environmental park could not continue under the park board's jurisdiction. The board voted unanimously to consider taking over jurisdiction with board member Janie Eldridge abstaining. Eldridge (despite no longer not receiving a salary from the city and county) has been able to oversee the park and fund programs at the environmental park through grants which she said takes up to 30 percent of her time. It would mean more work for park director Bell but it could lead to additional hours for administrative assistant Heather Whitham, who along with Bell has experience in grant writing. That brought up the question of additional funding and whether city and county officials would make any available. Shultz admitted the board needs to be more informed and educated on what and how things are done at the environmental park. Baker, along with commissioner Shane Koons and city council protem Steve Slack, said nothing had to change overnight but that the board look at how it could be done. As for now, things will operate on a day to day basis as is. Baker added that there was no truth to the rumor that the environmental park would become a gun club or home for some other type activity. However, county council discussed a horse trail as a possible us during its meeting on Monday. Space is available for the 2012 boating season at the rate of $10.00 per foot. Boats may be moored on the inside (shore) side of the public docks only. No public utilities will be provided. Applications will be available at the City of Rising Sun's Clerk Treasurer's office at the City Building 200 North Walnut Street from 8:30am to 5:00pm or at www.cityofrisingsun.com beginning Thursday April 5th. Completed applications must be returned to the Clerk Treasurer's office at the City Building by noon April 19, 2012. Applicants must provide a certificate of insurance with completed application and a check made payable to the RSOC Port Authority. Faxed applications will not be accepted. Space is limited - there are usually 7-9 slips de pending on boat sizes: In the event there are more applications than space permits Applicants will be drawn randomly by the Port Authority at their April meeting and checks will be returned to applicant(s) not receiving a slip.
