Year 3 Adventure Island Topic Week One (Week beginning 16/4/12) We will launch our new topic this week by looking at a number of classic adventure stories and thinking about our own survival skills we will need for an island adventure. We will also gather a crew ready to set sail and to explore the new island! On the Tuesday we will have a visit from a theatre group in the afternoon and on Friday it will be a teacher training day. Week Two (Week beginning 23/4/12) We will begin our adventure to the island this week, following maps and directions to find our way. We will also start to make our own adventure island story by writing about this journey. In order to help our adventure stories develop further, we will be thinking about atmosphere and suspense. We will also be designing and making our own traps to catch bugs with. Week Three (Week beginning 30/4/12) As the next part of our adventures we will explore the island further. We will be focusing on the life that may live on it and especially thinking about the kinds of insects that we could find, as well as making some new discoveries! Week Four (Week beginning 7/5/12) This week will begin with a bank holiday day on the Monday! We will then be working hard to continue and finish our adventure stories and will look further at the insect life on the island. Week Five (Week beginning 14/5/12) Following our adventure stories we will look at making reports about our islands and what we have learnt. On the afternoon of the Tuesday we will have a session with Explore Learning. Week Six (Week beginning 21/5/12) We shall be continuing our reports on what we discovered. We are also lucky enough to be having a second visit from a theatre group on the Friday of this week. Week Seven (Week beginning 28/5/12) This will be the final week before the half term and the final week of our topic. In celebration of the upcoming Queen’s Jubilee, on the last day of term we will be having a day of celebration.
