AREA OF THE REGION – 13.9 thousand km² ALTITUDE ABOVE SEA LEVEL Mountainous part constitutes 65% of area of the region. The highest peak in Ukraine is Hoverla mountain (2,061 m) PRECIPITATION From 610 to 1,000 mm a year. Moderately continental climate.

There are 8,321 rivers and 3 reservoir storages in the region with the cumulative water volume 63.47 mln m³, including: Burshtynske, Kniahynytske and Chechvynske.

1.4. Education There were 746 comprehensive schools with 146.8 thousand pupils in 2012/2013 school year. Vocational technical schools amounted to 22 units with 12.8 thousand students. Training of personnel with higher education by professional orientation is carried out in 23 higher education institutions (HEI), among which 17 HEI have I-II accreditation levels, 6 HEI have III-IV accreditation levels. 1.6. Economic potential PRIORITY SECTORS OF ECONOMY IN THE REGION There are over 2 thousand industrial enterprises in Ivano-Frankivsk region. The following economic activities dominate in sales of industrial products: production of chemical products, foods, extractive industry, electric power, gas and heat supply, which constitute over 76% in total sales volume of industrial products of the region. EXPORT/IMPORT, COUNTRIES, BALANCE In 2012 the enterprises and organisations of Ivano-Frankivsk region exported products to 75 countries of the world; imported articles were brought from 72 countries. Export deliveries amounted to $821.5 mln that is by 12.8% less than in 2011; the arrivals decreased by 7.9% and amounted to $983.7 mln. Red ink of foreign trade made up $162.2 mln. The following services dominated in the structure of export of services by economic activities: - transport and communication services – 56.1% - defence industry services – 34.7% - educational services – 5.2% Compared to 2011 the export of services connected with extraction industry increased by 290.3%, those connected with collective, public and personal services – by 32.8%. In the imports the largest unit weight was made up by services connected with defence industry (49.8%) and real estate activities (25.4%).

New-built enterprise at the territory of Khryplynsk Investment and Industrial Area manufactures electric cable products FOR European type vehicles. Tyko Electronics Ukraine Ltd. plans to further increase plant capacity in Ukraine and in Ivano-Frankivsk in particular, to extend electric cable product mix for different makes of cars.

Information on initiator Tyco Electronics is the world supplier of electronic components, network technologies and wireless systems selling its products to the consumers in 150 countries of the world and having average annual sales over $13 bln. Department of electronic components is world largest supplier of passive components, including connectors, relays, switches, protecting devices, touchpads, sensors, wires and cables. It develops, produces and sells products of such sectors motor industry, instrument-making industry, aircraft construction, telecommunications, computer engineering and household appliances. More than 8,000 design engineers, production
capacity, sales and servicing professionals all over the world are obvious advantages for its consumers. The plant became the 18th enterprise of ÀÂ Electrolux in Europe. The production of modern high-quality laundry washers under the brand Zanussi and Electrolux started on April 3, 2011. These washers are sold in Ukraine, CIS countries, Eastern Europe and Baltic states. Production of Electrolux Ukraine LLC is a complete production cycle meeting international quality and safety requirements.

Swedish company ÀÂ Electrolux is one of the leading producers of household appliances selling its products on the markets of more than 150 countries of the world.
1.8. Transport and communications Transport system of the region is represented by railway, motor and air transport; it is one of the most important components of industrial and social infrastructures of Ivano-Frankivsk region. MAJOR MOTORWAYS Ivano-Frankivsk region has favourable geopolitical and transit location. It is connected with many important economic regions of Ukraine and neighbouring European states by forked road network; it is incorporated into zone of international transport corridor development; it is located on the crossroads of Trans-European roads. Ivano-Frankivsk region borders Romania to its south, the distance to the borders with other European countries (Poland, Hungary) is from 250 to 300 km, creating extremely favourable conditions for transporting products to European countries. The stretch of public motorways at the territory of Ivano-Frankivsk region is 4,172.6 km. They include: state roads — 1,214.4 km (with 33.1 km of international roads) and local roads — 2,958.2 km. Ivano-Frankivsk region is located at the crossroads of three national roads: H18, Í09 and H10, as well as one national road Ò09-06. All the Í-roads are connected with European motorway Å50. European route Å50 (France — Russian Federation) passes through the north of the region. Motorways Å 40 (Venice — Kyiv) and Å85 (Baltic Sea — Black Sea) pass nearby. AIRPORTS Ivano-Frankivsk International Airport is conveniently located in the centre of Western Ukraine 180-300 km away from Polish, Slovak, Romanian and Hungarian borders. The airport is located 4.4 km away from regional centre, 480 km away from the capital of Ukraine (the city of Kyiv). The total area of airport facilities is 16,587.4 m² with acceptance rate of 150 passengers for one arrival and 150 passengers for one departure per hour. RAILWAY NETWORK Total stretch of the railway is 493.6 km. There are 35 railway stations in the region. The density of the railways is 35.5 km for 1,000 sq km. • Rail interchanges: Ivano-Frankivsk, Kalush and Kolomyia.

Railway tracks are predominately one-track. Ivano-Frankivsk is connected (through Lviv) with: Berlin, Budapest, Bratislava, Warsaw, Wroclaw, Krakow, Minsk, Moscow, Prague and Saint-Petersburg.
BUS TERMINALS Buses: route network of the regional centre is represented by 52 routes and 250 buses for passenger traffic. Bus station No. 1 is the interchange of several international routes; intercity and regional passenger traffic is carried out as well.

1.9. Socio-cultural sphere MAJOR HEALTH CARE INSTITUTIONS There are 85 medical institutions for 11.7 thousand beds in Ivano-Frankivsk region. There are 85 beds per each 10 thousand people. The network of outpatient clinics amounts to 272. CULTURE, SPORT, ÒOURISM In Ivano-Frankivsk region there are4 professional theatres, 24 museums, 771 libraries, 723 clubs, 158 cinemas and so forth. Description Specialized systems of aquapark provide stable temperature and humidity in the facilities with swimming pools in warm and cold times as well as air hygiene and sanitary conditions. All the rides are certified, the swimming pools are equipped by the modern water purification systems. Total area of aquapark including outside swimming pool, cafe and bas is 10,000 m² (500 people per hour).

Panorama Plaza Shopping and entertainment centre with business site of 8,900 m² dates back to December 2004 and has already established a positive goodwill in the market. T.H. Shevchenko Amusement Park (12b Chornovol St.)
The park is the memorial of local landscape art. This is a favourite recreation area of inhabitants and guests of the city. Different cultural and sport events take place here. There is a lake next to the park with the total area of 30 ha. There are 6,203 trees of 62 species in the park.

MUSEUMS Ivano-Frankivsk region numbers a lot of unique museums not only at the territory of Ukraine, but abroad as well. Pysanka Museum can be distinguished. There are over 6000 painted Easter eggs from different regions of Ukraine and different countries of the world in the Museum. Painted Easter eggs with the signatures of renowned statesmen of Ukraine also belong to the Museum collection. According to the results of "Seven Wonders of Ukraine" Action the Museum has taken the 8th place due to the Internet users' votes and at the 17th place due to experts' votes. Ivano-Frankivsk Regional Local History Museum. It was founded in 1940 at the basis of old Pokut and Zhabiv Local History Museums and private collections. 3 1959 Since 1959 the Museum is located in the historical building of the town hall. Museum exposition is divided into three sections according to the subject: nature, history, folk art. Ivano-Frankivsk Art Museum. It is located in the Renaissance building of Collegial Roman Catholic church of the XVII century. This museum is a real treasure of Fine Arts and folk arts of the land. Its collection numbers over 15 thousand pieces. Y. Kobrynskyi Museum of Hutsul and Pokuttia Folk Art in Kolomyia is one of the largest and famous ethnographic museums not only in Ukraine, but all over Europe and the world. NATURAL RESERVES There is Carpathian Natural National Park at the territory of Ivano-Frankivsk region. Carpathian mountain system, along with Alps and Balkans, is characterised by the broadest biological diversity at the European continent. The territory was extended several times for its thirty-year history. Currently almost 2.5 percent of the territory is conserved by the Reserve, which is incorporated into the international network of UNESCO biosphere reserves since 1992. Carpathian Biosphere Reserve (KBR) with the total area 57,880 ha numbers six separated tracts as well as regional landscape park "Stuzhytsia" and state botanic reserves "Chorna Hora" and "Yulivska Hora". The reserve conserves over 1000 species of vascular plant, 64 species of mammals, 173 species of birds, 9 species of reptiles, 13 species of amphibian, 23 species of fish, over 10000 species of invertebrates. You can find here the best conserved Carpathian ecosystems being a shelter for many rare and vanishing species of plants and animals. 64 species of plants 72 species of animals of the Reserve are recorded in the Red Book of International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and Ukraine, as well to the European Red list. The region is also reach in local and republican reserve objects, state natural memorials, state wildlife preserves. They include Maniavskyi Skyt, Sokil Tract, Mshana Bog, Sadky, Bredulets Closed Wood, Dovbush Rocks etc. All the above-mentioned create unique identity of nature of Ivano-Frankivsk region, making the land attractive for research and conservation. SANATORIUMS 782 health improving and recreation centres for children, 15 sanatoriums and boarding houses with treatment, 6 sanatorium-preventoriums, 6 recreation centres and other recreation establishments are available in the region. The most famous sanatorium is: • Recreation Bukovel SPA-centre. The establishment is equipped with modern medical and diagnostic hardware. Modern radiography equipment, ultrasonic scanning, all massage types, manual therapy,acupuncture, balneology and the best professionals are the most valuable assets of "Bukovel touristic complex". Since this year people with musculoskeletal system, gastrointestinal tract and urinary tracts diseases can be treated and reconditioned in "Bukovel". Moreover, every person interested can take cosmetology Wellness and SPA-procedures (body care programs), contributing to improving of systemic condition, appearance; and the most important thing is improving of general state and good mood.
