Colombia is a country in consistent development that continually astonishes, thanks to the offerings and benefits it gives to its inhabitants and visitors.

Its geographical diversity is peerless; Andean mountains, Amazon rainforest, Caribbean and Pacific beaches, archeological sites, colonial and emerging modern cities. Needless to say, it is this impressive diversity that inspires tourists from all over the globe to come and visit; and additionally compels Colombians to feel enormously proud of their country.

Colombia holds claim to 10% of the world’s biodiversity, as if this is not remarkable enough, 18% of Colombia’s birds, amphibians, mammals, reptiles and fish are not found anywhere else on the planet. However, Colombia does not just boast biological talents it also devotes itself as an epicenter of cultures hosting 40 festivals and carnivals across, the whole country throughout the year. Through its unique history it has blended Spanish, Indigenous and African customs to create one of the most diverse artistic, musical, gastronomical and cultural scenes in the world.

Colombian people are warm and wholeheartedly receptive and welcoming to each other and new comers. They are extremely hardworking and amalgamated on continuing Colombia’s development and recognition. The Spanish spoken here is widely reported to be precise and easy to understand. This has paved way for Colombia to become an ideal place to learn, develop and harness the Spanish language. In an agreement between various governmental affiliations the campaign “Colombia Challenge Your Knowledge” was established in order to promote the quality of Colombian higher education, and disseminate research, academic and outreach programs abroad to strengthen the internationalization of universities in Colombia. www.challengeyourknowledge.edu.co


Medellin

Both EIA’s campuses are located in Colombia’s second largest city and entrepreneurial capital; Medellin. Located in the heart of a valley and surrounded by breathtaking mountains, Medellin has started to receive frequent positive recognition from the world’s media as an alluring and embryonic metropolitan.

Medellin is now recognized as one of the safest cities in Colombia and Latin America. Furthermore, Medellin won the Urban Land Institute “Most Innovative City of 2012" award for its transportation, cultural and social improvements and lowering of C0² emissions.

Via a weighted regional enthusiasm on economic, development, educational and entrepreneurial policies, Medellin has completely refined itself in areas of finance, services, politics, culture, fashion, and entertainment industries. This has not only provided opportunities for leisure and tourism but transformed Medellin into a magnet for international conferences and events bringing together businesses, people and organizations throughout the world.

Medellin offers a high caliber of public transportation options; Metro, Metrocable, a diverse bus system called the MetroPlus and even bike-share programs linking inhabitants not only between their places of work and their homes but also to the diverse number of: libraries, museums, art galleries, parks, bars, restaurants, cinemas and shopping centers.

Studying at EIA

The Antioquia School of Engineering (EIA) was founded in 1978 as an institution with ideals based on respect, responsibility and solidarity in order to train competent professionals committed to regional, national and global development. As an academic community the EIA focuses on: In March 2010, the Colombian Minister of Education and the CNA (National Accreditation Board) awarded the EIA with Institutional High Quality Accreditation. The EIA became the 18th university in Colombia to obtain this certification among 288 higher education institutions in the country. The EIA's vision is to be one of the best engineering universities in Colombia, recognized nationally and internationally for the quality of engineers and professionals it produces and additionally recognized for its applied research results and their subsequent effect and contribution to society.

The EIA currently offers eight specializations and four Masters of Science.

Language and culture courses in the EIA Within the EIA’s Zuñiga campus, various language and cultural courses are available. A variety of Spanish for foreigners courses with options that cater for all different abilities are offered. Students have the option to participate in a cultural or research oriented immersion in Spanish over a period of time that matches their desired schedule. All courses are taught in accordance to the Common European Framework. Participants will additionally be assigned a conversation partner to practice Spanish after class.

Beginners to advanced English, BULATS, TOEFL and GMAT exam preparation courses are also available. For culture enthusiasts, art and drawing courses are also organized according to demand.

EIA Research

Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The EIA research system has thus incorporated a system of development and technology transfer, and entrepreneurship to contribute to society’s development.

The EIA innovation department works to boost relations between research groups, companies and other agents in science, technology and innovation fields to bring research findings and results to the market and society. It also fosters entrepreneurship attitude and the development of entrepreneurial projects that aim to generate a national social and economic impact.

Within the EIA, research is seen as an indispensable mechanism to meet constant changes and society’s elevated demand on higher educational institutions. As such, the EIA aims to contribute towards innovation processes and increase national competitiveness.

The EIA undergraduate and postgraduate programs interact directly with the different research teams to generate innovation and enhance academic knowledge.

TRANSVERSAL AREAS

The Campus BT Program has been launched to encompass this strategy.

Campus BT Combines the strengthening of high-impact entrepreneurial skills with projects involving the creation and development of technology based companies. The proficient and qualified instructors, carefully selected for their ability, experience and attitude, are dedicated to help the participating students lead business projects in independent or large companies.

How to apply

To apply to the EIA an inscription form (available from our website www.eia.edu.co) needs to be filled and sent to the international office (asirelinter@eia.edu.co); a scanned version of the following documents must also be included. Copy of Passport Course transcripts including currently enrolled subjects Cover letter Presentation letter from current university Spanish language certification through the Diploma of Spanish as a Foreign Language (DELE) or letter of recommendation from professor The applicant is required to have passed their first year of study at the time of application, be an active student and not be under any disciplinary charges.
