How Does Stem Cell Therapy Help the Body? Thanks to stem cell technology, a new era of medicine has been brought to existence. Through stem cell treatments, serious health issues such as severe diseases and aging may now be addressed via nonartificial means – in what most people refer to as "healing from within". But exactly how does stem cell therapy help the body? Stem cells are special cells produced by the body that have the ability to develop into different specific cell types. These cells are, in fact, the basis of every cell, tissue, and organ in the body. Essentially, stem cells may be thought of as cell templates, waiting to be tweaked into specialized cells. Stem cells may be used to repair and rejuvenate the body because they have the ability to heal damaged tissues and can replace cells that are lacking. More significantly, these so-called 'blank' cells are able to reproduce or renew themselves through cell division. There are three types of stem cells. The first type consists of embryonic stem cells which are taken from fertilized eggs. The second type consists of adult stem cells produced from tissues within the body that consistently produce cell replacements in response to normal use or injury. The third type consists of umbilical stem cells harvested from the umbilical cords of newborn babies. Stem cell treatments are commonly used to remedy blood-related diseases and leukemia through bone marrow transplants. Of late, stem cells have also been used for anti aging treatments. Because stem cells have the ability to renew and repair worn out cells and tissues, stem cell treatments effectively battle the effects of aging that naturally occur with age. As such, stem cells may be expected to successfully replenish dead cells, resulting in smoother and younger-looking skin. Stem cells have also been known to counter baldness by stimulating hair growth from within. Another positive effect attributed to anti-aging treatments using stem cells is the improvement of brain activity. Stem cells are also currently used in the aesthetic procedure of breast augmentation. The main advantage of this particular cosmetic practice is that while it is effective, it is non-intrusive. Although some people have a different and more skeptic view of stem cell treatments, scientists and experts are confident that the future holds a lot of promise for stem cell technology. The main reason for this is that the maximum potential for this particular method is yet to be realized.
