Interview Ganjaman
Ganjaman, you are a fixture at the Reggae Jam. May we call you Mr. Reggae Jam? That sounds nice but Mr. Reggae Jam is definitely Sheriff, the promoter. Of course, I feel especially associated with this festival. But I am more the deputy. For how long has your close relationship with Reggae Jam been running? This is the eighth year for me being the host of the festival and the eleventh year I perform there. It all started long ago with a show case with Uwe Banton, Conscious Fiyah (Headcornerstone), Dr. Ring-Ding and me, backed by House of Riddim. And how did you become the host? I think I have had a special relationship with Sheriff right from the start. Everyone who knows Sheriff knows that he is a guy full of ambition and he is so deep in love with what he is doing. That is why he was able to establish such a nice „independent“ festival. But to be honest: I cannot remember how it actually started. It takes someone who can
5
stay away from the partying to be fit and sober from beginning to end. That is quite hard at a festival … But I do not mind. So that might be one reason. And hopefully I have some more skills that qualify me for this job, too. You do not only host the Reggae Jam but also the Green Stage at the SummerJam. Are there big differences for you between these two festivals? Funnily I started hosting at the SummerJam in the same year I started at the Reggae Jam. And yes, there are big differences. Summerjam has a longer tradition, it has been running for 28 years now. And the whole structure, the organization, the place, the venue are different. Bersenbrück is a small place with a limited infrastructure and limited capacities for holding people. So of course, there is also a limited space backstage. So all the artists are really close and not separated from each other. Therefore they chill with all the other artists and with all the people who are involved in the production process. It is like a meet & greet backstage. As the artists have access for all th-

ree days you see them all the time. That creates a kind of family vibe. That is not possible at the SummerJam because of the sheer size of the festival. Naturally you have to have other regulations and restrictions there. But that is also okay, the circumstances are just different. For visitors a big difference might be that they have to decide which artist they want to see as the concerts run simultaneously whereas at Reggae Jam they run consecutively. How do you prepare prior to the festivals? I collect information like recent album releases, tour dates, I check the music and so forth. But sometimes artists arrive late or there have been delays so I have to keep it short or have to make up for lost time. So instead of the planned long and thorough speech I can only run on stage and shout: „Hello Bersenbrück, are you alive? Push up unno hands and welcome on stage: The great honourable...!“ So I try to prepare as much as possible but sometimes it is in vain.
Is there a distinct „Reggae Jam vibe“ in your perception? Yes, because it is a very small and intimate place. And Sheriff who runs the festival is different from any other promoter. The type of artists he books is different from any other festival. He tries to bring artists who have not been in Germany very often or artists who have not performed here for a long time, especially foundation artists from the rub-a-dub era and the Deejay style era. He brings artists you do not see anywhere else. And also the whole spirit is very special. Sheriff is always around, all the helpers are involved and not separated or hiding in their offices. It is a very open atmosphere, a family vibe, you feel a lot of passion. You also see a lot of parents with their children. That is also different compared to other festivals. And because of the line up you have more roots and foundation lovers and more people who feel deeply connected to the spiritual aspects of the music.
8 Interview Ganjaman
Additionally to the „Reggae Jam vibe“ there is also a „Bersenbrück effect“. What is that? Normally you have local or not so established acts as opener. So the venue fills very slowly until the big acts perform later. The Reggae Jam broke that rule by bringing quite well known acts or even top acts on stage early in the day. Like Anthony B a few years ago. Other promoters saw that and copied it. So now you have popular acts even at the early slots everywhere. That is the „Bersenbrück effect“. You see all artists preparing for their perfor mance. What do they do minutes before they enter the stage? That is absolutely different. You have some who are quiet and focusing or preparing themselves like warming up their voices. Others are in a deep meditation for a few minutes. Some even iron their shirts to look proper on stage. Then you have some who seem like they are not involved in anything that is going on there. Some make jokes and talk to everybody. That
is quite common at Reggae Jam because you cannot hide or run from the people who are chilling backstage. But that is no problem at all because most artists know each other and are friends with the Reggae Jam crew. So they have a chat. What I am really curious about is what Lee Perry will do. That might be special. You do „not only“ perform and host but also deliver breakfast to the massive. What is the story behind this tradition? Five years ago I opened the festival with the first slot on a Saturday. Normally not a lot of people show up so early. Especially on that very day because David Rodigan had burned down the dancehall until 9 o‘clock in the morning. So everybody was supposed to be still sleeping. But unexpectedly and to my big delight the crowd was big. So I told Sheriff if I got this slot again I would prepare breakfast for all the early birds. So the promise was made and I had to fulfill it the next year. Luckily many friends of mine contributed by

donating organic sprouts, vegan cream and coffee. I added the bread. The year after I got the same slot again. So there was a breakfast again. Promised is promised. That time the menu consisted of humus sandwiches. That ran for two years and then I served cake. And what do we get this year? I thought of a vegan goulash soup but I could not get such a big soup bomb so far. So I do not know as yet. But hopefully no one will have to starve. I‘ll do my best! In your eleven years at the Reggae Jam you must have collected a bunch of anecdotes. Please share one. Some years ago House of Riddim had to back three artists in a row without any break. That is a long time. Sam Gilly, the drummer, desperately needed a toilet but he could not leave his instrument, of course. So he called me on stage and handed me the sticks to replace him for a minute. I did my very best. But when Sam came back and I was about to go off stage Manfred, the bass player, stopped me because he
9
was in the same situation as Sam before. So he handed me the bass but I did not understand what he told me about the key of the song because it was too loud. Before I could ask again he was gone. Manfred is much bigger than me so the belt for the bass was way too loose for me. So I stood there, the bass hanging down to my knees like in Heavy Metal and I had no clue how to play because I did not know the key. I improvised, played some weird stuff and hoped that nobody would notice. An advantage you have as a host is that you will and must not miss a single performance. But to which concert are you looking forward the most? I am definitely looking forward to John Holt and I cannot wait to see Ras Shiloh because I have never seen him live so far. I am also really excited to see Jah9. And the brilliant roots music of Martin Zobel & The Soulrise. But honestly: There is not a single artist on the line up that I would want to miss. Ganjaman

CHRONIXX
In school they used to call me by the nickname... Chronic. Today I‘m known by my stage name Chronixx, which I chose because... it‘s derivative of my father‘s name and it feels natural! Minutes before I go on stage, I... pray and do a handstand to get some extra blood and oxygen in my brain! Makes me feel high! And right after my performance, I... give Jah thanks for the historic delivery of a great message and do a likkle reflection. I‘d never miss a show by... the original Black Uhuru and Burning Spear. If I had my own festival, the following five artists would headline it: Burning Spear, Damian Marley , Kelissa, Raging Fyah and Pentateuch. When I was a child, my greatest hero was... Walker Texas Ranger! If I could perform anywhere in the world, I would love to go to... Brazil. If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... an artist, as an artistic director for artistes. On my perfect day... I cook, eat and write music.
The first stage show I attended was... Genesis Gospel Fest! The first record I bought was... Pentateuch – The Genesis. For breakfast this morning I had... steam cabbage, dumpling, potato, and yam. The next hype will be… healthy living.

EXCO LEVI
In school they used to call me by the nickname... Escobar, because I always loved to play football. Today I‘m known by my stage name Exco Levi, which I chose because... when I started singing in school, they used to still call me Escobar, after considering music as a profession,I just added Levi to Exco, which means high priest. Minutes before I go on stage, I... always repeat: let the words of my mouth meditation my heart be accepted in Jah sight, selah. And right after my performance, I will... always thank God for all is blessing and opportunity to sing for people. Many musician live and died and never get this opportunity. My favorite song, that I‘d never sing publicly is... Baltimore - The Tumbling, Johnny Be Good - Peter Tosh, I‘ll be there - Michael Jackson. If I had my own festival, the following five artists would headline it: Burning Spear, Jimmy Cliff, Bruno Mars, Adele, India Arie. If I could perform anywhere in the world, I would love to go to... Madison Square Garden... New York city soul out event, haha. If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... a professional soccer player,or a soldier.
On my perfect day... I rise and am still breathing. Without life nothing matters. The first record I bought was... my own record. I was so excited to see myself on a record. I have it at home. For breakfast this morning I had... whole wheat dumpling, yam, banana, and curry chunks. The next hype will be… my album from Penthouse Records, probably an EP before... it‘s gonna be great!
Illbilly Hitec feat. LONGFINGAH

In school they used to call me by the nickname... Russe. People are straight forward where I grew up. Today I‘m known by my stage name iLLBiLLY, which I chose because... there are only two guys in the band and I´m the one who likes rock´n´roll and boots. Thomas is more into machines, so he´s HiTEC. Minutes before I go on stage, I... I like to have a shot… And right after my performance, I... have another one. I‘d never miss a show by... I always miss the artists I wanna see… I guess that´s the agony of being on tour all year. If I had my own festival, the follow ing five artists would headline it: Enio Morricone, The Sonics, Sublime, Adriano Celentano and my band of course. Great combination! When I was a child, my greatest hero was... Bud Spencer… still is! If I could perform anywhere in the world, I would love to go to... Brazil. If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... a tour manager again. Touring, seeing places and meeting people is just the greatest thing there is! On my perfect day... I play a great gig and enjoy the pleasure of a full fridge with nice drinks and food.
The first stage show I attended was... in 1995 with my metal band Ketama! What great songs we had… The first record I bought was... Dr. Alban – One Love. For breakfast this morning I had... some cake and real mate. The next hype will be… wearing white socks again.
16 IBA MAHR
In school they used to call me by the nick name... Skibba. Today I‘m know by my stage name Iba Mahr, which I chose because... close friends thought that ‚Skibba‘ wasn‘t a name quite fitting, recognizing the type of message I portray. ‚Iba‘ is an African name, meaning humble and calm, while ‚Mahr‘ is really an acronym, meaning Mario of Harar. Harar is a small province in Ethiopia. Minutes before I go on stage, I... do simple stretches, vocal warm ups, and take a sip of water or honey and garlic, if I need it. But in reality all the tedious preparations happen hours before showtime. Showtime is fun time! Ha ha LOL. And right after my performance, I... show appreciation to the band members, then off to the press for interviews, but usually if there are other performances I stay and watch. If I had my own festival, the following five artists would headline it: Lauryn Hill, Burning Spear, Max Romeo, Capleton, and Sizzla. When I was a child, my greatest hero was... my grandpa Vincent Greaves aka Shutty (RIP). If I could perform anywhere in the world, I would love to go to.... Africa, Brazil, Australia, and Japan. If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... a technician, definitely behind the computer, whether it be programming, networking, design and repair or graphics. Some kind of computer techy... LOL.
On my perfect day... I spend time with the people closest to me with good food, good music, having a laugh. A game of football will either start or end the day. The first stage show I attended was... an event called ‚Every Wednesday‘ staged in Cheesefeild District Linstead. The first record I bought was... The Bug Riddim produced by Dave Kelly featuring the hottest names in dancehall at the time. For breakfast this morning I had... tofu sandwich with ripe plantains and peanut porridge. The next hype will be... Reggae Jam Festival and Reggae Jam riddim.

JAH9
In school they used to call me by the nickname... JanJan or Jah9 Today I‘m known by my stage name Jah9, which I chose because... I’ve had it for a long time and found great significance and meaning in “Jah” and the number 9. Minutes before I go on stage, I... stretch and meditate. And right after my performance, I... give thanks. I‘d never miss a show by... Tracy Chapman! If I had my own festival, the following five artists would headline it: Burning Spear, Winston McAnuff, Midnite, Tracy Chapman, Emilie Sadie. When I was a child, my greatest hero was... my dad. If I could perform anywhere in the world, I would love to go to... Ethiopia. If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... forensic psychologist. On my perfect day... I’m sunbathing on a beach in Portland with a few of my favorite things ;)
The first stage show I attended was... a gospel concert with Papa San as the headliner. For breakfast this morning I had... a chilled julie mango! The next hype will be… Hype?!? Lol – but I have a great song I did on an original Channel One riddim created in 1982. Its called “Steamers a Bubble”, go check it!
JAHCOUSTIX
21
In school they used to call me by the nickname... Niki. Today I‘m known by my stage name Jahcoustix, which I chose because... it reflects the vibe of my music in one word. Minutes before I go on stage, I focus. And right after my performance... I relax, calm down and smoke a nice spliff. My favorite song, that I‘d never sing publicly is... the title theme song of the TV Show „Bernd das Brot“ I‘d never miss a show by... Jahcoustix :-) If I had my own festival, the follo wing five artists would headline it... Steel Pulse, Misty in Roots, Israel Vibration, Don Carlos, Burning Spear. When I was a child, my greatest hero was... Diego Maradona. If I could perform anywhere in the world, I would love to go to... New Zealand. If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably... live abroad somewhere and work as a teacher or expatriot of an NGO. The first stage show I attended... was Michael Jackson at the Meadowlands in NY during his Bad tour in 1988. The first record I bought was Michael Jackson´s „Off the wall“
For breakfast this morning... I had Sushi, which I usually don´t eat for breakfast… it was a long night... The next hype will be... the hype that will be followed by a next hype which makes every hype a relative one and therefore quite unimportant to me. Reggae Jam to me means... being on one of the nicest Reggae Festivals I know! I shot the Sheriff... and now a lot of people don´t like me anymore LOL.
22
I‘m known by my stage name Shotta Paul, which I chose because... the youth who used to live next to my yard in Jamaica kept calling me that way. And I am known by my stage name Meska, which I chose because back then I named myself DJ Twista and found out there was already one, so I renamed myself with a fantasy name with cool letters. Minutes before I go on stage, I... Shotta Paul: think about the performance and get my drinks ready. Meska: think about my first song and check my equipment. And right after my performance, I... Shotta Paul: change my t-shirt. Meska: start party. My favourite song, that I‘d never sing publicly, is... Shotta Paul: I dont sing publicly. I‘d never miss a show by... Shotta Paul: Vybz Kartel. Meska: Tarrus Riley. If I had my own festival, the following five artists would headline it: Shotta Paul: Vybz Kartel, Miwata, Buju Banton, Ninjaman, Charly Black Meska: Busy Signal, Tarrus Riley, Romain Virgo, Randy Valentine, Miwata When I was a child, my greatest hero was... Meska: was the kid from that „Suchard Express“ TV ad who could jump over a big wall with his skateboard. I thought if I drank enough Suchard Express I could do the same lol.
JUGGLERZ
If I could perform anywhere in the world, I would love to go to... Shotta Paul: Jamaica If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... Shotta Paul: a teacher, a copywriter, or gardener. On my perfect day... Shotta Paul: I chill, do some sports, eat nice food, do something productive and have fun at night in shorts and t-shirt. Meska: was the kid from that „Suchard Express“ TV ad who could jump over a big wall with his skateboard. I thought if I drank enough Suchard Express I could do the same lol. The first stage show I attended was... Shotta Paul: Alpha Blondy in Tübingen. Meska: The Prodigy in Munich. The first record I bought was... Meska: David Hasselhoff lol. For breakfast this morning I had... Shotta Paul: cereals with apple, banana, peach, yogurt and milk, and coffee. The next hype will be... Meska: hopefully NOT Techno or Heavy Metal music. Reggae Jam to me means... a weekend full of niceness, relaxed atmosphere and real people. I shot the Sheriff... Shotta Paul: because he never answers his phone. Meska: but I care zero who shot the deputy.

24 KIMOE
In school they used to call me by the nickname... Chris. Today I‘m known by my stage name Kimoe, which I chose because... it came to my mind one night. I didn’t find the name, the name found me. I liked the phonetics and so we agreed, me and my new name, that we go this way together! Haha ;) Minutes before I go on stage, I... begin to jump and to shake my legs and start to breathe heavily until I hear my intro. At this point it’s like somebody is pushing a button, I lose all the strain and I’m ready to rock. And right after my performance, I will... fall into the arms of my queen. And then eat and drink something, because I can’t do it before the show. I’m too tense and focused before. My favorite song, that I‘d never sing publicly, is... “Still loving you” by The Scorpions! Haha … If I had my own festival, the following five artists would headline it: The Fugees reunited, Busta Rhymes, Tarrus Riley, aaand … yeah, Limp Bizkit and The Prodigy! When I was a child, my greatest hero was... In real life my dad! Rambo and Chuck Norris all have copied from him, for sure! In comics Spiderman aka Peter Parker. If I could perform anywhere in the world, I would love to go to... Kreta.
If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... Baker! But with a little shop in a side street with regular customers, people who love the shop, people who really looking forward to visit me, to get their cake or freshly baked bun. On my perfect day... I have my girl in my arms, sunshine in my face, something delicious to eat in my mouth and a mixture of music and the sound of the ocean in my ears. The first record I bought was... I don’t really remember but I think the “Dangerous” LP by Michael Jackson on tape. For breakfast this morning I had... Spaghetti! Haha … I love pasta. The next hype will be... I’m not really interested in hypes. If I could chose, we had more artists again with a foundation, an own sound, own belief. I‘m not a big fan of 80es music, but where are today‘s bands and artists like U2, Phil Collins, Bruce Springsteen, Joe Cocker and so on. Also artists that endure decades with their own sound and have something to tell, also sometimes the uncomfortable truth. Today musicians have become too much of a puppet on a media‘s string and are therefore rather short-dated. Reggae Jam to me means... the festival of hearts, it’s like a big family, such nice vibes! I shot the Sheriff, but... Only with a water gun. Big up Sheriff!!!
KIP RICH
25
In school they used to call me by the nickname... Krazy Kid Today I‘m known by my stage name Kiprich, which I chose because... it works well with my image and what I represent, keeping rich. Minutes before I go on stage, I... pray to God. And right after my performance, I will... give thanks to God and for the support from the fans. If I had my own festival, the following five artists would headline it: Bounty Killer, Jimmy Cliff, Buju Banton, Shabba Ranks, and Ninja Man When I was a child, my greatest hero was... Bob Marley. If I could perform any where in the world, I would love to go to... Dubai.
For breakfast this morning I had... ackee and saltfish with dumpling.
If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... lawyer or chartered accountant.
Reggae Jam to me means... keeping reggae music alive.
On my perfect day... I exercise before I relax in the hills.
I shot the Sheriff, but... - If I shot the Sheriff, I‘d shoot the festival, so Sheriff will get away this time ;))
The first record I bought was... Krazy Kid, a song called “Woodland”
28
Martin Zobel
In school they used to call me by the nickname... ,Moatl‘ which is a Bavarian abbreviation for Martin and that‘s also how all my friends call me until today... Today I‘m known by my stage name Martin Zobel, which I chose because... I had no choice :) Basically I never planned to be a musician. At the beginning of my musical career I was touring with a band called „Weisswurscht is“ - a folk band from Bavaria - friends of mine. They just asked me if I wanted to play some songs before they go on stage and before I knew it on all the flyers „Martin Zobel“ was announced to be the opening act for the tour - so this remained my „stage name“ to the present day. Of course if I had had the choice, I would have chosen a sophisticated stagename - like ‘Jah Nose‘ or ’Ras Berry‘. Minutes before I go on stage, I... ...listen to Soulrise playing the intro for the show and I am grateful for having found these guys and that it is our job to play music together! And right after my performance, I will... ...still be on adrenalin like everybody else in the band. This is mostly the moment where we think we totally rock - followed by the apprehension that we probably suck - balancing in the end on the conclusion that our music is pretty ok :D My favourite song, that I‘d never sing publicly, is... „Them Belly Full“ by Bob Marley & The Wailers .
I‘d never miss a show by... Groundation If I had my own festival, the following five artists would headline it: Groundation, Midnite, Israel Vibration, The Soul Syndicate, Sebastian Sturm‘s Cheer Up Trio When I was a child, my greatest hero was... David Hasselhoff starring Knightrider!
Hawaii!
If I could perform anywhe re in the world, I would love to go to...
If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... ..an artist. I mean if I wasn‘t an artist in terms of being a musician I‘d most likely work as a graphics artist. On my perfect day... I neither worry about the past nor about the future...it is only when I manage to live for the moment when I realize how great being alive really is! The first stage show I attended was... Tollwood Festival - Munich, Germany. The first record I bought was... World Power by Snap back in 1988 or so :D For breakfast this morning I had... one of my extremely famous hand brewed fair trade cappuccinos people usually travel very far for - and a pretzel. The next hype will be… Roots Reggae of course!
30 NOSLIW
In school they used to call me by the nickname... Kingman, Ken Allnight or Professor Don Bossman. Today I‘m known by my stage name Nosliw, which I chose because... I had no better idea and turned my last name backwards. Minutes before I go on stage, I... stretch, warm up my vocal cordes and panic about my career. And right after my performance, I... shower and join the festival again. My favourite song, that I‘d never sing publicly, is... ‚I believe I can fly‘. I‘d never miss a show by Prince. If I had my own festival, the fol lowing five artists would headline it: Prince, Reggie Watts, Tarrus Riley, Tenacious D, Jill Scott. When I was a child, my greatest hero was... Bill Cosby.
The first record I bought was Sign your name on 7“ by Terence Trent D‘Arby.
If I could perform anywhere in the world, I would love to go to... Gezi Park.
For breakfast this morning I had... coffee, buns and ‚Vikings‘ season 1 / episode 9.
If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... speech therapist.
The next hype will be... autotune.
On my perfect day... I do a great song.
Reggae Jam to me means easy going, good vibes, good people.
The first stage show I attended was... at a youth center named SJZ in Siegburg, in 1994 I guess.
I shot the Sheriff, but... I did not use my gun, just killing with music & lyrics.
SUGA ROY & CONRAD CRYSTAL
In school they used to call me by the nickna me... Suga Roy when I was in Kemps Hill High School Clarendon. Minutes before I go on stage, I... always pray to the Most High to deliver the message so that people can feel the message from my music. And right after my performance, I... always try to relax and meditate about my performance that I did on the stage. If I had my own festival, the following five artists would headline it: Burning Spear, Anthony B, Junior Gong, Toots And The Maytals, and Gentleman. When I was a child, my greatest hero were... Marcus Garvey and Bob Marley.
31
If I could perform anywhere in the world, I would love to go to... Africa. If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... professional soccer player. My perfect day... is my Sabbath day. The first stage show I atten ded was... Ram Jam in May Pen Clarendon. It used to keep every Christmas Eve. The first record I bought was... Proud A You - Suga Roy on the Power House label For breakfast this morning I had... vegetables & cook green banana. The next hype will be… I don‘t deal with hype. The next good thing will be working on Reggae Jam and my new album Meditation by Suga Roy & The Fireball Crew distributed by VP.
32
PETER LLOYD
In school they used to call me by the nickname... Grater Face (Raspelgesicht), because I had lots of pimples. Today I‘m known by my stage name Peter Lloyd, which I chose because... my God-mother Leonie Forbes thought it would be the most appropriate name. My family calls me Peter which means the rock because I was very strong and stubborn and Lloyd is my middle name. Minutes before I go on stage, I... do absolutely nothing. And right after my performance, I... take photos with my fans and sign autographs, while I drink litres of water. If I had my own festival, the following five artists would headline it: Beres Hammond, Bob Marley, Marcia Griffiths, Gentleman, Shabba Ranks. When I was a child, my greatest hero were... my dad and my mom. If I could perform anywhere in the world, I would love to go to... Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... an actor or a chef . On my perfect day... the weather will be perfect, I will be playing with my 7 year old daughter, no one in the world would be hungry, there will be no prejudice of any kind, there will be world peace and my dad would be alive playing with my daughter and I.
The first stage show I attended was... Reggae Sunsplash in Jamaica as a child and my dad took me. The first record I bought was Babylon By Bus - Bob Marley. For breakfast this morning I had... whole wheat veggie sandwich with veggie cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, cucumbers and water. The next hype will be... a dance move where nobody moves. This is where patrons stand and stare at each other defiantly. I shot the Sheriff, but... I made sure he paid me first
RANDY VALENTINE
33
In school they used to call me by the nickname... Professor Love. Today I‘m known by my stagename Randy Valentine, which I chose because... Randy is not even my registered name but it‘s the name my mother has called me since Day 1. I think it‘s the name she wanted to use originally, so I carry it with me always and Valentine is Professor Love reincarnated. I took Valentine‘s Day and made it a 365 days a year event.... Now you don‘t have to wait until February 14 for „Valentine“ to be a part of your daily conversation..... Minutes before I go on stage, I... Give thanks to Jah for another opportunity to express myself through my music, do 5 push ups and then I panic.. haha. And right after my performance, I will... Give thanks again..... (never forget to give thanks) 5 minutes meditation, then I head into the audience for a regular drink, I can‘t take the backstage lifestyle... I‘d never miss a show by... Luck Dube, If he was still alive... This man has done so much for me throughout my life with his music.. I wish I had the opportunity to experience that live.... Absolute Legend.. (R.I.P) If I had my own festival, the following five artists would headline it: Tracy Chapman, Sizzla, Capleton, Beres Hammond, Lucky Dube, ME, Chronixx, Busy Signal, Cali P, Shabba Ranks, Barrington Levy, Maxi Preist, 20 more artist... Hosted by my father. When I was a child, my greatest hero was... My father. If I could perform anywhere in the world, I would love to go to... Africa.
If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... guidance counsellor for kids. On my perfect day... I‘m in the studio. The first record I bought was... Kanye West - College Dropout. For breakfast this morning I had... A packet of Pringles on the plane. The next hype will be... My EP produced by Peckings. Reggae Jam to me means... Therapy... Unification of souls... Creating smiles.... Making memories.... The R-V-LUTION in effect. I shot the Sheriff, but... I didn‘t shoot the sherif, didn‘t Bob already confess to this crime... Why are you still investigating?

ROMAIN VIRGO
In school they used to call me... by my last name Virgo. Today I‘m known by my stage name Romain Virgo, which... is actually my real name because since the beginning of my career it has always been the name I use and I like hearing the ladies call it lol sounds better when they call it lol. Minutes before I go on stage, I... always pray and do a little vocal warming for like 10 minutes and also some stretches. And right after my performance, I will... pray again and cool off before I start my autograph signing and picture taking with the fans who get their backstage passes. When I was a child, my greatest hero was... my mom. She has always been my hero growing up... Just there and watching us surviving knowing she didn‘t have a permanent job or anything of that sort. If I could perform anywhere in the world, I would love to go to... the motherland Africa. If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... In high school I liked technical drawing so if I wasn‘t doing music today I‘d be doing architectural work maybe. On my perfect day... I achieve something that has to do with my
career, whether it‘s a song that I wrote or just even doing an interview somewhere around the world, after that I‘m good in my heart for the rest of that day. For breakfast this morning I had... egg and bread with some green tea plus some fruits and juice. Reggae Jam to me means... just music bringing beautiful people in one place in one unity to jam all day all night. I shot the Sheriff, but... I didn‘t shoot the deputy.
SENTINEL SOUND
In school they used to call me by the nickname... Allgi: Allgi, even my teachers called my by that name. It‘s a shortened version of my last name. Today I‘m known by my stage name Allgi, which I chose because... when I started playing music as a selector, I tried to introduce another name. But soon, I recognized, that people would still call me Allgi, cause that‘s my nickname since the days of kindergarten. So I kept that name. Minutes before I go on stage, I... Allgi: go to the toilet, because otherwise I would get into some serious trouble with Daniel! On one of the first occasions we played together on Sentinel, I had to leave the stage in search for a toilet! Trust me, he was not very comfortable with that :) And right after my performance, I will... Olde: take out a new shirt, a towel and a deo spray out of my bag. I hate to party with wet clothes ;-) My favorite song, that I‘d never sing publicly, is... Olde: Whitney Houston – How will I know (if SHE really loves me ^^) I‘d never miss a show by... Olde: Bob Marley, 2Pac & Michael Jackson if they were still alive! If I had my own festival, the following five artists would headline it: Olde: Kartel via skype straight from jail, Major Lazer (Summerjam Show was INSANE), Chronixx, Wayne Wonder, Beres Hammond and Roberto Blanco :-D

Daniel: South America. From what I know, the reggae scene is still small there but it‘s growing consistently... Sentinel as an ambassador for reggae & dancehall in South America.... would be GREAT! If I wasn‘t an artist, I‘d probably work as... Daniel: a flagwaver for Capleton... Selassie I! The first stage show I attended was... Elmar: Stone Love feat. Lady Saw live in Treasure Beach Jamaica in 1995. The first record I bought was... Daniel: a cassette with the tales of Tabaluga, a small green dragon. Actually my parents bought it in the mid/late 80es, when I was pretty young. Afterwards I got Tracy Chapman‘s debut album „Tracy Chapman“ from my nanny, which is still in my all time favs! For breakfast this morning I had... Nadia: a live recording of a Sanchez concert with orchestra in Birmingham. The next hype will be… Nadia: hopefully trough someone who can enrich reggae music sustainably. Reggae Jam to me means... Elmar: A real 100% reggae & dancehall festival, the place to be for everybody who cherishes a true love for our music & culture. I shot the Sheriff, but... Elmar: … he always wears a bulletproof vest!

Reggae Jam Riddim
[August 2013 - House Of Riddim]
Sooner or later, every major festival needs its own signature song. Remember Sixth Revelation‘s Chiemsee Summer Reggae Festival? You don‘t? To play it safe, Reggae Jam Festival decided instead to record its very own riddim and release a full selection of it - one you won‘t forget as easily. Unsurprisingly, Bernd “Sheriff” Lagemann, the organizer of Reggae Jam, teamed up with Sam Gilly of House of Riddim to produce the Reggae Jam riddim. House of Riddim is known internationally for its quality productions, for which mostly drummer Sam Gilly is in charge of. They are also one of Europe‘s busiest backing bands. And they have a special connection to Reggae Jam Festival: backing a considerable part of that festival‘s line up, the Austrian band works much harder than any other musician does on that weekend there. While the members of House of Riddim are either on stage or in between of two shows, the Reggae Jam crowd enjoys a relaxed and reasonably sized festival with a stunning line up. The readers of RIDDIM magazine have chosen it as “Best Festival of the Year” four times consecutively. The Reggae Jam riddim perfectly reflects the correspondent festival. With 86 BPM, this F major riddim pushes steadily forward at a speed that won‘t even exhaust you on
those long Saturdays at Reggae Jam. It is a solid and typical House of Riddim production that will neither particularly stun nor derange anyone. Dean Fraser joins the Austrians on saxophone. Reggae Jam host Ganjaman did the mastering. This selection comes with 19 tunes and the instrumental version. No less than nine of the participating vocalists are announced to perform at this year‘s Reggae Jam, and most of the others have played there in recent years. The producers focused on rookies and young talents. The only big names on this selection are Yami Bolo with his Leaders Talk, and Luciano with Doing Jah Will. Anthony Cruz (It‘s A Reggae Party), Teacha Dee & Utan Green (Reggae Show), and Perfect Giddimani (Reggae Jam) chose to stick to the festival theme. Shooting star Randy Valentine proclaims that he has got to Be A Rebel. In line with him is Iba Mahr, whose Conscious Awakening is a hint that he hasn‘t yet lived up to his full potential. A nice selection of artists that aren‘t too expensive to get, and meaningful lyrics on top of music played by House of Riddim: the Reggae Jam riddim selection is more than just the perfect soundtrack to return home from Reggae Jam. by Valentin Zill
