THE ART OF ARCHITECTURE
Frank Lloyd Wright (1867) American architect Frank Lloyd Wright is one of the two great designers behind the stunning architecture of the Guggenheim Museum in New York. Wright’s work is characterised by an often geometric design language combined with a heavy dose of inspiration from nature. In addition, Wright was influenced by traditional Japanese architecture, which is clearly visible here as well. The Guggenheim Museum project in New York started during WWII, and constitutes one of Wright’s last designs. Remarkably, the Guggenheim is the only design that deviates from Wright’s other architectural works in terms of style.
Hilla von Rebay (1890) Hilla von Rebay, founder of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, started the design of the Guggenheim Museum in New York in 1943. She picked the architect, Frank Lloyd Wright, herself. Despite the fact that she and Wright were jointly responsible for the design and initiation of the project, nether were able to attend its opening in 1959. Nonetheless, Von Rebay made it into the history books: in addition to designing this museum, she was one of only a few female abstract painters who contributed to the breakthrough of abstract art in the early 20 th century.

The artworks featured vary from European and American contemporary artists (pop-art) to renowned artists such as Picasso. The collection also includes many postimpressionist, modernist and surrealist works. In addition to its permanent collection which also includes a wonderful overview of 20 th century sculptural art, the Guggenheim New York hosts varying temporary exhibitions as well.

JETSURF PRO RACE
A surfboard-jet-skiwakeboard hybrid, the Jetsurf was developed by Formula One engineers to be piloted from an upright position, with your feet in straps and using a handheld control that cuts out if you fall off. It doesn’t rely on waves so you can use it when surf conditions are poor.

OYS FLYBOARD
If you are a denizen of the beach scene you problably have seen some seemingly crazy people flying through the air behind their waver runners – that’s Flyboarding! The Flyboard is akin to a flying wakeboard. Flyboarding is propelling above the lagoon with the help of water.
SEABREACHER S
The Seabreacher S, a semi-submersible toy, is specifically designed for yachts. Users sit inside the sealed cockpit of the whale, shark of dolphin shaped vehicle and use the easy-to-learn controls to flip, dive, jump and roll through the water.
WAKESKATING
Wakeskating is a combination of snowboarding, wakeboarding and skateboarding. Wakeskating is similar to wakeboarding, when you are pulled across the water by a boat, but wakeskaters do not bind themselves to the board. Instead, you rest your feed on a grippy foam top, allowing you to move your feet much like on a skateboard.

EXP12 SPEED 6E CONCEPT
130
Prepare for a glimpse of an exquisite yet truly sustainable future: the new Bentley EXP 12 Speed 6e concept car, characterised by an electric powertrain and groundbreaking design. Consider it the future of luxury. Consider it the future of performance. A New Vision for the Future Making its debut at the 2017 Geneva International Motor Show, the EXP 12 Speed 6e concept represents a bold statement on the future of electric cars – and of luxury mobility. Designed to transform the EV sector in both concept and execution, the EXP 12 Speed 6e fuses the unrivalled hand craftsmanship for which Bentley is famous, with electric performance, heart-stopping design and the range of a true grand tourer. The EXP 12 Speed 6e is a statement of Bentley’s intention to create the world’s first true luxury electric sports car – and an overt invitation for the public to feed back on Bentley’s vision for the road ahead.
131
132
Exterior Design The EXP 12 Speed 6e is not just an opportunity to envision an electric Bentley. It represents the future of Bentley design, both inside and out. The exterior body shell is a sleek expression of sports car design, inspired by contemporary architecture, aircraft fuselages and the geometry of the natural world.
A natural evolution of Bentley’s design DNA, it takes the marque’s trademark muscular haunch and powerline to exhilarating new heights. The short front overhang, long bonnet and wide, planted rear aspect all contribute to an unmistakable sense of speed, while the iconic matrix grille features an exquisite smoked stainless steel finish. Contrasting copper highlights offer subtle acknowledgement of the car’s status as a fully electric vehicle, while an illuminated ‘6’ logo can be seen through the grille. Throughout the car, form coexists with function to support a more sustainable future. The twin bonnet scoops, for example, double as heat sinks, keeping down the temperature of the car’s batteries and drivetrain, without the need for additional cooling technology.
133
134
Interior Design Bentley’s future is one of innovative materials as well as inventive technology. The entire central tunnel, for example, is hewn from a solid piece of glass, encompassing a highdefinition OLED curved display. All principle onboard controls are accessible from here, including navigation, entertainment and climate control. Just as they do on the outside of the car, copper details provide visual interest throughout the cabin, adorning the gear selector and Bentley Dynamic Drive dial control. Even the veneer panels inside the doors feature copper accents, drawing the eye to the handcrafted, natural wood finish. Tomorrow’s luxury customers will expect intuitive technology and traditional craftsmanship to be integrated seamlessly – a demand that has dictated much of the car’s groundbreaking design. The wing mirrors dispense with the usual reflective glass in favour of cameras, feeding visual input directly to the dash. It’s one more example of Bentley’s future design direction – and the company’s ongoing commitment to exceeding customer expectations in everything it does.

THE WORLD ’S B E S T S U P E R YA C H T BERTHS
01
Marina Grande, Capri, Italy The marina is nestled among striking cliffs and colorful, quaint buildings, offering something truly unforgettable. Unsurprisingly, the island has a special allure for the rich and famous with some of the world’s most luxurious yachts often congregating here for billionaires and celebrities to enjoy their vacations. Berthing will need to be arranged many months in advance here.
02
Marina di Porto Cervo, Sardinia, Italy During the summer, this is the place where the Italian jet set spend their vacations, sailing and enjoying the beautiful landscape and coves. The list of celebrities spotted in Porto Cervo, which is famous for its lavish parties and nightlife, is endless. The surrounding area includes a mix of unspoiled natural beauty and modern luxurious facilities such as high-end boutiques, and nightclubs.
03
Marina di Portofino, Genova, Italy With only 14 berths for superyachts, Marina di Portofino is one of the most, if not the most, discrete ports in the world. Again, due to the lack of berths, reservations will need to be made many months in advance, especially during peak season. Originally a small fishing village situated in a protected bay of green waters, Portofino has become the ultimate playground for the super-rich, including royalty and movie stars.
04
Ibiza Magna, Ibiza, Spain With only a limited amount of superyacht berths, Ibiza Magna in the Balearic Islands has a certain feeling of both luxury and exclusivity. While the allure of some marinas may be their scenery, surroundings and views, there’s no doubt that the main draw of visiting Ibiza Magna is the atmosphere. The marina is located just minutes away from the casinos, as well as the iconic nightclub, Pacha.
136
05
Puerto BanĂşs, Marbella, Spain Having firmly established itself as a hallmark location for luxury yachts, Puerto BanĂşs in Marbella is another must-visit place for owners, guests and crew alike. Its clientele includes some of the richest and most powerful people in the world, with reports indicating the King of Saudi Arabia visits regularly. The actual marina is overlooked protectively by the Sierra de Marbella mountain range, and enclosed in an arena of numerous shops, restaurants and luxury homes.
