CHIROPRACTIC / ACUPUNCTURE
Q. Doctor Stricker how does acupuncture work?
A. I personally perform acupuncture on my patients. I have been trained in Chinese, Korean, Japanese, as well as American acupuncture. The basis that I understand is restoring proper energy flow to the body. In restoring proper energy flow we can retrain some of the organs as well as the nerves to perform more properly. For example, Raymond Stricker someone who has chronic pain may have nerves that are D.C. FIAMA, Dipl. very sensitive and with acupuncture we may be able to AC LLC retrain some of these nerves to not perceive the sensation of pain which they may have been experiencing. Also with restoring energy flow to other parts of the body. I have had great success in decreasing people's allergies, helping people to quit smoking, as well as helping people with Parkinson's and even emphysema. There are also some miracle points which I think are really fun to know. For example, there is a miracle point to help people quit hiccupping which is on the middle finger and pressure with the thumb can easily stop a child or an adult to stop hiccupping. If you have any questions regarding chiropractic, massage therapy, or acupuncture please feel free to contact my office.
AUTO COLLISION
Q. I was in an accident, the other driver was at fault and his insurance company is taking responsibility for repairing my car. An "adjuster" from another company is coming to inspect my car. Why is that?
A. The "adjuster" you are referring to is an independent adjuster hired by the insurance company to write an estimate on the damage to your vehicle. Ed Gerstner Most estimates are written in one of three ways. 1) Insurance companies have a drive-in center where you take your vehicle so one of their adjusters can inspect the vehicle and write an estimate. 2) Insurance companies have their own team of adjusters that come to you, inspect the vehicle and write an estimate. Or 3) Insurance companies hire independent contractors that will come to you, inspect the vehicle, and write an estimate for the insurance company. At Randy Lane's Auto Body, Inc., we write our own estimates for every vehicle that comes into our facility. We then compare it against the insurance estimate to make sure all areas that need repair are addressed. Remember you are free to take your vehicle to the collision repair facility of your choice.
OPTOMETRIST
Q: Dr. Ringel, what is a “lazy eye”?
A: “Lazy eye” is a term often used when referring to the condition called amblyopia. Amblyopia is the result of an eye and the brain not working properly together. There are many causes of amblyopia including large differences in the prescription between the Michael F. Ringel, O.D. two eyes and crossing of the eyes. A “lazy eye” can be treated if discovered at a young age. Eye patching is the most common treatment. The American Optometric Association recommends that all children have their eyes examined by the age of two, in part to help detect this common condition. I routinely examine and treat children in my office for this and many other conditions.

PHARMACIST
Q. I will be traveling this summer and am concerned about leg problems on the long plane ride. Do you know of anything that can help?
A. The longer the trip and the longer you remain inactive, the slower your circulation Jeff Biddle will become. During long trips without exercising or stretching your legs, you may begin to notice swelling, discomfort or pain in your legs, ankles and feet. These symptoms are just one part of the travel problem. When travelling we all need to be aware of a more serious condition called deep vein thrombosis (DVT), and take precautions against it. Move around as much as possible. You can also wear support socks. Support socks help improve circulation. We carry them in our pharmacy. Stop in and ask.

MONEY MANAGEMENT
What are we to expect since the US Supreme Court has upheld “Obamacare” as a tax?
It was former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that said, “We have to pass the bill, so you can find out what is in it”. The bill weighed in @ 2,074 pages and was passed without being read by most members of Congress. What we see is the bill is filled with the largest tax increase in history and massive new regulations. Roger Ford Fox News recently reported that officials have already drafted 13,000 pages of new regulations for the Obama tax law, which is already costing money and expanding the government. While the individual mandate tax gets most of the attention, the Obamacare law actually contains at least 20 new or higher taxes on the American people, such as: • Obama Medical Device Manufacturing tax of 2.3% on medical devices. • Obamacare will increase the threshold for claiming itemized deductions for medical and dental expenses from 7.5% to 10% of adjusted gross income. • Obamacare will cap flexible spending accounts at $2,500. • Obamacare Surtax on Investment Income will raise the top capital gains rate from 15% to 23.8% and the top dividend rate from 15% to 43.4%. • Obamacare Medicare Payroll tax increase will be soaking employers to the tune of $86 billion over the next 10 years. This will not help unemployment one bit. Your future is filled with increasing taxes and lowering benefits, so your nest egg may need to be positioned better to defend yourself. TAXES
Q. Are Social Security benefits taxable?
A. It depends on your total income and marital status. Generally, if Social Security benefits are your only income, your benefits are not taxable and you probably do not need to file a federal tax return. If you receive income from sources in addition to Social Security and your modified adjusted gross income is not more than the base Darren Bowman, CPA amount for your filing status, then your benefits will also not be taxed. This quick computation will help you determine your modified adjusted gross income: add one-half of the total Social Security you receive to all your other income, including any tax-exempt interest and other exclusions from income. Then compare this total to the base amount for your filing status. The 2012 base amounts are $ 32,000 for married filing jointly, $ 25,000 for single, head of household, and married filing separate if you lived apart for the entire year, and $ 0 for married filing separate if you lived together during the year. If your modified adjusted gross income exceeds these base amounts, then part of your Social Security benefits will be taxable. If you have any questions concerning the taxability of your Social Security benefits, please give us a call.

INSURANCE
Q. What is Personal Liability coverage on my homeowners policy?
A. Personal Liability coverage is automatically included on homeowners and tenant policies. This coverage protects you against a claim or lawsuit resulting from bodily injury or property damage to Roger Ford others caused by your negligence. It has a dollar limit on the amount the insurance company will pay on a claim. It covers you and family members residing in the home, including dependants under age 21 that live elsewhere, such as college. This section of the policy also pays when you are legally obligated to cover damages because of something that happened on your property (ex. someone falls) or as a result of your personal activities (ex. hit a ball through someone's window). The company will pay to represent you against a liability claim or lawsuit; there are no policy limits on legal expenses.

Before your children go back to school, take this opportunity to talk to them about peer pressure, and drug and alcohol use. Help them make the grade by letting them know you’re there to help them handle new, challenging situations. •
Drugs can cause lifelong damage to your body and even death. They can affect the way you look, act, think and feel in very negative ways. • If your friends pressure you to use drugs, it makes sense to seek out new friends who respect your decision to stay drug-free. • If you or someone you know has a problem with drugs, ask a parent, teacher, counselor or any trusted adult for help.
