted her Victorian home into a practicing work space, and now has a vision of beginning a new business from her home of renting AirBnb units . The interior spaces of the home feature sellable details like original crown moldings, a vintage fireplace , and wrap around porch , all which will add to the allure for guests to her rental units. The combination of these elements with a modern, unique update to the home’s entire interior will not only smoothly transition her new business, but also set up the client with private, personable spaces catered directly to her needs and tastes.
