Dear Conexión Américas’ Friend, If this piece of paper made it to your hands, you are among a select group of Nashvillians whom we are so thrilled to invite to our first ever international study tour. Quite the step up from our well regarded Tour of Latino Nashville!
GENERAL ITINERARY Under the expert guidance —and witty commentary— of Dr. Eddie Wright-Rios, Vanderbilt’s cultural historian specializing in modern México, our itinerary will focus on two cities.
And why this trip? As we get ready to celebrate 15 years of building a welcoming community in 2017, one lesson is clear: there’s nothing more powerful than the personal encounter with the “other” in order to discover the universal story of humanity that binds us together. And we are convinced such moments and experiences are needed now more than ever.
First, we will explore México City and its historic architecture, dynamic gastronomy, and vibrant cultural scene. Then we will visit Puebla, one of México’s oldest cities known for its Spanish colonial architecture and where art and world renowned culinary traditions thrive at the foot of the Popocatepetl volcano.
Our México Study Tour has three primary goals:
In addition to visiting treasured spots and enjoying mouth-watering culinary feasts in the two cities, we will meet with public and private sector leaders engaged in US-México relations and immigration issues from both sides of the border.
1.
Deepen our understanding of México’s rich history and complex socio-economic and political realities
2. Gain greater appreciation for the interdependence between México and the US and its peoples 3.
Experience, first hand, the sounds, sights and tastes that thousands of new Nashvillians left behind
We hope you will join us in this journey! José González and Renata Soto Co-founders, Conexión Américas
