Fortnightly news for the Groote Eylandt community proudly produced by GEMCO
Looking back on the Year-2012 On Groote We achieved many things this year in our small community. Picnic Day, Footy Competitions, Netball, Arts Festival, BMX Events, Literacy Day and workshops, massive fundraising for many charities. Paid respects on ANZAC Day, saw in some new Aussies. Kept the Eylandt safe from Cane Toads. Cycled from Umbakumba to Angurugu not just once but twice. Housing upgrades. Had some great visiting entertainment. Took on a health challenge. Welcomed some new faces to the Eylandt and farewelled some old ones. Recognised outstanding community work of several members. International Food Festival and set some new records at the mine. Ran Zumba classes, Martial Arts, Badminton, Boxing, Markets, Cultural Festival, Book Club, Gun Club, Scouts to name a few……... ……….. and I think someone went fishing at some stage. Following are a few of the highlights and images that capture our year on Groote.
Merry Christmas Groote Eylandt and have a Happy New Year. Enjoy your celebrations where ever you may be and we look forward to seeing you all next year and thanks to the crews that will be working over the Christmas period
