Regis University Highlights The inauguration of our new president enlivened the University with new energy and vision. Senior leadership searches were completed: chief information officer, dean of the Library, associate dean of the Dual Language Program, dean of CPS School of Humanities and Social Sciences, dean of the CPS School of Management, dean of the CPS School of Education and Counseling, and the first director of the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning. David M. Clarke, S.J. Hall was finished on schedule and within budget, and St. Peter Claver Hall additions and renovations continued. The University-wide strategic planning process was launched. University Brand Marketing and Information Technology Services launched a new externalfacing enterprise website Regis.edu. University Brand Marketing launched a new brand campaign, developed key digital assets including social media, and launched Regis Today, an internal communications platform. The School of Pharmacy graduated its inaugural class of pharmacy doctorates with a residency placement rate above the national average. The University advanced sustainable energy initiatives, including the LEED Silver Level construction of Clarke Hall, Trust the Tap program, and the Car Share Program. Student Learning Communities were formed across the colleges: Leading Lives That Matter, the Magis Experience, Pre-Business, Pre-Science, Colorado Outdoor Recreation Experience (CORE), Health Care Professions, Arts and Pop Culture, and Ignatian Leadership. Prestigious campus visitors included E.J. Dionne of the Washington Post, Nobel Laureate Rigoberta Menchu Tum, David and Shirley Lacks (The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks), Christian Holmes of USAID, adult learning scholar Stephen Brookfield, higher education scholars Richard Keeling and Richard Hersch, and war historian Alex Kershaw. The University was privileged to host the Smithsonian Bracero Exhibit in Dayton Memorial Library for three months. 2
The Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning held workshops, cross-college faculty learning communities, and a three-day celebration of student learning. The new Learning Commons provided Regis’ first university wide writing and tutoring academic support and testing services. The University’s first teacher education career fair was held with over 23 organizations and every school district in the Front Range of Colorado in attendance. A Regis-wide committee conducted a justice “audit” of the University, called the “Justice Examen,” along with the 27 other Jesuit colleges and universities for a report at Creighton University in August. Dayton Memorial Library expanded the scope of the Regis University Digital Repository and increased access to electronic journals, e-books, streaming video, and media production. A new faculty compensation system was developed. Regis University provided academic and administrative support for Jesuit Commons: Higher Education at the Margins, which educates refugees in Kenya, Malawi and Jordan. Migrations and initiatives included Ricoh printing services, a unified communication system (Microsoft Lync 2010), Regis’ first Mac computer labs, and a fourth new videoconferencing classroom in Colorado Springs. Regis’ new Business Intelligence infrastructure was launched in January. A memorandum of understanding was signed to collaborate with the University of Denver in its proposed new community-based medical school. The third Learning Technology Fair was held with 36 live presentations and 26 poster sessions. Prototypes were begun in both RHCHP and CPS for professional continuing education as potential models of the future. Migration was completed from ANGEL to Desire2Learn as the new learning management system (LMS). The University achieved HIPAA readiness assessment and compliance. The Sullivan Chair for Free Enterprise played a major role in passing the Colorado bill HB 1153 authorizing the creation of public benefit corporations in Colorado.

The College for Professional Studies marketing and admissions staff was reunited with the main campus community from its South Broadway office. Risk Management and Campus Safety continued to expand Department of Homeland Security and FEMA emergency preparedness training.
Regis University Distinction Regis University received the U.S. President’s Honor Roll for Community Engagement “with distinction” award for the second year in a row. Regis University was recognized by U.S. News and World Report as a Top University in the West for the 18th year. The Regis University Men’s Soccer Team became the first-ever team in any sport to earn a #1 national ranking and finished with a 17-2-1 record. Men’s soccer, women’s soccer and volleyball all qualified for the NCAA Tournament. Volleyball and men’s soccer each entered the NCAA Tournament as the South Central Region top seed. Volleyball hosted the South Central Region Tournament, while men’s soccer made the programs’ first-ever appearance in the Sweet 16. Regis University’s debate team won the 50th annual Air Force Debate Tournament. Two faculty received Fulbright awards: Dr. John Jean (Regis College Department of Chemistry) to Portugal and Dr. Rita Axford (Rueckert-Hartman College for Health Professions School of Nursing) to Cyprus. The U.S. News and World Report’s ranking of best programs for “Teaching Practices and Student Engagement” ranked the CPS undergraduate and graduate online education programs as 7th out of 172 and 11th out of 156 institutions respectively. The Regis College Teacher Education Program became the first in Colorado to be approved for the new Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) endorsement standards at the undergraduate education level. The National Endowment for the Humanities honored Dayton Memorial Library with the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf Award. The University Brand Marketing department received the Public Relations Society of America’s “Gold Pick” and “Best in PR” awards for excellence in social media campaigns.

The Association of Jesuit Colleges and University’s Conference on Multicultural Affairs gave its “Distinguished Program/Project Award and Distinguished Program/Project Award Certificate of Merit” for Regis’ work in diversity and multiculturalism. The Loveland Campus received recognition by the Ft. Collins Chamber of Commerce as the Small Business of the Month, out of 150 nominated businesses, based on community involvement and visibility. The Thornton Campus received the Best Job Creator Award by the Thornton Chamber of Commerce. SuperScholar Smart Choice Ranking recognized the College for Professional Studies as one of the “25 Best Online Colleges and Universities of 2012.” GI Jobs named CPS a “Top Military Friendly School for 2013.” The College for Professional Studies Online MBA was ranked in the top ten by TheBestColleges.org. The Jesuit Commons: Higher Education at the Margins received the Distinguished Program Award for Credit Programs at the National Conference of the Association of Continuing Higher Education. The CPS Learning Design Department won the 2012 Association for Continuing Higher Education (ACHE) Creative Use of Technology Award for its Passport to Course Development program.
