EXHIBITING MASTERS
BRIEF. PRESENTING MASTER LEVEL DESIGN WORK TO THE PUBLIC IS A CHALLENGE, PARTICULARLY IN THE CONTEXT OF A GRADUATION SHOW, WHICH HAS MANY PROJECTS COMPETING FOR ATTENTION. At Design Academy Eindhoven graduation shows the audience is sometimes left wondering about the meaning of a thesis project, and also the added value of a thesis project in relation to bachelor level work. This proposal attempts to spell out a new way of treating Master thesis projects in the DAE graduation show, one which would give the Masters a distinct identity. Our proposals focus on the descriptive exhibition text, take-away posters, video presentations, thesis uploads on issuu.com, on-line publications on lulu. com and a new website.
EXHIBITION TEXT. A BRIEF OVERALL EXHIBITION TEXT COULD BE WRITTEN BY AN OUTSIDER. This small intervention would highlight some emerging themes and the common and distinct approaches of the graduates for each department. This would be a self-reflection for the department, which would give meaning to the students and the audience.

TAKE-AWAY POSTER.THE ESSENCE OF EACH THESIS PROJECT COULD BE CAPTURED IN ONE LINE OF TEXT WHICH WOULD APPEAR ON A POSTER. IThe other side of the poster is left free for each student to graphically and textually present their project. The posters would be prominently displayed in the exhibition and would be available as a folded take-away.
VIDEO PRESENTATIONS. A SELECTION OF SUCCESSFUL ORAL PRESENTATIONS BY STUDENTS WOULD BE VIEWABLE AT THE EXHIBITION WITH SCREENS AND HEADPHONES. This would help the visitors in understanding the meanings of the projects and allow them to go into more detail in the works they are more interested in.
ON-LINE BROWSING. A SELECTION OF WRITTEN THESIS PROJECTS WOULD BE UPLOADED ON ISSUU, AN ON-LINE BOOK PUBLISHING SERVICE. Students can use this as a marketing tool in order to promote their thesis in a professional way. This also enables future students to consult and reference past projects
ON-DEMAND PUBLICATION. A PUBLICATION OF MASTER PROJECTS INCLUDING SELECT EXPERIMENTS, FINAL DESIGNS AND ELEMENTS OF THE THESIS. This could be compiled in a publication and made available worldwide through printing on-demand service such as Lulu.com.
This system doesn’t involve any fixed costs while spreading the methodology and outcomes of the master programs
WEBSITE. A WORDPRESS WEBSITE WOULD PRESENT THE WORK OF EACH STUDENT, INCORPORATING FINAL DESIGN IMAGES, THE VIDEO PRESENTATION AND THE THESIS. The on-demand publication, along with Source publications would be available for purchase and review from this site. Such a platform would be useful forcurrent graduating and future students and as a comprehensive reference for the press.
