1. Online Digital Content Creation for All Disciplines. Digital content is re-shaping entertainment, changing the way we create, share and experience. We believe in an education that not only informs students about the future, but actually prepares them to thrive in it. In all of our workshops, you’ll create short-form, original content. You’ll learn how to conceptualize, construct and market your projects to the world. You won’t just have a school project reel; you’ll have an industry-level digital portfolio. You define your own brand. You create your own channel. 2. Studio Partnership/Industry Access. What does a partnership with a major Hollywood studio mean? It means access and opportunities for students like neverbefore. You’ll get to visit the studio and learn firsthand from the people behind it. In addition to special events & guest speakers, you’ll be immersed in the larger entertainment network of Relativity, an invaluable tool to spotlight your projects and develop as a creative professional. 3. Workshops Taught by Leading Hollywood Professionals. Our instructors are more than just educators; they’re accomplished working filmmakers, actors, dancers, producers, and more with a passion for what they do. They’ll be an invaluable resource to you creatively, as well as providing their insights on the industry.
The professors, staff, even the admin people are brilliant, I don’t think I’ve met a group of people yet that have been and driven, motivated and passionate as the guys in this school. They know their stuff, they know how to help and they do. They go out of their way all the time.

4. Team & Mentor Approach. You won’t be thrown in and expected to figure it all out on your own. We focus on each student’s needs. We adapt to different personalities and creative goals in order to offer support with the right mentors and teachers. Collaboration is a key element in all of our programs. You’ll get to work with a variety of different groups, learning the dynamics of creative teamwork. You’ll inspire others and they’ll be inspired by you. 5. Collaboration Labs Built Into Curriculum/ Schedule. Today’s Hollywood is about teamwork across disciplines. Therefore at the core of all of our Workshops is a collaborative approach where film makers, performing artists and Electronic Music students will work together to create original short-form content.
CURRICULUM and SCHEDULE Curriculum for all programs is designed to introduce a technique or skill and then immediately apply it—a fun way to move quickly towards a desired result. Every Wednesday afternoon, students are exposed to an industry master class taught by some of the experts in the field, with opportunity for interactive dialogue on a Q&A session at the end. An optional evening event each week gives everyone at Relativity Workshops the chance to meet the amazing people in other disciplines and can range from movie screenings and game nights to water parks and dances.
WEEK ONE Ready, set, launch! You will begin the week with a tour of the campus and available sets and backlots, meet the staff and chart your course in a goal setting workshop, all before lunch. Before the end of your first day, you will be learning and practicing introduction skills on your chosen area of study.

By the end of your first week, you will have completed a short solo project before spending Friday afternoon in our Collaboration Lab, where you will work with mentors and peers to learn how to work together in ways you never imagined possible.
WEEK TWO Finding your vision Continued course modules become more advanced and build upon fundamentals learned during the first week. With the help of a professional mentor, students will work in teams on their second project, rotating in various positions or roles. Our industry master class and special event for the week will be tailored to current trends, topics and surprise guests! Friday features an entire morning spent on getting your work “out there” for others to enjoy while learning about social media, online channels and building an audience. You will also learn how to package your work, creativity and ideas in a fun afternoon Collaboration Lab with participants from all programs.
WEEK THREE Go team!
The final week is built around program-specific group projects. Under guided mentorship, each student contributes in a role based on their chosen concentration— our directors, screenwriters, producers, dancers, actors and music masterminds all come together to apply the concepts learned on the previous weeks. Teams are formed and collaborative project ideas are transformed into an action plan to discover how to weave it all together. What do you get when you put and actor, a dancer, a film director, an EDM artist and a video blogger in a room with a camera, an idea and an industry mentor? We can’t even begin to imagine, but anything is possible with integrated teamwork, positive energy, and talent.

FILM Production
Concept. Preparation. Craft. Innovation.
Our hallmark summer Film Production Programs are offered at our three campuses: Los Angeles, New York and Maui and offer the option of three concentrations: Directing, Producing and Screenwriting. With a Team & Mentor approach to hands-on learning, our students work with industry professionals at a working Hollywood production studio to create professional short-form digital content for portfolios, websites and social media platforms. Students learn how to translate their concept and ideas into visual storytelling while learning craft essentials for film production. Working with actors, set etiquette and planning the shoot are highlights of our programs. Selected works are seen by Hollywood influencers and promoted through studio channels. With a curriculum created in partnership with a top Hollywood studio, our three-week Film Production programs focus on the fundamentals of the craft with classes on story structure, lighting, operating the camera, editing and uploading high-definition short films to your personal website, web channels or social media sites.
Directing The director holds a film’s artistic and dramatic vision, and makes decisions on how to tell a story visually. Our Directing students learn to work with and behind the camera, while collaborating with actors and other professionals and learn the basics of editing on Adobe Premiere software. The Directing Program is available in Los Angeles, New York and Maui.
Producing From securing the rights to raising the funds, the producer makes a film happen. Students first learn the basics of filmmaking to later move to producing specific courses on budgeting, securing locations, permiting, pitching, fundraising, and the essentials of building a production book. The Producing Program is available in Los Angeles.
Screenwriting A good script with a solid structure is key to any good movie. Our Screenwriting students are trained to think visually by learning the basics of filmmaking, before working specifically on writing s hort screenplays in Writing Labs. They also learn to write treatments, to develop material from improvisation, and to communicate their ideas to directors. The Screenwriting Program is available in Los Angeles.
ACTING for the camera Our three-week Acting for the Camera Program introduces students to a fundamental approach to the major tenants of living truthfully under imaginary circumstances. With this solid foundation, students will work in front of the camera from day one and to adapt their performances for the screen. Our acting classes are designed to build and reinforce solid technique, with emphasis on developing honesty, believability, commitment, and camera savvy. Students act in front of the camera every day, building confidence and gaining an increased understanding of movie making and storytelling, and have classes in acting techniques, improvisation, voice and movement and audition techniques. Considerable practical on-set time is alotted to put theory into practice and work on student film projects. Our Acting students are a key part of all final collaborative projects. Our master acting teacher is Lee Michael Cohn, co-author of the bestselling book The Practical Handbook for the Actor, the definitive book on the Practical Aesthetics technique, co-created with David Mamet and William H. Macy. In his introduction, Mamet says, “This is the best book on acting written in twenty years.” All of our acting teachers are veteran professionals working on film and television in Hollywood and around the world. Many hold MFAs in Acting from leading programs across the country. Three-week programs are offered at our Los Angeles, New York and Maui campuses.
“
I went from being very shy and timid to being able to express myself... I learned that I am enough, that’s what one of my teachers told me, that I am enough, to just perform however I want and to walk into an (audition) room and feel that “I am what you want.”

Relativity Workshops Student Cast in Major Feature Film Blackbird Alum Allen Kunkle has been cast in Blackbird, the latest film from writer and director Gina Prince-Bythewood. Gina’s previous work includes The Secret Life of Bees and Love & Basketball. The film tells the story of a hot new artist headed to the top who falls for a young police officer. Stars include Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Nate Parker and Danny Glover. Allen’s connection with Relativity Wokrshops helped him land the part of the an American tourist in a karaoke bar during a scene taking place in Mexico. Comments Allen on the shoot: “Blackbird was the perfect introduction into the filmmaking business. The cast and crew were an amazing group of professionals, who truly seemed to have become a family over the course of filming. I was most surprised at how welcoming and helpful everyone was. It was a great opportunity to put what I learned at Relativity Workshops to work.”
MUSICAL theatre With a curriculum created in partnership with a top Hollywood studio and Broadway’s top coach, VP Boyle, our innovative three-week musical theater workshop immerses students in dance, voice, and musical theater performance combined with a very filmic approach to acting. Master classes in contemporary musical theater, comedy and pop/rock mavy be the most fun you ever had in a workshop and will change how you think about musical storytelling. Good acting is essential to the craft, so our Musical Theater students take many of the same classes as our Acting Program participants, to build and reinforce solid technique, honesty, believability, commitment, and camera savvy. Jazz, Theater Dance, Tap, Ballet and learning original choreography from guest Broadway veterans are some of the ways our students are exposed to dance. Collaboration Lab projects include a professionally shot musical theater audition clip, an original scene developed with student filmmakers and a interdisciplinary short film group project guided by industry professionals. Three-week programs are offered at our Los Angeles and New York campuses. Please note: a singing audition is required for this program and can be done in person or by uploaded video with your application.
