COVER STORY
farewell to victor saturday, may 7th, 2016 - 8:00 pm conexus arts centre victor sawa, conductor regina philharmonic chorus halcyon chamber choir
Join us on May 7, 2016 as we celebrate Maestro Sawa’s tenure with the RSO. The first and ninth symphonies of Beethoven take us on an expedition from the Classical to Romantic. Celebrate Maestro Sawa’s legacy with the RSO in this unforgettable evening of Beethoven. Twenty years ago, Maestro Victor Sawa first took the stage with the RSO at our annual outdoor summer concert. He has since encouraged audiences to explore new aspects of classical music. He established the Wascana Pops concert series followed by a Baroque series, which was performed in a variety of churches throughout Regina, reaching out and attracting those who would not ordinarily attend a symphony performance. The RSOs Masterworks series of traditional classics changed drastically with Maestro Sawa’s non-traditional explanations of the program prior to performances that included anecdotes and humorous insights, enabling everyone to understand complex orchestral music and movements, while changing serious musical experiences to fun experiences of serious music. The regina symphony orchestra will also be honouring Maestro Victor sawa with a Conductor Emeritus Award at the farewell to victor concert! we invite all patrons to sign victor Sawa's message book at the rso office or at any remaining 2015/2016 season concerts.
