The last Saturday of each month, volunteers collect donations at Van den Tweel supermarket from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items can be brought from home or bought at the market and dropped off on the way out. Their wish list includes staples such as cooking oil, milk and juice, nonperishable canned goods such as tinned meat, fish, fruits and vegetables, and household supplies such as toilet paper and laundry soap. Cash is also accepted, and used to purchase additional food and supplies. If you’d like to donate time, volunteers are needed in shifts to staff the table at the market once a month, and also to assist with packaging on the Monday following collection. Volunteers who speak Papiamento and Spanish are particularly needed. You can also donate funds directly via the group’s account at Girobank Bonaire, account #21101128. The legal end of the process is overseen by a governmental authority known as a Notaris, who functions as the title insurance company, supervises the deed transfer and handles the escrow funds.
