AURORA PARK BOARD A meeting of The Aurora Park Board took place Monday, April 16th, 2012 in the meeting room of the City Building. Present: Michael Peters, President Mayor Donnie Hastings, Jr. Mike Crider Cindy Rottinghaus Jeff Stratman Benny Turner Randy Turner, Clerk/Treasurer Steven Turner, Park Caretaker Also present: Kevin Gerke Joe Milish Debbie Peters, Aurora Utilities Matt Probst Press was represented by Chandra Mattingly President Mike Peters opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Upon motion by Crider, seconded by B. Turner, the minutes of the March 19 th meeting were approved as presented. Dr. Matt Probst reported that the girls from the Polar Bear International Project won the local competition. Theirs is one of the top three in the Nation!!! They are going to San Diego for the awards ceremony and will learn exactly where they placed. What a great job these girls have done. We congratulate them and thank them for their work. Visitors Dave Miles, from Co-ed Softball, was present to ask if they can use Largent Field on Friday nights. They will provide the $500 fee and proof of insurance. They hope to have the first game in early May and will be finished by September. It was noted that more work needs to be done on the field before play can begin. Randy Turner advised - It will cost the same as last year to paint the pool. - All plumbing and filter controls are in. - Chemicals have been ordered for the small pool. 4/26/2012

It will cost between $12,000 and $18,000 to re-do the bathroom floors so that they will be good for 10 years; since we don’t have the money in the budget, this will be put on hold. The restroom stalls in the Pavilion are being done by Paul Seymour of Lawrenceburg; stalls will be plastic; they will cost around $9,000; work will be done between the 26th of April and 5th of May.

Cindy Rottinghaus advised that the Park Board had been awarded a grant from the Rising Sun Regional Foundation (RSRF) of up to $25,000 for fencing for the dog park!!! It is contingent upon (1) having only two enclosures instead of four, (2) the City receiving their grant from the Lawrenceburg Community Foundation for the Park Avenue site, and (3) receiving the in-kind donations mentioned in the grant. The grant was signed by Mike Peters and returned to RSRF. Hastings observed that we need additional signage for the Park Avenue site. We need to post and enforce the 20 Miles per Hour speed limit zone. Jeff Stratman advised that - the Lesko Park project is still on schedule for mid-June for a Substantial Completion date; - the concrete for the bathrooms was poured last week; - they are still working on the parking lot; - they started doing some curbing in the parking lot; - it will be paved and parking spaces will be lined. The old flag pole will be moved from Lesko Park to the Park Avenue site. Debbie Peters will take care of re-locating the benches from Lesko Park along the Bike Trail. Mike Crider observed that the new Little League ball field looks good; they did the infield with a sod slitter. Opening Day for Little League is April 28th, the same day as the City-Wide Clean-up and the SIAG Art show opening. Mike Peters observed that Debbie Peters is doing a great job keeping the Parks taken care of. Mike also advised that the dead trees on Main Street have been replaced. Debbie Peters advised that the bleachers, benches, and picnic tables will be painted Barnyard Red. The Community Corrections people will be here working on April 28th. Steve Turner reported that - Hillforest had their Spring rummage Sale over the weekend - May 9th is South Dearborn High School Service Day

Also on May 9th is the Pen Pal picnic AND on May 9th the children will be planting at City Park The Round Barn will be rent-able on May 12th. All bathrooms are opened up; so far we haven’t had to lock them at night.
