egistry Indonesia is honoured to profile and feature an individual such as Mrs. Clara Veis, the spouse of the incumbent Greek ambassador to Indonesia, His Excellency (HE) Mr. Georgios Veis. As the age old adage goes, that behind every successful man, there is a woman who serves as the bedrock, from which the man is able to climb to greater and higher heights. It appears that after meeting with the highly intellectual and capable Mr. Clara Veis, we may have to add and modify that age old adage. Mrs. Clara Veis with her kind and welcoming disposition certainly comes across as a most capable and highly talented woman with excellent credentials in her own right. As well as being a member of the Spouse Head of Mission (SHOM) organization, Mrs. Clara Veis is also a member of the Women’s International Club. She also played an active role in helping the ‘Yayasan Pendidikan Anak Cacat’ otherwise referred to as the foundation for the education of disabled children (YPAC), a social outreach program that she was very proud to be a part of up until January 2014 and something which she saw as a way to help out those that are less fortunate and put a few smiles back on children, ‘I really like children’ added Mrs. Clara Veis emphatically. In addition to assisting the YPAC in Jakarta, Mrs. Clara Veis has also helped out other outreach programmes in Sudan for several private organisations under the auspice of the French NGO (MSF). Born and raised in Jakarta, Mrs. Clara Veis completed her high school education in Jakarta and thereafter proceeded to San Fransisco to continue her studies eventually majoring in marketing. In Hongkong, she took a course at the London Royal School and is an accomplished pianist although she humbly downplays her musical skills. It was while she was in Hongkong working as a flight attendant that she met her partner in life, HE Mr. Georgios Veis. They tied the knot not long after in a civil ceremony in 2004 and had the occassion commemorated in 2005 in Bali. True to her relaxed and calm nature, Mrs. Clara Veis remarks “that I am quite privileged to be the wife of a serving ambassador.” What is also inherently obvious to her is, that, “there is a very strong diplomatic community here in Indonesia, and relations between the various ambassadors and their counterparts is extremely cordial and friendly.” “A very strong support system is naturally in place, as these are individuals who have chosen a life away from their country of origin and many numerous embassies and consulates are working hand in hand, supporting one another.” As is customary with being the spouse of an ambassador, Mrs. Clara Veis tends to travel quite frequently, and she lists Hongkong as well as Greece as two places of which she is

also a resident of. She counts Hongkong to be an excellent place to live in, especially during the shopping season, which the former British colony is renowned for. She also spends a significant portion of time in Greece and is usually there during the Easter holidays. When in Indonesia, Mrs. Clara Veis enjoys spending as much time with her husband as possible, and frequently goes on walks with him whilst also taking time out to explore the natural settings which are plentiful, here in Indonesia. She also enjoys yoga as a form of exercise and having had some experience practicing Yoga, Mrs. Clara Veis also shares her Yoga knowledge with the spouses of the other ambassadors usually on a per weekly basis. More than any other activity, it is painting and her interest in art, which has captured the attention and interest of Mrs. Clara Veis. It is also an activity that has marked her out as an individual with a highly acclimatized taste in art and the study of capturing images tinged with realism. Remarkably enough, her strong suit in painting was identified by coincidence. “I started out by painting several images which had a primary foreground containing stones and rock bodies, such as reefs, and an art curator who saw my paintings recommended that I pay further attention to painting stones. Knowing about the world of art in general, there is a tendency for various art critics to downplay the visual impact of mix media, with a belittling of sorts taking place, which relegates mix media to merely craft,” explains Mrs. Clara Veis succinctly. “Art, though, is something which is meant to be enjoyed and is seen as a form of expression which allows us to take advantage of our creative inquistion. In general, art is too broad of a subject to be defined specifically.” Mrs. Clara Veis also cites the occassion where she visited a young Indonesian artist’s work which consisted of using human hairs only on a piece of canvas, and which came to be internationally accepted. It is also highly evident that not only is Mrs. Clara Veis highly articulate in expressing her views on art, she is also a highly capable artist who just recently displayed her works in her first solo exhibition which was held this past April. A staggering 80% of her artwork was sold at the exhibition and furthermore, a significant portion of the proceeds of the exhibition were donated to the rumah Singgah Ango - Tomang. Mrs. Clara Veis hopes to have several other exhibitions in the future, and in doing so, her excellent portrayals of stone foundations have enabled her to be a trend setter of sorts in the wide world of art. A remarkably talented individual, brimming with confidence and talent, Mrs. Clara Veis has painted a great future for herself, and with her graceful poise and confident personality there is much for her to look forward to.

To celebrate its 10th anniversay, Montblanc TimeWalker Extreme Chronograph DLC launched a new family of watches which defined a new design vocabulary. The innovative look, combining masculine technology and sporty elegance made the TimeWalker line one of the most successful watch collection. This year, Montblanc starts off the year 2014 with the new TimeWalker Extreme Chronograph DLC. DLC stands for “diamond-like carbon” material which is a treatment that ensures the increase of the toughness of the stainless steel case’s surface. Mountblanc TimeWalker Extreme Chronograph uses the mechanical caliber MB 4810/507, manufactured in accord with all the rules that goern the art of Swiss watchmaking. At a steady pace of 28,800 semi-oscillations per hour (4 Hz), the watch’s elapsed-second hand advances in eighthof-a-second increments - the exact measurement of brief intervals. Montblanc TimeWalker Extreme Chronograph DLC has a high-tech wristband secured by a black stainless steel pronged buckle which, like the other stainless steel parts, is micro-bead blasted and coated with a layer of Black 4 DLC. The traditional craftsmanship values which follows the principles of Swiss haute horlogerie is lived up by Montblanc, and the quest for performance and innovation is reflected in the TimeWalker chronograph line.

Montblanc TimeWalker Extreme Chronograph will become available in autumn 2014. Compare the Mountblanc TImeWalker Extreme with the Montblanc TimeWalker Chronograph 100. The latter performs a feature that is seldom achieved by mechanical timepieces due to a patented chronograph function - the timepiece can measure elapsed intervals to the nearest 100th of a second. The Minerva Manufacture, which later became Montblanc Manufacture, sparked great enthusiasm among specialists when it firs launched its 100th-of-a-second stopwatch in 1916. Relying on nearly century-old competence, the Montblanc TimeWalker Chronograph 100 is equipped with its newly developed manufacture calibre MB M66.25, which is embedded in a case crafted

from materials used in racing cars and accentuate the movement’s innovative mechanism. In order to measure intervals with 100th-of-a-second precision, the Montblanc TimeWalker Chronograph 100 must have a balance that is able to vibrate at a frequency of 360,000 semi-oscillations per hour (50 hertz). Due to this need, the Montblanc TimeWalker Chronograph 100 cannot rely on the same mechanical principle as a conventional chronograph calibre. This prompted the watchmakers at Montblanc Manufacture to embed the watch with two balances. Thus, the chronograph has one movement and two hearts. The Mountblanc TimeWalker Chronograph 100 will become available starting in the autumn 2014, in a limited series of 100 timepieces.

The name 4N is read in English 4 Numbers, reflecting the 4-digit display of a dozen hours, hours, dozens of minutes and minutes. The brand identity is summed up in its logo, displaying a character in counter-form. The 4N-MVT01/D01/42 model is limited to only 16 pieces, embodying the spirit of 4N as it is the premier piece. The MVT01 is a mechanical movement and display which is housed in a truly masculine case. Replacing the moving hands, the MVT01 has been conceived with the clever use of rotating discs. The subassembly of the discs are made of nickel or silicon alloys and held in place by cage-like structures. When activated, they reveal the time, which changes with the passing of each minute. 4 discs are used to indicate the hour, 5 discs to indicate the minute and 1 disc to display tenths of minutes.

first introduced in the European market, beginning with model year 1981 S-Class. Mercedes-Benz was the first to introduce pre-tensiones to seat belts on the 1981 S-Class. In the event of a crash, a pre-tensioner will tighten the belt instantaneously, removing any ‘slack’ in the belt, which prevents the occupant from falling forward in a crash. In September 2003, Mercedes-Benz introduced the world’s first seven-speed automatic transmission called ‘7G-Tronic’. Mercedes-Benz pioneered a system called Pre-Safe to detect an imminent crash – and prepares the car’s safety systems to respond optimally. It also calculates the optimal braking force required to avoid an accident in emergency situations, and makes it immediately available for when the driver depresses the brake pedal. Electronic Stability Programme, brake assist, and many other types of safety equipment were all developed, tested, and implemented into passenger cars first by Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes-Benz has not made a large fuss about its innovations, and has even licensed them for use by competitors in the name of improving automobile and passenger safety. One of Indonesia’s greatest painters is Srihadi Soedarsono, born in Surakarta, 4 December 1931, whose paintings have long been sought after by local and international collectors. Soedarsono’s interest in art started in 1948 when as Student Army officer, he was entrusted to create posters for the Department of Information of the Indonesian National Army, Division X, Solo. Currently, besides painting, Soedarsono also teaches at Institute Teknologi Bandung and Institute Kesenian Jakarta. The characteristics of the Indonesian Maestro has evolved through a long and continuous process. Early in his artistic career, Soedarsono was instructed in painting and drawing by the artist Sudjojono. He started his studies in Arts in Bandung and continued his education at the Ohio State University in 1958, until he achieved the title of Master of Art. There, he was influenced by action painting or Abstract Expressionism, and upon his return to Indonesia painted in a semi-abstract style. The beginning of his career was heavily influenced by academic education which brought his paintings to be geometric syntactical. Entering the 1970’s, Soedarsono’s paintings was becoming impressionistic using watercolour and oil paint, and he returned to a representational style. calligraphy. His latest work depicts the home industry of gold miners on the island of Kalimantan (Borneo), panning for gold in a body of water. For many centuries, the local community of Kalimantan (Borneo) has been panning and mining for gold as a home industry and has been the main source of economy for the locals. The piece is a mixture of a wealth of natural resources and interference of technology and human culture. As with all other paintings by Tio Tjay, the exquisite painting of gold miners, titled “Mendulang Emas” (literally means, “Panning for Gold”), has a couple of beautiful layers of messages – one that celebrates art and colours, vividly visible by the naked eye, and another that mourns over the interference of man in nature, seen only by the eyes of the mindful. The piece is not only

recognition of artistic beauty, but also a brilliant communiqué hidden in colours. Tio Tjay’s inspiration is always triggered by the traditional lives in both Indonesia and Brazil. The gold-panning, the harvesting, the village festival celebration, they all describe the same message that is being conveyed here – the beauty of traditional living, where daily connection with nature still plays a prominent role. It is this hope of returning to the serenity of the relationship between man and nature that brings Tio Tjay to paint his master pieces.
