BJ Nichols, President Vladimir Dzeletovic, Watch Director Baselworld show (circa 2014) Every spring we travel to Geneva and Basel, Switzerland for the largest industry watch shows in existence – SIHH and Baselworld. It’s a lot of excitement, incentives and comraderie packed into two days. It started, years ago, as just a simple gathering of watch enthusiasts interested to hear what we learned at the show. Then, our Swiss watch brand representatives joined in the conversations. They traveled to our little store in Indy and brought big collections of their watches to show off. It caught on. More reps came. And more. Fast forward, nearly twenty years later, and our little store isn’t so little anymore. Nor is our watch event. It’s one of the largest of its kind in the country! A lot of excitement, incentives and most importantly – fun – packed into two days. We hope you will join us.

Portugieser Annual Calendar. Ref. 5035: It took Portugal’s ocean-going heroes centuries to become legends; IWC’s Portugieser took just 75 years. For it is that long since the appearance of the first IWC Portugieser with a pocket watch movement marked the beginning of a new legendary era. And that revolutionary step forward is still mirrored today in the IWCmanufactured 52850 calibre. The fact that innovative new te chnology no longer

S tand i n g the T est o f T i me …

When Vladimir, Reis-Nichols Jewelers’ Watch Director, was asked what new trends he is excited about, he simply replied, “classic styling.” Classic styles do endure, but for a guy who is always on the cutting edge of fashion, trends and timepieces, his answer was surprising. Vlad went on to point out these few examples...

“This Patek Philippe style is from the early 1900s – looked great then and it still will in another 100 years.”

“Look at the Royal Oak (Audemars Piguet) it was introduced in 1972 and the style is still their best seller.”

“This is my pick for a future classic, I love the sharp but simplistic style of this newer Cartier – they didn’t overdo it.”

“Panerai introduced this style in World War II. Many military styles are classic.”

Watch M ovement G u i de With the proper care & maintenance, a fine Swiss watch can be enjoyed for a lifetime. To ensure proper operation, be aware of how to properly set, wind & care for the various timepiece movements.

Q uart z

Battery Powered Battery - Batteries should last up to two years. If you need a battery replacement, please attend to it immediately as a dead cell can harm the movement. If you own a water resistant model, all gaskets should be replaced & water resistance tested to proper depth. Maintenance - To ensure reliable performance, your watch should be serviced when issues arise within 1 year of a cell change such as erratic timekeeping, stops during calendar change or stops and starts. Water Resistance - Seals should be checked every year to ensure integrity of water resistance. If a diving model, water resistance should be checked before each diving session.

Mechanical

Selfwinding/Automatic It’s not uncommon for automatic watches to require winding after an extended period of time at rest. In order to maintain the desired level of performance, please wind the crown 40-50 times before wearing. Maintenance - To ensure reliable performance, your watch should be serviced every three to five years.

Mechanical Manual Wind

If you have a manual wind watch, try to wind it at the same time every day. Winding it in the morning is best because you will have consistent power throughout the day. This may also contribute to more accurate timekeeping. When the watch is fully wound, you will feel resistance as the mainspring tightens. When the crown stops, that’s enough winding. Do not try to force it any further, you could damage both the mainspring & components in the escapement. When winding a manual wind watch, it is advisable to take off the watch. If you keep the watch on while you wind it, you may put unnecessary strain on the winding stem at all points, but particularly where the stem attaches to the winding crown.
