Most of the research are taken from the internet, only small patches of this research is conducted taken from books and journals. No true sources for the researches done could be truly found. So none of the links are posted.

It all started by
CHOOSING A DESIGN ISSUE Having the issue of having that issue problems.
In the first start of this year, 10 different themes of the design issues were given as part of the brief. Out of the ten given briefs design issues that were given I have shortlisted the issues into four that were deemed most interesting by me. At least the chosen themes were issues that I feel I can pull off properly for the whole year.
I took into consideration of what i’ll try to achieve with the themes that I have chosen. I chose the issues based on the common interests that I have which is music, sreet art, music and culture. So I need to choose the theme that I could incorporate these interests of mine.

This design issue focuses on the natural beauty of my country Indonesia. Because there is a lack of good advertisement about the natural beauty of Indonesia. A lot of people locals and tourist alike does not have any knowledge on some of the most beautiful places in indonesia and some of them are just aroun their doorstep. So this design issue is to raise awareness on the beauty of indonesia and raise tourism and also raise awareness on the natural conservation of such national treasure

REBELS WITH A CAUSE Rebellion is suppose to be something that is very powerful and usefull if it is guided correctly. It could and has sparked some of the best changes that the world has seen. There are some reasons why people rebel. But the one this design issue focuses on is the state of rebellion on young people. Young people are rebel at hearts. No matter how smart or well mannered you are. The urge to rebels againts something is there. So with such passion to rebel againts something, why not use that passion to actually rebel with a cause. Why not rebel againts the goverment or do something about the environment. This issue is to get young rebels to voice out and get their opinions across.

A re-Introduction of traditional stories to suit the modern age Tackling the issue of preservation using a more fresh and new method of visual designs to raise interest towards the younger audience. So that the tradition of folklores and traditional visual art can be preserve through generations to come. Not only does it preserve the tradition but it would also entertain it’s viewers and thus leaving a more memorable visual impact.
Traditional stories or folklores, are something that Indonesians take pride in. There are dozens if not hundreds of different traditional folklores. It is sad that the younger generations does not seem to take interest in them.

Board games is something that brings the family and friends together. When you are in a cabin in the woods with no electricity it is board games that accompanies you through out the night. It is sad that not a lot of people or families spends time together playing board games anymore. With the rise of technology taking over the interest of young and old people alike. The boardgames are now locked away inside the cupboards of many houses. Since many of the traditional boardgames are hust flat boards. It is like a pice of canvas that can be edited and twisted into something that can be visually engaging. With mixing contemporary art with the board itself. Something can be achieved to get the more interest from the public.

DONT JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS NOISE If you listen to Metal you must be godless, if you listen to Hip Hop you must be a show off, if you listen to Mainstream music, you are boring. Punks, Headbangers, Squats, Gangbangers, hipsters, daredevils Tough guys, jocks, students, geeks, nerds, partygoers, potheads, rastafarians, mods and so on.

This is the ever growing problem of how young people are seperating themselves by the music genre which is very weird. People tend to create their own perception of a person just by looking through that person’s playlist or how they look. With the use of proper Informatic poster or a social campaign. This social problem could be somewhat tackled. Also raising awareness on how annoying and negative this habit is through the social campaign. Also this would give more information on sub-cultures that people seem to perceive as vandals and delinquits, which is somewhat not true.

INTRODUCTION
I chose rebels with a cause because i think that with such spirit and such passion in doing something. Why not use it for something that is good and productive. Using these rebellious spirit and the the use of posters stickers and other media that is considered vandalism. I will create a campaign where designers will create posters and such to use as propaganda to get the young rebels to act out something that is productive and contributive to society instead of just being aimlessly reckless in society.
INITIAL OUTCOME IDEAS
I will conduct research on the possible outcomes for this issue. Like posters, stickers, T-shirt and such. Also I will use iconic objects of rebellion on the posters and stickers to better communicate with the audience and get the attention of the rebels themselves.

Scientist have discovered that the youth brain develop and grow well into the teenage year. It has emerged that the emotional part of the brain actually grew faster than the part of the brain that controls rational thought. So teenagers have well developed emotions and feelings, but they still lack in rational thinking thus that is why there a lot of teens that rebels and do things without having a lot of thought before actually doin

The study “Risk-taking in Adolescence: New Perspectives from Brain and Behavioral Science,” published in Current Directions in Psychological Science, states that risk-taking and rebellious behaviors are linked to the development of logical-reasoning abilities in teenagers. Conducted by researcher Laurence Steinberg, the study states that the logical-reasoning abilities of teenagers tend to develop fully by age 15, but the psychosocial controls – emotion regulation, impulse control, resistance to peer influence, and delay of gratification – don't fully develop until age 25. This suggests that teenagers are almost hardwired to make more risky decisions and participate in behaviors their parents deem unacceptable. The area of the brain that regulates reward information and emotions becomes more sensitive during puberty, causing teens to spend less time analyzing the risks of a situation. So when a teenager runs a red light to make it to a friend's house a little early, it's probably because the lateral pre-frontal cortex, the brain area responsible for planning and analyzing risks, hasn’t become fully developed.

But the good news is as a teenager ages, he or she is more likely to examine the consequences of their actions before making a choice, leading to more successful choices in the long run. With that being said it will be best if parents and teen supervisors and what not just let them be them. But would it really work? With the lack of rational thinking and with emotions going rampant. Would they misuse freedom, are they capable of realizing and accepting responsibilities into their lives yet?

Of course such upsides happens to those who are smart enough to see themselves as a better person. Being rebellious does not mean losing your empathy and sympathy. Those rebels that actually found their identity through his experience being rebellious are actually receiving the benefits of being a rebel at one point in their live for now he is more open minded and is more idealistic than the rest of the bunch.
From rebellion to Revolution Since this issue is based on the upside of a rebellious attitude. I am depending on this positive attitude to be get the target audience to take in terest in this campaign. The SDS movement (Students For A Democratic Society) is a prime example of what good rebellion is. Students for a Democratic Society, the largest and most influential student organization of the ‘60s, was a uniquely American movement that grew and evolved in response to the times. At its peak in 1968, SDS had over 100,000 members and 400 chapters — but in 1960 there were just a few dozen members, inspired by the civil rights movement and initially concerned with equality, economic justice, peace, and participatory democracy. Then came the war in Vietnam, and SDS grew rapidly as young people protested the destruction being wrought by the US government and military. Although most activity focused on the war, SDS members were also involved in

At the same time, the government, led by the FBI, mounted a concerted effort to destroy SDS and the antiwar, civil rights, and women’s movements. The Cause of Crime
Juvenile Delinquets
Juvenile delinquency, also known as juvenile offending, or youth crime, is participation in illegal behavior by minors (juveniles) (individuals younger than the statutory age of majority). Most legal systems prescribe specific procedures for dealing with juveniles, such as juvenile detention centers, and courts. A juvenile delinquent is a person who is typically under the age of 18 and commits an act that otherwise would have been charged as a crime if they were an adult. Depending on the type and severity of the offense committed, it is possible for persons under 18 to be charged and tried as adults.
I looked into juvenile delinquency as for if teenage rebellion gets out of hand and out of control. Worst comes to worst it would lead to crime. This is the kind of thing that this issue aims to prevent. Because there are many places where rebellion is uncontrolled and un guided. These types of things may happen sooner or later. Thus this is why the issue existed.
Juvenile delinquency can be caused by peer pressure, the effects of the environment, or in many cases of rebellion. Out of boredom, but some of these so called ‘Petty crimes’ became more than just that. It exceeded the word petty and became harmful to society. Why do these things happen? is there a way to stop it?

Through the research conducted by Bandura, he found that human beings learn by imitating things that they see around themselves. In other words, children first observe how people around them behave, and then imitate them. For instance, if one of the child's parents show delinquent behavior like taking drugs or exhibiting violent behavior the child is likely to observe this and imitate the same behavior, without realizing that it is not correct. Sometimes, peers are also responsible for a child to learn delinquent behavior. During the teenage years, children spend more time with their friends rather than their family. In such circumstances, if the children are not given proper guidance, the influence of the peer group can give rise to delinquent behavior.
Children turn to criminal behavior when they are not able to reach goals through legitimate means. He was of the opinion that children born to poor families do not have the adequate means to achieve their goals like status, wealth, employment, etc. Hence, due to frustration, they try to achieve the same things through ways which are not approved by the society. Although this theory is logical to some extent, it cannot be accepted completely, because juvenile crimes cannot be restricted to children of the poor community.

PRESERVING TRADITIONAL FOLKLORES
As the world’s largest archipelago, Indonesia is home to hundreds of ethnic group with diverse languages and cultures. One of the heritages of the country is cerita rakyat or Folklores. For those who don’t know, cerita rakyat is a form of tale, folklore, legend or myth from the country Indonesia. Its origins are probably an oral culture of stories that explain events or establish moral lessons. Cerita rakyat is usually tied in with a province or region of Indonesia.
Folklore can contain religious or mythic elements, it equally concerns itself with the sometimes mundane traditions of everyday life. Folklorist William Bascom states that folklore has many cultural aspects, such as allowing for escape from societal consequences. In addition, folklore can also serve to validate a culture (romantic nationalism), as well as transmit a culture's morals and values. Folklore can also be the root of many cultural types of music.

Folklores to me is all about the place where anything can happen. Animals can talk right always beats wrong, and it makes real world so boring. Not only folklores are entertaining there is something good to learn from every story. There is always a moral to the story that is stuck with its readers. It does not matter whether the main character is a charming prince or a tricky little mouse deer. Folklores usually dwells into a certain theme or a genre that varies with every single story.

UNDERSTANDING TRADITIONAL INDONESIAN FOLKLORES History As in Indonesia, folklore has long been collected and studied by Japanese scholars, especially those in the humanities. The difference is that, in .Japan. folklore was from the outset collected by the Japanese themselves, while in Indonesia it was mostly collected by European scholars, especially Dutch, in the initial stage. While, beginning in 1910, and particularly since 1930, Japanese folklore materials were collected by Japanese folklorists, in Indonesia such was not the case, since folklore materials were collected by scholars in other disciplines, such as philologists, musicologists, cultural anthropologists, theologists (Catholics as well as Protestant), Dutch civil servants etc. [Danandjaja 1994b: 9-10J.
Culture and Tradition Most of Indonesian folklore started as oral tradition; being told by story teller or parents for generations within Indonesian villages. The story were often sung or chanted in several oral traditions such as pantun (rhythmic poetry), tembang, or children chants. Some are being performed in performing arts such as wayang (shadow puppet) and sendratari (dance drama). Indian Hindu-Buddhist epic also influenced Indonesian folklore, especially through wayang and dance drama in Java and Bali. Hindu epic of Ramayana and Mahabharata have their own separate episodes that often formed a separate story with Indonesian twists and interpretations that often differ from Indian version. Because of it’s Indian Hindu influence, many of the characters that is depicted in Indonesian epics have similar if not same characters as it’s Indian heritage.
Modern Times They have been collected and used in the Indonesian education system, in small cheap books, usually tied in with a district or region of Indonesia. Many stories explain events or establish moral allegories from iconic or symbolic characters of the past. They also seek to explain the origins of names of people and places from Folk etymology. During the Suharto era (1966 - 1998) , there were sections of the Indonesian Department of Education and Culture that researched and wrote reports on collected cerita rakyat. S!!

Folklore Issues
ANATOMY OF A FOLKLORE Themes Indonesian folklore reflect the diverse culture of Indonesia as well as the diversity of ethnic groups in Indonesia. Many ethnic groups have their collection of tales and folklores being told for generations. The stories usually told to children as somekind of bed-time story, and have pedagogical value on kindness, benevolence, modesty, honesty, bravery, patience, persistence, virtue and morality. For example the popular theme is "the truth is always prevail, the evil will always defeated". While most of Indonesian children folklore stories are having happy ending plots and happily ever after theme, some might employed tragedy and rather sad ending. Either way, there is a common innocent theme through out the different folklores. No matter which part of indonesia it comes from. There is always a common spectacle in Indonesian folklores. The different genres are often edited and are portrayed into a performance. Wheter it be dance or visual puppetry. Many fables are later intreperted into children’s songs or a poem that simplify it’s story. Epic’s are often and lately turned into a tv serial. Although the stories of are different that it’s narrative counterpart. The character and his or her personality is still similar.

Folklore Issues
Characters in popular Indonesia Folklores A study in the characteristics and personalities of favourite and iconic indonesian folklores, and how it has become a pattern. Although this is not all of the stereotypes, these are the most recognizeable ones.
The Mouse Deer or Si Kancil The kancil is a famous character in the whole Indonesian folklore series. Usually the kancil is portrayed as a smart, cool, intelligent creature that roams the rainforest looking for adventure. Through all the stories that i’ve read the kancil is probably the most memorable. It has become somewhat of an icon to the indonesia fairy tale. Many of the stories that the kancil plays a part in, is using the plot of brains over brawns. The kancil is an Important model to many indonesians and that the kancil charaterizes and reinforces a value system that leaves an impact both short term and long term on the audiences.
The Princess
The Kickass Prince
In indonesian folklores the princess does not only play the part of damsel in distres. In some stories they were the ones who saved the day from certain disaster. Often portrayed as beautiful and soft. Their characteristic varies from being a spoiled girl, damsel in a curse, or a strong willed woman that will undo the wrongs in her path. The princess represents the ideal woman when she plays the protagonist. When the cahracter became the antagonist of the story it tells women to be more humble and that beauty alone could not get you anywhere.
In most of the stories the prince or the boy is the main protagonist. They embody the righteous man in all of us. The prince is always handed a task that they must take and in the process endure the difficulties of the journey. They are often depicted as young handsome and are experts in a certain skillset. They are the traditional superheroes of Indonesia. They symbolize the all round good men. The character teaches, courage, intelligence, and last but not least, responsibility.
The Kind Elderly
The Angry Giant
The elderly is always if not often depicted as frail kind mysterious characters in all most of the folklores. They often offer service and often ask for service. They are portrayed as wise yet frail at the same time. The elderly symbolizes that the readers should respect and listen to the elders, for they may be weak, but we can all learn something from their well experienced wisdom.
Many of the indonesian folklore depicts giants as greedy, mean, and gluttonous beyond relief. Commonly portrayed as the villain of the story, the giant symbolizes what greed and selfishness can do to a man. They are often portrayed as possesing magical abilities and superhuman strenght that they use oftenly. The giant left good moral impact in every story, that negativity always loses.

I can see no difference here.
Compability I have always thought that the famous superheroes and traditional Indonesian folklore characters have something similar to them. They have superpowers that are beyond what humans can do and are dedicated to saving lives. But somehow the traditional indonesian super heroes are not as glamourized as its western counterpart, even by Indonesians themselves.

Putting folklores in a modern and contemporary form of media might help with raising interest in the younger generation. Of course visual interpretation has been done to traditional Indonesian folklores. But there are still young Indonesians who are not interested in the stories of the ancient. They only have basic knowledge and only popular stories that their teachers taught them.
Leaving a visual impact on such a young age is crucial to getting their interest towards Indonesian Folklores. For example, Manga comic books The younger generation takes interest in it because it has compelling illustrations, thus they took interest in reading it. Media such as cartoons, comics, and still illustrations would make a great start for them to take interest in Indonesian folklores.

A STUDY ON COMICS Brief History At its simplest, a comic book is a series of words and pictures that are presented in a sequential manner to form a narrative that may or may not be humorous (McCloud 1993). Originating in the United States in the late 1800s, the comic book contains everyday language, slang, and idiom, as well as color and a sophisticated interplay between text and image—all serving a therapeutic, explanatory, and commercial purpose in American culture. Traditionally occupying the fringes of pop culture, the comic book is actually a valuable historical text that comments on how young people and adults alike identify with cultural and political issues. As such, a comic book is much more than just a series of words and pictures with marginal cultural importance. Indeed, given its complex cultural and commercial role, a definition of “comic book” raises an amalgam of theoretical debates about sequence, narrative, image, text, genre, and art as well as its relation to other genres, such as children’s literature (Meskin 2007). At the very least, comic books can

be seen as a result of pressures by artists and consumers as well as by the historical forces acting on both groups. Much more than just a form of entertainment for kids, comic books are a serious and sophisticated art form that both feeds off of and creates cultural formulas and historical constructs.
The power of image
I always think that comics is the most enjoyable way of reading. Sometimes i dont even read the words. Just looking at the images would take me to the story itself. I believe that a young kid would remember the image of donald duck with his adventure gear, and then he would remember what the story is about. Even better he/she would make their own story

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF COMICS Franco -Belgian comics American Comics La bande dessinĂŠe is derived from the original description of the art form as drawn strips (the phrase is literally translated as the drawn strip), analogous to the sequence of images in a film strip. As in its English equivalent, the word "bande" can be applied to both film and comics. It is not insignificant that the French term contains no indication of subject matter, unlike the American terms "comics" and "funnies," which imply an art form not to be taken seriously.
Italian comics n Italy, comics (known in Italian as fumetti) made their debut as humouristic strips at the end of the nineteenth century, and later evolved in adventure stories inspired by those coming from the US After World War II, however, artists like Hugo Pratt and Guido Crepax exposed Italian comics to an international audience. "Author" comics contain often strong erotic contents. Best sellers remain popular comic books Diabolik or the Bonelli line, namely Tex Willer or Dylan Dog. Mainstream comics are usually published on a monthly basis, in a black and white digest size format, with approximately 100 to 132 pages.
Since the creation of the comic book format in the 1930s, the United States has been the leading producer, with only the British comic and Japanese manga as close competitors in terms of quantity of titles (although, Japan far outweighs America in overall sales). The majority of all comic books in the US are marketed to young adult readers, though they also produce titles for young children as well as adult audiences. The Golden Age is generally thought as lasting from the introduction of the character Superman in 1938 until the early 1950s. During this time, comic books enjoyed considerable popularity; the archetype of the superhero was invented and defined, and many of the most popular superheroes were created.
Japanese Comics (mangas) Modern comic books in Japan developed from a mixture of these earlier comic books and woodblock prints ukiyo-e with Western styles of drawing. They took their current form shortly after World War II. They are usually published in black and white, except for the covers, which are usually printed in four colors, although occasionally, the first few pages may also be printed in full color. The term manga means "random (or whimsical) pictures".

ComicS Comics are a good way to communicate to the audience for its easy reading and the use of visual language as the main way to get the audience’s attention. Younger audiences especially are interested with the detailed and intricate drawings that comics presents. Folklores and traditional superhero comics are very similar in terms of story. Thus that is why comics seems very suitable. The theme of the stories are patriotism justice, revenge, and basically learning from what is right and what is wrong, and how righteousness are able to overcome evil inevitably.
The many comics that were published tells the story of how the hero is able to be able to overcome their adversaries and protect the innocent citizens. So as in the Folklores of indonesia there tells a lot of story of how the protagonist whether individual or a group are able to beat the enemy with the use of theirwits more often than their muscles.

THE COMICS AND THE ARTIST Although european comics are not as popular as its american counterpart. I prefer the styles of European Comics. Their fluent lines and bring pastellish colours are really enjoyable to look at and are amazingly detailed by the skilled strokes of the black pen or ink of the illustrator. I also liked how the artist are capable of creating a new world and are able to capture the details and uniqueness of the place. The use of the black strokes help its audience feel and imagine the texture of the place ilustrated is proffesionally crafted.

On a personal level, I feel that European comics have managed to capture that innocent feel that only european style of comics could achieve. It shows a bunch of whimsical characters in a very magical setting, complimented by a simple and engaging storyline. All these elements have given european comics a sense of originality that can only be pulled off by a few artists.

When I was young I read asterix and Obelix ike it was my bible. I was so attracted by the visually engaging environment and the characters that is in the story itself. I also remembered learning about the Gauls and the Romans, and even egyptians. Although they were not trully factual. It stuck with me until now. If it would work so well with a foreign culture. Why not try it with a local culture that the young people are actually familiar with

The fact that the comics itself was used as a method to get a political or a social issue across the public in an effective manner. Also comics were still used as a method of communicative media even though the consumers of newspapers are usually adults. It means that adults as well as children enjoy comics just as much. Comics in newspapers were a crucial and an unusual part of a newspaper. The fact that newspaper were often serious, the presence of a comic in the middle of news were an unlikely scene yet it was everwhere. Newspaper comics are fast and simple easy reading. Yet the stories and characters remain to entertain you for the rest of the day. As a small kid I used to be able to understand politics through these kinds of comics. Because the information that they give was made easier through the images that was not only informative but also humorous. If such type of comic could easily explain a complicated topic such as politics, it should be easier to explain about traditional folklores.
Another form of popular comics are the newspaper comics. They are strips of short stories that tackles everyday life, politics, romance, and innocent humor.

With Indonesia as a big archipelago. It is to no surprise that Indonesia has a lot of different and unique folklores. With each region holding a different believe and a different way of life, the stories are bound to be unique and diversed. Indoensian folklores no matter where they are from, they would always hold the same key value which is to be a good person, or in some cases a clever character that instead of using violence, the character would rather use his brain to get through his adversity.
I got 99 problems but my swag aint one.
Still, the main point of a folklores would be the moral of the story that would only be clear after you have read the whole story. Each story would have a different lesson in accordance to where the story comes from.

Conventional Comic Panels These are the old school template for the basic page of a comic. As seen the text over image aesthetics is clearly seen here. What is also seen is the pastel colours that fill up each panel. It is eye catching and yet still subtle enough for the viewers to want to continue reading the comic. The panels themselves give out a tone of voice according to the given storyline on the page itself. The frequency of the panels would follow the activity that is depicted in the illustrations and the storyline.

ILLUSTRATIVE TEXT EFFECT KAPOW, bANG, PEWPEW!! Another element that is essential to comic books are the use of text to represent sound. This particular element of the comic book is the one element that makes a comic book engaging as we would try to audibli imagine what the sound would actually sound like. As seen on the pages on the left side it is evident also how the illustrative text set the tone of the panel. Basically with all these elements combined. Each panel has its own tone and are able to set the flow of the whole story.
Plus its kinda funny if used properly. Not only does the text only work for action sequences, it also work as a comedic element. Although if the texts were not used properly, it would just look weird. Imagine a “KA-POW� Text on a romantic scene. That would be very awkward.

Contemporary Comic Books HELLBOY
The style of this comic uses a lot of white space and sillhouettes. Making the colour stand out from the rest of the page. Also the bold lines and its bright colours, contrasted with a bold black shadow, makes this comic stand out from the rest. Another thing about this comic is that it is capable of capturing the aspect and feel of each panel even though there is only a few colors that were used. It freaky and unique style of illustration is something different from the rest of the comics that i’ve read. Illustrator Mike Mignola, Written by Scott Hampton Dark Horse Comics an amazing and epic comic.

The comic book is a very dark modern take on the different situtations of life. The illustrative type on this comic book is very simple and innocent, yet it displays a very dark and simply engaging visuals. The book’s thick line and simple colours make it a very easy reading. Earth X: Marvel Universe WHAT IS EARTH X ? On earth X, the artist also uses a lot of shadows to get the characters to pop out from the background. Tiny gradients of highlight were used to make the characters more exciitng. I personally really like this style of illustration for comics, because it is detailed but it stil holds that simple visuals like old school comics but illustrated using modern mediums Overall the illustrative style of earth x is able to capture the attention of its audience and make them stay to read page after page.

Another thing about earth X, is that the story uses a lot of narratical boxes instead of speech bubbles, its like there is a third person that is telling the story of that specific character. Somehow it makes the whole storyline more suspenseful and serious. I really enjoyed reading earth X, and was actually Inspired a lot by the whole illustrative style of this book, because before I was afraid of how i would not be able to pull a really good realistic illustration which i still have yet to pull off.

KELLEY CLANCY The works of Kelley Clancy is amazingly detailed and is filled with hidden stories and subliminal or sometimes clear messages. She uses a lot of comic referenced part on her illustrations. Making it very relateable and viewer friendly. Her illustration style is a mixture of modern contemporary art with the layout of comics. What is really great about this is that her use of the panels to put order to her wild illustrated characters and weird patterns. It holds the whole illustration in one piece. making it very unique and cool. Another aspect to her illustrative style is the use of illusrated expressive type to go along well with her illustration. Just like a comics text effect her illustrated is also expressive and most of all hand made and custom which makes it even more impactful.
Looking at her work is like looking like a very costumised batik, it looks jumbled and messy from afar. But when you take a closer look you can start to appreciate its details and the effort put into that story. Especially when you are on an illegal substance her illustrations suddenlt became more deep and meaningful. There is something so personal about her works, but I forgot what it was.

GEOFF DARROW HARD BOILED
Geof Darrow is a comic illustrator with a very distinctive style that separates him from the rest of the comic artist. A style which a lot of people call a BADASS style. His style of illustrations is so chaotic and detailed that in every direction that you look, there is something that is going on, his attention to detail and his hay of placing elements in his pages is just amazing.
WITH EVERY CHARACTER COMES A DIFFERENT STORY
One of the things that I liked about his illustrations is that every character on the page is customised to the extent that when you look at the character you would know that, that character has a story behind his appearance on this page. And you’re not even looking at the main character, you’re just looking at the people in the background.

WHAT THE!? THIS IS A COOK BOOK!
The minimalist type of covers are as stated, very minimally designed so that the white space would emphasize the design. Therefore I think that a minimalist type of approach to the comic would be very cool and different from other comics.
The illustrative type of covers are a cover that illustrates an aspect from the story of the comic book itself. So the use of an illustrative type of cover would be a good and straight forward method of representing the inside of the book.

MIXED STYLE
The use of type to represent the story for a book has been used commonly amongst the many novels and other types of book. Although this approach is rarely used for a comic book it would still be a very cool and unique approach to represent a comic.
This is the style that is favorited by me, because of the freedom of style. It is basically a combination of the different elements and creating this different type of book cover.
Book covers are hard to design and nice to look at. An effective book cover manages to catch human’s eye and convey the idea behind the book on one single page. However, it’s getting even harder: to make a book really hard to forget, designers need to design the cover in a unique, creative and striking way. That’s not that different from Web where it’s important to build a sound information architecture upon a rather restricted design layout

Therefore Comic books are somewhat contemporary as they would always change in accordance of their time. Some use more than one method, while others may use different methods for different marketing purposes. Regardless of your chosen product or service, a strong set of promotional strategies can help position your product in a favorable light with not only current audiences, but new ones as well.

SOMEHOW, POSTERS ARE SO COOL MAN! I would use posters as a medium for promoting the poster that i would use. With the use of posters, especially posters that are illustrated with a contemporary design. Therefore it would attract the younger audience. The poster would play more as a type of pure promotional tool for the comic that would be published afterwards.
There are many types of posters, with each type of poster, comes a different tone of voice. So in this case I will be experimenting on the different types of posters. as which will be best suited for a promotional use for the folklore.
People use posters to promote an event. Various events like tradeshows, fashion shows, concerts, seminars and other awesome events can be promoted through the use of posters. The printed materials can provide valuable information to people about specific events, products, messages and even weddings held. With the use of cool posters, artist and even business entrepreneurs alike can expect more audiences or consumers to take notice of whatever they are doing. Posters can be used to make people aware of what’s happening in their community. Posters are very useful for individuals or a group to publicly communicate to the audience without having to meet them personally. Aside from being a marketing tool, a poster print can be used to get an important message across the target audience.

One might be more accustomed to one design more than the other and One poster might say one thing, and one might say another. Therefore choosing the correct type of poster and for which audience is really important in getting your message across effectively to a certain audience. So using the correct type of poster would be deemend necessary. Posters are simply just a piece of paper with pictures or words on them. Posters are typically used for advertisement purposes. You will find poster that cover many topics, from the solar system, to the hottest new band. Most teenagers and young adults have poster on their walls. BARFCOMICS The main inspiration for the illustrated poster for the folklores are the Illustrations that were done by James Callahan from which is also the founder of Barf Comics. Their playful illustrations are very funny but dark at the same time. It has that skater style as the whole theme. Which is perfect for getting the attention of young audiences. The tone that artist set is loud and crazy, I think. But either way, it looks cool, young people likes cool things. Now with this kind of Punk rock illustrations and a good call for action, the posters would seem to be appropriate to getting the more younger audience to be attracted towards the traditional folklores, or at least acknowledge it’s existence. Hence the illustrative poster would be based on James Callahan’s poster. The tone and style mostly.
Incorporating modern elements into the poster would be a good idea for it would make the poster more relatable towards the younger audience. Everybody loves that whole bad ass rock and roll stuff. At least the cool people do.

Minimalist illustrated posters are basically illustrative posters that are has a very minimal amount of elements. It usually uses a very small amount of colour and mostly uses only the main aspects of what the poster represents.
WHY?
Because there are more than one type of posters, i have decided to also do another set of poster. But instead of having it fully illustrated, I will try something new to me. I wil try a very minimalist type of illustration. Because it also looks very contemporary.
HOW?
By doing my own illustration, i will try to turn that style into a very minimalistic graphic feel towards it. I would like to make it look very graphicish thing, but also i would still want my own touch towards the poster.
By using these types of posters it, the hope of attracting young audiences from another culture was raised. Because a lot of different young people now are mostly interested in different things. Using a different type of poster would be deemed necessary in order to get more attention from the Indonesian public.
I decided to use minimalist posters because of the fact that subcultures whether western or local have affected the interest and mindset of the younger generations of Indonesians. Therefore it is understandable that a more modern type of poster is also used to capture the contemporary feel of the outcome.

Because type posters mainly focuses in wirds, and plus im doing something about folklores, the main thing about traditional folklores are that they have meaningful morals that help children. SO I think putting them in these posters would be appropriate.

I will draw handmade tpefaces or fonts or whatever. because I would use my own hand made type. It will be easier for to control where the things would go and how easily i could shape it to my own demise.

Movie Poster
WHAT?
Movie posters are posters that promote movies, they are specifically designed to cater towards a certain movie, just one frickin movie. So if i use this kinds of poster with a similar tone, it should work inthe folklores.
WHY?
Because, movie posters are very iconic, some movie posters are capable of capturing the attention of passerbys because it is amazingly iconic. For example star wars poster. They would catch my eye for sure.
HOW?

By taking a famous and iconic movie poster and making a traditional folklore rendition to it. Thus it would make the poster iconic and informative. Everybody’s happy.
A movie is presented to the public by its poster. Just like lost dogs on a lampost So in other words, movie posters are the easiest to parody thus making it memorable in the eyes of the viewer. Using famous pop culture references, these posters would be very useful to getting the attention of the public.

WHAT? Propaganda posters to me are posters with a provocative tone. There is a certain tone about propaganda posters that makes a person stop and heed.
WHY? To make people obey my design issue and care about the disappearing folklores of course. Plus usually propaganda posters are spread out and iconic too. Therefore people would just be bombarded by its message and would then obey.
HOW? Taking famous indonesian characters and making them in a very traditional yet adding a spice of contemporary influenced references in it. Thus people would be able to relate to the poster and its message. At least they would be more attracted to look.

THE ART OF COLLECTING Collecting is a human activity that does not cease to fascinate. Anything can be an object for collecting, from worn-out everyday utensils to the most desirable works of art. We collect things as a pastime, as a mission in life, or just because we can’t help it. Any kind of collection establishes links between the collected items and constructs borders between what is in the collection and what isn't. Thus collecting shines a search light – directly or indirectly – on the relationship between objects. Needless to say, it also turns our attention towards the relationship between mankind and its objects.
With the human’s impulse to collect it is only reasonable that for this project i will need to create a small collectible type of outcome. For me I will create a small bunch of either Stickers, Stamps, or Patches. As a form of collection, this outcome in turn would help personalise the collector with the story itself. Making it a nice touch to whole set of outcomes to come.

Creating a stamp for those letters (like as if anybody still use them) can be a good way for this issue to promote folklores, since usually these types of stamps stamps are promoting a culture or an image of something that sometimes rather boring. SO instead of another boring images why not use a contemporary illustration about the characters of traditional folklores.
PATCHES FOR PUNKS
Patches are usually made for boy scouts or music merchandise and or something else that is commercial. But no other group represents pathces like the rock n rollas and the punks. They have patches everywhere. So why not design a patch that represents Indonesian folklores but make it look like a punk band’s patch. That way punks will be tricked into adding folklores to their denims.
STICKERS FOR YOU AND ME
Stickers, who does not own a sticker, from political purposes to musical to just straight up vandalising. everybody loves a good sticker or two. So therefore I think creating a series of these small yet pleasing decorative adhesives would attract almost everybody. Stickers are like nachos of the design world. Who doesn’t like nachos. Those who dont like it are probably lonely and have no friends anyway.

INTERACTIVITY Interactivity is crucial in getting the viewer’s interested in whatever the project is showing in order for them to receive and understand the message. Making an interactive medium with the viewer would definitely increase the wow factor of the project, engaging the viewer in a whole new experience. Hopefully with this experience the viewer would be able to capture the visuals that was in the interface and the program would leave a mental image in the viewer’s head, long enough to make them curious about the message that was conveyed.

INTERFACE WHAT?

So I was thinking that the project should be more like an eye see game kind of thing. So that the viewers can spot and interact with the folklores themselves.
Adobe flash would give me the flexibility to make the application more user friendly in a way. So that people that will be interacting with the interface would be able to smoothly explore the interface and thus the message of reservation would be conveyed more easily.
For the interface I have decided that it will be somewhat like a game. It should be able to create a fun and learning experience for the user. But learning not in a boring way, more of a fun way to say te least.
Since time is not really on my side, the only reasonable app to use would be flash, since I am capable and somewhat already mastered the application, it would be a wiser choice for me to use it.

INTERACTIVITY THROUGH VISION AND VISUALS
Where’s Waldo is a good example of how the interactivity between image and viewer is best played. The is challenged to find the main character of the book which is Waldo. Most of the time it will take around 15 minutes to 15 weeks to find Waldo. Most of the page are amazingly illustrated and its illustrations are very beautifully distracting that it will be amazingly hard for the viewer to find Waldo. As the viewer is busy looking for Waldo. They
are taken away by the many characters and story that are going on in one piece of illustration.

So I thought i should do the same in my page. Make a nice detailed illustration and put the characters of the folklores inside the illustration thus the viewer will not only appreciate the illustration but also learn about the culture of the different provinces of Indonesia and its culture, which I will be incorporating in the illustrations.

INFORMATION CAN ONLY GO SO FAR WHEN NO ACTIONS ARE TAKEN With all the research it is now time to actually start executing the outcomes, which are the comics and the posters. I will follow the chosen artworks that are most inspiring and the ones that I think would be most suitable to get the message about the preservation of the Indonesian folklores through contemporary art across to the public.
I will also do another research or something like a user survey/ user testing. To better understand the target audience’s view on the outcomes that I will present to them. With the desired opinions from young people. I will know on what to improve to better my outcomes.
