Pecoraro has brought to RE/MAX Achievers not only her own sales team, which now includes seven other agents and her personal assistant, but also several other of her former Coldwell Banker colleagues. As a result, RE/MAX Achievers quickly grew from 14 to 23 affiliated brokers, and Pecoraro expects that number to increase further in the weeks ahead. Her objective is to pursue two broad goals. The first is to give RE/MAX Achievers the right atmosphere. “Lombard is in many ways a small town, and I want this office to deliver caring, personalized service so that is has that small-town feel,” Pecoraro said.

Amy and Mike Pecoraro Take Reins at RE/MAX Achievers in Lombard RE/MAX Achievers in Lombard, Ill., has been acquired by Amy and Michael Pecoraro. The office, located at 123 W. St. Charles Road, has long been a fixture in Lombard, and so has Amy, its new managing broker. She is a respected and successful local real estate broker with 24 years of professional experience who has been part of the community for her entire life. Pecoraro grew up in Lombard and settled there with Mike, who was from nearby Villa Park, Ill., as they raised their five children. Her decision to move to RE/MAX developed after Coldwell Banker closed its Lombard office. “I wanted to stay in Lombard, and when the opportunity arose to acquire RE/MAX Achievers, it seemed like the obvious choice,” she said.

“The RE/MAX brand is highly respected in this market, and it will allow me to create the kind of real estate brokerage that both Realtors® and their clients will find conducive.”

Her other goal is to make sure that from a business perspective, RE/MAX Achievers offers an industryleading working environment in four key areas. “We want to offer our brokers the best in market materials and support, the most competitive pay scale, top quality training and a profit sharing plan to help secure their future,” Pecoraro explained. She noted that RE/MAX Achievers has a proud tradition in Lombard, and she looks forward to continuing it, especially its support of charitable efforts locally and nationally, including Children’s Miracle Network and the Susan B. Komen Foundation. Pecoraro admits that she’s a bit surprised to find herself leading a real estate brokerage. “My goal when I was younger was to be a math teacher, and I started selling real estate as strictly a part-time job to help our family finances, but I’ve really come to enjoy the work and the people, and now with RE/MAX Achievers I’ll have the opportunity to take that involvement to a new level in a community to which I feel very connected,” said Pecoraro. “It’s an exciting opportunity, and I’m thrilled to have it.” Mike Pecoraro, who works for United Airlines, is her partner but does not plan to be involved in the day-to-day operations of RE/MAX Achievers.

RE/MAX Hometown Properties Marks Grand Opening in Channahon RE/MAX Hometown Properties, located at 25445 Pheasant Lane, in Channahon, Ill., opened its doors for the first time on May 5 with a grand opening celebration. Channahon Mayor Missey Schumaker along with other local leaders joined Joe and Julie McElyea, owners of the new RE/MAX franchise, to mark the occasion with a ribbon cutting. The 1,200-square-foot office, near the intersection of U.S. Hwy. 6 and Ridge Road, is positioned to conveniently serve both Channahon and the neighboring community of Minooka. The office has been designed to create a casual café-style work environment that features couches and a fireplace. “We want this to be a comfortable place where our brokers and our clients will enjoy spending time,” said Julie McElyea, managing broker of RE/MAX Hometown Properties.

10

The McElyeas moved to Channahon three years ago and recently celebrated the birth of their fourth child, a baby boy named Walker. “Our goal is not only to sell real estate but to make a real contribution to this community,” said Joe McElyea. “It took us longer than we thought to get everything ready in our office space, but the results are great so far. Now, we’re ready to start recruiting the right group of brokers to join us. Our timing has been excellent because the local real estate market is exceptionally strong this spring.” Julie McElyea explained that while there is excellent demand for homes in the ChannahonMinooka market at this time, the supply of homes is fairly limited. As a result, home values are on the rise. “We’re working to expand the supply of homes available, both existing homes and new construction to meet that growing demand,” she said.

RE/MAX Deal Makers Opens Their Doors in Hampshire “The timing is excellent in regards to opening this office,” he noted. “The economy has strengthened, and here in Hampshire we’re starting to see new residential and commercial development move forward after a substantial period during which the market was essentially stagnant. With that as background, I’m convinced our community can benefit from the expertise and tools that RE/MAX has to offer.”

RE/MAX Deal Makers, the newest RE/MAX office in Kane County, has opened its doors at 113 W. Oak Knoll Dr. in Hampshire, Ill. Bruce Burklow, Jr., an experienced local developer and home builder, is at the helm as broker/ owner, assisted by his wife, Robbi. Burklow, 44, moved into the brokerage end of the real estate industry in 2012 after nearly two decades spent working in the development and home building business established by his father, Bruce Burklow, Sr. Those operations included G & B Homes Inc., which has built many homes in the Hampshire area. “Brokerage has turned out to be a great fit for me, and I’m excited about the prospect of bringing a RE/MAX office to the community where we live,” said Burklow, who was affiliated with the RE/MAX office in Marengo, Ill., before deciding to purchase his own RE/MAX franchise.

12

RE/MAX Deal Makers occupies a 2,300 square-foot office in a 30,000 - square-foot, three-building commercial complex that was developed by the Burklow family between 2003 and 2008. The new office already has a staff of four agents. Robbi Burklow will head the office’s administrative operations, having had similar responsibilities at G & B Homes. One advantage the Burklows will have from the start is the strong position RE/MAX already enjoys in the Hampshire/Pingree Grove market

“Being aligned with the dominant brand name in our local real estate market is a huge plus... whether through the worldwide RE/MAX network or through the outstanding tools RE/MAX offers, like our mobile app.”

area. In 2015, RE/MAX brokers led the local market, accounting for 21.7 percent of total sales according to the Midwest Real Estate Data MLS. “Being aligned with the dominant brand name in our local real estate market is a huge plus for our office and our agents,” said Burklow. “But the great thing is that the benefits of being part of RE/MAX extend much further, whether through the worldwide RE/MAX network or through the outstanding tools RE/MAX offers, like our mobile app, that makes the property search process easier for our agents and especially for their clients.”

As a long-time Hampshire resident, Burklow brings a wealth of local knowledge to his new venture. Not only are he and his wife familiar with the local real estate market, both have been active members of the community in which they have raised their three children. The Burklows were especially involved with the local school system, District 300, with Robbi Burklow serving as president of the local parent-teacher organization. They also participate in the Little Angels Pledge Run, an annual 80 mile motorcycle ride benefiting the Little Angels Center for Exceptional Care in Elgin, Ill.

RE/MAX Achievers’ Matt Pittman Turns to Music Videos to Promote Business After a brainstorming session with their guitarist, he took to making his first real estate rap video called ‘Sellin Homes’ in 2012 and later, another video called ‘Realtors’ in 2016 which have garnered over 37,000 views on YouTube.

One share of a funny mobile app that autotunes voices turned into a big idea for RE/MAX Achievers agent Matt Pittman in 2011, which has since led to a big boom of new business from his unique marketing style – real estate rap videos. “I sent an auto-tuned message to my broker/ owner at the time, Randy Stob…just being goofy about it and he told me I sounded like a real estate rap artist. All of a sudden it just clicked and I thought to myself that this could be a really great idea,” says Pittman. In addition to being an agent at the Lombard RE/MAX office, Pittman plays bass for musical group, The Fold, who has recorded songs for the Chicago Cubs and the television show based on LEGO’s Ninjago.

“I knew that it would potentially agitate some people, but that it would also invigorate the younger crowd which it really has. I’ve had at least 20 people tell me ‘I gotta use this guy’ after they have seen the video. It’s thinking outside of the box which has helped with clients that get my personality,” says Pittman. The Lombard agent says he doesn’t believe anyone should take themselves or their business too seriously, and if you can have a laugh with your clients it can go a long way. “Buying a home is one of the most stressful moments in a person’s life. If you can make them laugh and help them feel at ease throughout the process, I think that opens the door for a good working relationship,” says the RE/MAX Achievers agent.

RE/MAX Edge Makes Short Move to New North Lake View Location RE/MAX Edge recently made a short move to a new and larger office less than a block from its long-time location in the city’s North Lake View community. The new office at 3916 N. Broadway occupies a 3,800 square-foot space that accommodates 25 brokers and their support staff. The brokerage moved from its former space in the 3800 block of North Broadway on March 31 because the building in which it was located is being redeveloped and enlarged, according to Mark Zipperer, broker/owner of RE/MAX Edge, which he established in 2005. “We wanted to stay in this immediate area because so much is going on here right now in terms of new development,” he said. “It’s an

14

exciting environment for anyone in our business. It took a few weeks and lots of work, but we’re settled in now,” said Zipperer, who reports that he lost 10 pounds in the process without ever going to the gym and just in time for beach season. The new space incorporates many of the recent trends in office design. It includes 19 traditional private offices, so-called “hoteling” space for brokers who work primarily from a home office, and a blend of conference rooms, several being full sized while others are what Zipperer calls “huddle spaces” designed for two or three people to have private conversations. In addition, there’s a nap room in the basement, with couches and a TV where brokers can relax when they have down time without needing to leave the office.

Janice Corley Becomes Sole Owner of RE/MAX Premier Properties Janice Corley recently became sole owner of RE/MAX Premier Properties, 1205 N. Dearborn Pkwy., acquiring the ownership interest of her partner, Cynthia Bauer. Corley and Bauer established RE/MAX Premier Properties in 2011. Today the brokerage has 75 affiliated brokers, and its 2015 closed sales volume was in excess of $170 million. Corley has acted as managing partner of the brokerage, as well as the managing broker, since its founding. Bauer has been one of the leading sales producers in the office and will continue in that role. “Our focus from the beginning has been on growth at this location, and while that will continue to be a priority, we hope to establish a presence in other parts of Chicago,” Corley said. “A real estate brokerage is most effective when it has a physical presence in the communities it serves. I think that tradition has been lost to some extent in our industry because contemporary technology gives brokers the tools to work from home or from their cars or in a coffee shop. While that trend has benefits, it also has limitations. Agents who don’t see each

other in the office are less likely to collaborate, share information or participate in the training programs that a brokerage like ours provides. ” Corley noted that many leading real estate organizations have reduced the number of offices they have across the Chicago area. “We see opportunities in a number of areas that would seem to be underserved by the major real estate brands,” Corley said. “My goal for RE/MAX Premier Properties is to fill that void with one or two new offices in the relatively near future. By doing that, I think we will foster a more productive and efficient group of brokers, deliver better service to our customers and become more fully integrated into the markets we serve.” Her plan is to establish new offices by acquiring existing independent brokerages in the communities she is targeting. Bauer explained that her decision to sell her interest in the brokerage reflected a desire to devote her efforts more fully to selling real estate, the aspect of her career she enjoys most. “As an owner, you have to deal with a much broader range of responsibilities, and I thought that I’d like to simplify things. My relationship with Janice remains one of best friends, plus she is an outstanding manager. With our new arrangement, we’ll still be collaborating, and I’ll be able to focus on what I’m most passionate about,” Bauer said.

“A real estate brokerage is most effective when it has a physical presence in the communities it serves...”

Champlain Ave., 1528 N. 18

The team won the lion’s share of the Good Neighbor Awards in the multi-unit residential category, and has a strong track record of developing vacant land and dilapidated buildings into market leading properties. Steele pointed to 1806 S. Throop St., a Good Neighbor Award winner this year, as a trailblazer in the real estate market of Chicago’s Pilsen community. “The appraisers didn’t understand the value, but buyers felt it was worth it. They like our brand of integrity, innovative design and quality construction,” Steele said. “That’s how we help create a market turnaround. These trailblazing projects give other developers the courage to say, ‘If he could do it, then I can do that, too.’ ” Over the last five years, Steele Consulting has been involved in 35 projects that captured Good Neighbor Awards.
