EDITOR’S WELCOME
old man who was the victim of a terrifying attack last month.
I would like to start my column by expressing my sadness following the incident and by sending my condolences to Jack’s friends and family.

I’ve visited the scene a number of times and read the incredible floral tributes which have been left and from what I’ve read, Jack was an incredible man and made a huge impression with the people he knew in Hailsham. The outpouring of love from the people I’ve spoken to is incredible.
It is impossible to know what his family is going through right now and I sincerely hope justice is served.
In other news, it was great to attend the recent Fire Station ‘Have a Go Day’ and speak to some of the firefighters and potential new recruits. (See page 17).
It is easy for us to criticise the fire service when the Hailsham crew cannot be deployed to local incidents - but without new recruits, it’s going to become ever harder for them in the future.
Now is a great time to join the fire service as they are always on the lookout for new recruits. The message given to me on the day is, never to rule yourself out, as there are so many different roles within the service to suit everyone. More information about joining can be found on the East Sussex Fire and Rescue website. Finally, I’d like to wish all our readers and advertisers a fantastic Christmas and we’ll be back in 2024.
