Most JCs/ CI offer the GCE A-level curriculum, which provides students with learning opportunities in three areas: life skills, knowledge skills and subject disciplines. There is flexibility and diversity in your choice of subject combinations with subjects offered at three levels of study – Higher 1 (H1), Higher 2 (H2) and Higher 3 (H3). Developing holistically The JC and CI education focuses on self-development, critical thinking, intellectual analysis, and communication and interpersonal skills that prepare you for higher learning at the universities and beyond. While education in the JCs and CI is academically challenging, holistic development is emphasised through various elective programmes and CCAs. Whether you like kicking a ball in a field, clearing hurdles on a track or swinging a racket in a court, sportsrelated CCAs give you a chance to play and grow together with fellow students. If putting up a play or making music is what you enjoy, there is also a whole host of clubs and societies to choose from.

Polytechnics What are the requirements? •

For GCE O-level holders, the requirements vary from course to course. Do some research on the courses you have shortlisted before applying for the course of your choice.

For the aggregate scores of the lowest ranked students who were admitted to the courses through the most recent Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) of each polytechnic, visit www.polytechnic.edu.sg/polyguide. How to enrol? •

To gain admission to a polytechnic, you can take part in the Joint Admissions Exercise (JAE) conducted annually after the release of the GCE O-level examination results.

Visit the MOE’s JAE website at www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/jae for more information. • Or, you can take part in the Joint Polytechnic Special Admissions Exercise (JPSAE), for students with special aptitudes and talents.

Polytechnics will consider students who demonstrate a strong passion or aptitude through their participation in activities such as work attachments, sustained involvement in course-related projects, and outstanding performance in competitions like the Mathematics or Science Olympiads.

Private Education

20

Private Education • Offers alternative options for those seeking to further their studies or upgrade their skills Before signing up with any private school, it is important for you to find out more about the school and the courses it offers, and consider the relevance of these courses and the qualifications they confer to your career plans and further education. Do visit the website of the Council for Private Education (CPE) at www.cpe.gov.sg to check whether the private schools and courses you are considering are on the lists of registered private education institutions and permitted courses. The CPE website also provides advice on private education (e.g. crucial factors to look out for in selecting private schools and courses, and common misconceptions about private education) to help prospective students make more informed decisions. For further advice, you can contact or visit the CPE Student Services Centre (SSC). The SSC provides education counselling services to students on private education options and school registration procedures. You can visit www.cpe.gov.sg/for-students/cpe-student-services-centre for details.
