Home of the RCMP Before donning the iconic red serge of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, cadets must first successfully complete training at Regina’s RCMP Academy, Depot Division, where new recruits have trained since 1885. Dedicated to telling the compelling story of the Force, The RCMP Heritage Centre is appropriately located on Depot’s doorstep. Learn about the history of the Force with self-guided audio tours of exhibits that chronicle the evolution of the North West Mounted Police to the modern day RCMP recognized the world over. Take a driving tour of Depot where you can catch the Sergeant Major’s Parade at 12:45 p.m. from Monday to Friday on the Parade Square. On Tuesday evenings in July and August, take in the colourful Sunset-Retreat Ceremony, a Canadian Tourism Commission Signature Experience.
From the Farm to your Table Taste locally grown food and try homemade wares at Regina Farmers’ Market, held on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the spring and summer months. Just a 25 minute drive from Regina through the scenic rolling hills of the Qu’Appelle Valley, you will find the beautiful town of Lumsden. The Motherwell Homestead National Historic Site, located in Abernathy, offers a glimpse into daily life in the early 20th century. The original field stone house and barn built in 1897 still stands today. Understand the life and career of pioneer farmer and politician, W.R. Motherwell, and his significant influence on the development of scientific agriculture in Western Canada.
At Over the Hill Orchards, learn how science has allowed this Saskatchewan based award winning orchard to grow fruit not native to the region. Stay for a slice of glutenfree prairie cherry pie or taste their newly launched fruit wine. Take a tour of Saskatchewan’s first micro-distillery, Last Mountain Distillery. Rowan’s Ravine Provincial Park is located less than an hour from Regina on the east shore of Last Mountain Lake. If you’re an outdoor enthusiast, enjoy the summer to it’s fullest by trying swimming, para-sailing, fishing, hiking, biking, boating and mini-golf. In the summer, camping sites are available, or rent a cabin with a nearby restaurant that overlooks the lake. The Southern Prairie Railway is located in the incredible community of Ogema about 90 minutes south of Regina. Using a renovated Pullman 1922 passenger car and refurbished GE 44 ton engine, adventurers are taken back in time. The train runs west along an old CPR branch line to Horizon, Saskatchewan where a working wooden grain elevator still remains.
