The Port of Kalundborg presents new port area with 15 metres of water depth at the quay

The New West Port

The New West Port has 330,000 square metres at the entrance to the Baltic Sea at its disposal The New West Port is the Port of Kalundborg's new port area, which is placed at the Southern side of Kalundborg Fjord, right next to Asnæsværket, a power plant belonging to the Danish energy company Ørsted. The port has vacant areas here, which can be rented out in big or small plots depending on the need. The areas can be rented out on a short or long term basis. Out of the total area, 50,000 square metres will be used for Kalundborg Container Terminal, while 25,000 square metres will be used for the quay road, and access roads etc. will take up another 18,000 square metres. This leaves 237,000 square metres reserved for companies needing space in the port.

Port calls Water depth: 15 metres at the quay. The tidal range is 30 centimetres only.

Turning basin: Port calls will be done via a turning basin with a width of 330 metres. The water depth in the turning basin is 15 metres. Outside the turning basin, the navigation channel and the area next to the quay, the water depth is 11 metres. Tug boat: For most ships a tug boat is not necessary.

Plot ratio and building heights Plot ratio: The plot ratio can be up to 50 percent, apart from a speci c area to the South of the New West Port, where the plot ratio is allowed to be up to 60 percent. Building heights: 30 metres, apart from a speci c area to the South of the New West Port, where the building height can be up to 38 metres (this applies for three high tanks). Chimneys are not included in the restriction of the building height, but can be built in the height according to the demand of the environmental authorities.

Facilities Quay road: Length: 500 metres, width: 50 metres, elevation of capping beam: 3 metres. Permissible surface load on the quay road is 40 kN/m². Fenders: Fenders per 15 metres along the quay. Bollards: 150 t per 15 meter along the quay. Water supply: 6 water hydrants along the quay (120 m³/h). Waste water: 2 waste water spigots (72 m³/h, 500 m³/ship) Quay plugs: 125 A per 45 metres along the quay.

Cranes There will always be two mobile cranes at the New West Port, one of which will be of the type Gottwald, with a lifting capacity of 100 tonnes at 24 metres extension and 38 tonnes at 50 metres extension.

Security The New West Port is approved according to the regulation for maritime security, ISPS. A fence is set up around the whole port area, and there is electronic access control at the gate. The port area is under camera surveillance.

Access road On land, a new access road to the new port area is established as a continuation of the existing Asnæsvej. There is a direct connection to route 23 towards the Holbæk motorway to Copenhagen. From Kalundborg, it takes approximately one hour to go to Copenhagen by car. To the south, there is a direct connection to route 22 to Slagelse, from where there is direct access to the E20 motorway to Jutland and Northern Germany as well as road

connections to Gedser at Falster and further in that direction to Northern Germany, Central and Eastern Europe.

The surroundings The New West Port is placed outside the town, which means that no private dwellings are nearby. The nearest neighbours are thus the power plant, Asnæsværket, belonging to Ørsted, and Equinor's oil re nery. The port's location means speci cally that noise from production sites etc. will not be a problem. Calculations have shown that noise from the New West Port when operations are at a maximum will not reach more than 40 dB in the dwelling areas on the other side of Kalundborg Fjord. A production site may, therefore, also be in operation at night.
