the team Hurriyah is the zine produced by youth in Al Zaatari refugee camp, Jordan. This project is a partnership with Studio Syria, Qatar Foundation International and Three Chairs for Refugees and part of the service-learning initiative Refugee Story Circle. Produced and edited by Elizabeth Norville, Jean Bradbury, Jennifer Geist, Priscila Bellini, and Wai Sze Chum.

Refugee Story Circle

Hurriyah is a zine intended as a platform for dialogue between Syrian refugees at Al-Zaatari camp and youth from around the world. The idea is that refugee youth can make their voices heard through storytelling of their personal experience, while youth from around the world can respond with letters of encouragement. Hurriyah debuted its first issue (this very zine before your eyes) at the National Service-Learning Conference in Washington DC, in April 2015, with the support of Qatar Foundation International (QFI). At the conference, the Refugee Story Circle project had the honor of leading an educational workshop to raise awareness about the Syrian crisis and to present artworks created by refugees at Al-Zaatari (thanks to Studio Syria). This attracted enthusiastic responses from the audience. Together with artworks from Al-Zaatari and audience responses was born the next issue of Hurriyah.
