CRANEO Hotel & Spa

Concept Craneo takes its concept from a popular tradition in the Spanish Culture, DĂa de los Muertos, the day of the dead. It is a celebration of life. Participants wear clothes of black and white and they adorn themselves with color. The boutique hotel, located in the Gas Lamp district of San Diego, celebrates the life of its guests. The celebration of life can be felt by the vibrant colors and luxe materials. Just as day of the dead celebrates loved ones finding their peace in paradise, Craneo gives its guests a piece of paradise. Their every need will be catered to and the guest experience is top priority. It is a tribute to culture. In a world, seemingly so black and white, Craneo will add some color to your life.

The lobby restaurant and bar derive their names from Spanish words for parts of the skull. CHA CHARA named for the nasal bones, and Pomulo (the lobby’s bar) named after the cheekbones. Traditional design elements such as stucco columns, spanish tile accents, and intricate wallcoverings, transport guests to the extravagant side of of the culture.

THE LION’S HEAD

Concept On the Croatian coast in a medieval town called Dubrovnik, the sea carves new patterns into ancient rock. Capite Leonis –The Lion’s Head celebrates the history and medieval stone that built Dubrovnik, nodding to King Richard the Lionhearted and the banner of the Croatian region of Dalmatia for its name—but embraces the youthful culture that proved itself indestructible after so many years of war and oppression. When a patron enters The Lion’s Head, he will gain a sense of Croatia in its wild, unbreakable strength.

Design Notes Culture - Fuse Croatian culture into the restaurant - Create a coffee bar and informal seating area to entice patrons throughout the day

Juxtaposition - Merge the ancient ruins with the avant-garde - Marble floor has a mirrored contrast in the sleek furnishing and iron partitions - Sense of innovation and luxury

Bronze Hospitality Design

Privacy - Provide acoustic and visual privacy - Custom 8’ glass and iron partitions allow light to pass through into the interior spaces while reducing sound reverb. Group Project: Fall 2016. Duration: 5 Weeks. Scope of Work: 7,000 SF. Software Used: AutoCAD, Revit, Adobe Suite. Responsibilities: Programming, Space Planning, Revit Modeling, FF&E Selection.

Concept Ancient myths and legends speak of mermaids and their trinkets, pirates and their treasure, and the mystical lure of sirens to the unfortunate sailors that sailed the high seas. The sirens of Greek Mythology loved their accessories and were the most fashionable creatures of the ocean. Sailors scoured the ocean longing to uncover the mystery of the ocean and any treasure that lay beneath the water. People love to accessorize in one form or another. Stores often flaunt their beautiful items in the store windows to taunt us as we pass by. Eventually, we give in to the beauty and sail in for a closer look. Accessories are our mythical sirens, and we are the sailors.

Design Notes Mystery - Lure customers in through unique branding - Create interior spaces that continuously call customers to the merchandise

Entrancing - Design will pull customers in and entice customers to stay to shop - Curvilinear lines will engage customers - Create a mesmerizing experience

Surge - Create an energy that carries customers through the space - The energy must be strong enough to guide them, yet gentle enough to let them stop and browse through the merchandise

Concept Beneath the surface of any mechanical system, industrial gears turn as their grooves interconnect and pull each other forward. The whole system cannot function in the absence of even one gear. OFS operates in a very similar way. Each person is a unique part of the team-the gears that deem the machine operable. The roles may vary, but one cannot exist without the other. When their roles are separated like the parts of a machine, it’s hard to make sense of all the pieces. However, when they come together to form the OFS team, they are sure to create outstanding results for their clients.

Concept Pods are a prevalent theme throughout Armstrong Middle School. Clusters of learning environments provide a sense of community and boost the moral of the students. The students are put into 1 of 3 different “clusters and this becomes their learning atmosphere for the school year. The first level is grouped into larger clusters, as this will be the area the students come together with different grades as well as people from the Starkville community. The students' flame for learning will be ignited in their pod and it will be fueled by the teachers and the community.

Design Notes Community - Teaching classrooms are an important addition to the school - Create environments to connect the community to the school

Interdisciplinary Competition

Lighting - Enlarge exterior windows - Add skylights to bring natural light into the interior of the building - Implement LED and smart lighting systems to provide high quality lighting

Circulation - Create a circulation pattern that allows pods to circulate smoothly - Give each pod access to a restroom and staircase
