Joseph Schneider Haus Joseph Schneider Haus National Historic Site is a dynamic community museum and local landmark in downtown Kitchener. The 1816 Georgian frame farmhouse was built by one of the area’s early settlers, Joseph Schneider, a Pennsylvania-German Mennonite. History comes to life as costumed staff demonstrate traditional tasks in step with the seasons. Come by for a visit and enjoy hands-on activities, workshops, special events, gallery exhibits and more!

Summer at Joseph Schneider Haus
Step back in time and meet the Schneiders. You’ll find costumed staff doing seasonal chores such as gardening, pickling, preserving, baking, and laundry. Special guests throughout the summer. Monday
Thursday
Laundry and Hygiene Roll up your sleeves and learn how the Schneiders made soap, did the washing, mending, ironing and cleaning without modern appliances and products.
Food Preservation and Storage Get a first-hand look at the transformation of the harvest. Produce will be pickled and dried as the Schneiders prepare for the winter ahead.
Tuesday
Friday and Saturday FF Bake Days Help make yeast, bread, pies, puddings and sample a bite or two.
Wool Processing The Schneiders will be washing, carding, spinning and dyeing wool all summer. Wednesday Folk Medicine Time-honoured recipes for herbal medicines will be brewed using cuttings from our four-square garden.

Sunday Sunday Sampler Explore the quiet pursuits of a summer Sunday. Try traditional handcrafts, tour the garden, and enjoy a cup of lemon balm tea.
