Teeth Brushing B

rushing teeth should begin at an early age, around 2 years. Even before a child actually has teeth, it is important to perform mouth care. Using a damp washcloth or piece of gauze, gently rub it over your infant’s gums to help clean the mouth. A soft toothbrush, wet with water, may be used after your infant has developed some teeth. The single best way to remove harmful plaque - a thin, sticky film of bacteria - from teeth and gums is to brush teeth and floss regularly and properly. What is the Proper Technique for Teeth Brushing? Because every mouth is different, there is more than one technique of brushing that has proven to be effective. Generally however, most dentists recommend a circular technique for brushing. This includes brushing only a small group of teeth at a time and gradually covering the entire mouth. The importance of maintaining a circular or elliptical motion is emphasized. Avoid a back and forth motion because it is harmful for your teeth and may cause the following: a) a deteriorating gum surface b) an exposed and tender root surface c) a wearing down of the enamel at the gum line Dentists Recommend Rotating Method: 10

Step 1: Place the toothbrush beside the teeth not vertical but at a 45-degree angle. Step 2: Gently brush teeth and always in only a small group of teeth at a time (in a circular or elliptical motion) until the entire mouth is treated. Step 3: Brush the outside of the teeth, inside of the teeth, the chewing surfaces, and in between each tooth. Step 4: Gently brush the tongue to remove bacteria and freshen breath. Step 5: Establish a routine. This is important in order to avoid missing areas that should be cleaned. Step 6: Repeat steps one through four at least twice daily, especially after meals and snacks.

Generally, brushing is recommended twice a day for at least three minutes each time. People generally think they are brushing long enough, when, in fact, most people spend less than one minute brushing. It is generally better to brush three minutes, twice a day, instead of brushing quickly five or more times throughout the day. It is also recommended to brush your teeth during the day while at work, school, or play. Keeping a toothbrush handy - in your desk or backpack - increases the chances that you will brush during the day. If you cannot brush, rinsing with water several times or using mouth wash liquid will be beneficial. We wish you healthy and shiny teeth. Colon Cleaning May Help Acne Sufferers M

any doctors and alternative medicine practitioners believe that one essential component of achieving overall bodily health is having a colon that is clean and free of the toxins that can build up over time. Why Thai Babies Don’t Cry – Part II Prof. Marie-Therese Claes Ph.D.

In

the previous edition of RELAX, we looked at one of the reasons Thai babies don’t cry, compared to western babies, and explained how babies are taken care of differently in western tradition compared to Thai tradition. In this issue, let’s look at another cultural difference that explains why Thai babies don’t cry. Of course, babies will cry when they are uncomfortable, for instance when they are hungry. In western tradition, feeding time is based on the clock. If the baby starts crying before feeding time, it will have to wait: “Let her cry, it is not time yet.” Thai babies will be fed as soon as they start crying. If a child in a western

family says: “Mummy, I am hungry”, the mother will look at the clock: “Well, we are going to have lunch in half an hour. You can wait until then.” That is part of their education. And if the child is not hungry at mealtimes, the parents will force it to eat. Is it any wonder when that westerners live by the clock, that time is so important? Thais eat when they are hungry, but usually small meals. A westerner has to wait for “meal-times”, builds up an appetite, and then overeats. A western stomach extends because of big meals, the heart and all the organs suffer from exertion during digestion of too much food. Thais eat small meals several times a day, and do not overeat. Let us just hope they keep their healthy habits.

I once read that Japanese children are treated like princes until they go to school, which gives them huge selfconfidence for the rest of their lives. In the western world, children are tested from the start. Thai babies are quiet, happy, contented. How To Eat For A Better Shape A

few simple steps in a day will get you on your way to a thinner body; - at least it worked for me, and all you need is some self discipline! When you wake up, eat breakfast. Doesn’t matter what it is, it could be eggs, cereal, an omelet, anything as long as you eat a good breakfast. Then until about the middle of the day, drink nothing but water and lots of it! Drink water as though your doctor just told you that you have to clean yourself out for surgery and you have ‘gotta’ drink lots of water! In the early afternoon, eat a big lunch, consisting of mainly a sandwich and some fresh fruits or vegetables. Doesn’t matter what the sandwich is made of, you can still eat it, and you can use dipping sauce for the ‘freshies’ too! After that, try not to sit around on a computer. Do everything you can in your power to walk around and be active. It helps your body take in your snack lunch. When you’re hungry again, eat a healthy snack. This sounds really

repetitive, but it does really work if you stick with it, find a fruit or veggie you like, and try them with sauces! In the early evening, get some exercise. It sounds scary, but it can be as simple as walking your dog, walking to the store, cleaning your house really well. The best part about walking to a 7/11 or similar is that you can get a snack or your favourite drink! At night, you should try your best to sleep, and not to take food with you. If it’s after midnight and you can’t sleep, use a relaxation tape not only to get your body in the mood to sleep, but to relax and calm yourself, so you will slip into a deep sleep.

Six Steps to Living Long and Staying Healthy Step 1: Give your body the energy it needs. Your body needs certain foods to stay strong and healthy. Other foods, if eaten too often, contribute to many illnesses. Being sleepy reduces your concentration, increases mood swings, and causes many car accidents. ●● Get help if you feel depressed or anxious for more than a few days at a time. Talk with a friend or your health care provider for some help.

he Relax team was invited to visit the newly opened eforea (rhymes with euphoria) spa at the Hilton, above the Central Festival Pattaya Beach complex.
