Drumhead Selection Guide
As the world’s leading drumhead specialist, REMO®, Inc. has developed an incredibly wide variety of drumheads. Not only is a full selection available to meet the diverse needs of contemporary drumset players, REMO® heads also bring advanced technologies and exceptional performance capabilities to the specialized needs of players in the marching, concert, and world percussion areas. Through the development of different drumhead designs, REMO® has been highly successful in refining and improving drumhead performance. In general, drumhead performance can be put into three main categories: sound (tone, color, pitch, sustain), feel (response, sensitivity) and presence (durability, tuning range). REMO® drumset drumhead types currently include; Clear, Coated, Smooth White™, Suede,® Renaissance,® Ebony,® and Fiberskyn® 3. REMO® World Percussion drumhead types currently include; Fiberskyn® 3 Nuskyn® and Skyndeep.® REMO® also has a variety of drumheads for Marching, Orchestral, and specialty applications. Each type, style and variety of head has its own tone, sustain and durability as rated in the performance profiles accompanying each head.
To further enhance performance levels, REMO® has also developed a variety of collar and hoop designs that provide optimum head response and vibration as well as easier mounting and tuning. These designs include curved, flat and low, medium, and high straight and angled collars as well as the proven technology of the original Weatherking®. REMO® advances, coupled with REMO®’s commitment to serving the worldwide drumming community, have vastly improved the quality, consistency and variety of available drumheads. The Black Suede™ Ambassador® heads are made with a proprietary textured single ply 10-mil Mylar® film to produce a warm, open and resonant sound with a warm attack. The Black Suede™ Emperor® heads are made with two free floating plies consisting of a 7.5-mil Ebony® film and a 7-mil clear bottom ply for improved sustain and volume. Black Suede™ drumheads are available in Emperor®-weight for batters as well as Ambassador®-weight for use as both batter and tom resonant heads.
