Here are a few facts about the luxurious Rolex watches. The name “Rolex” came about because Wilsdorf wanted his brand to be easy to say in any language. Though it’s a Swiss company, it was founded in London by a German and a Brit. Rolex’s movements were the first to allow the rotor to make a full 360-degree circle. Rolex were the first to create a waterproof wrist watch, built in 1926. Rolex became the first watch to secure chronometer certification and they actually made some of the original quartz movements. Jacques Piccard, a underwater vehicle developer, took his Rolex into the Mariana Trench and it survived under 11,000 feet of seawater and kept perfect time. The least expensive Rolex is the Air-King priced at $3,000, whereas the most expensive Rolex ever produced was retailed at $485,350! The police once solved a murder because of a Rolex.

The Rolex company stayed active in London for 14 years, until 1919. Indeed, shortly before that, the brand started to manufacture a few parts in-house. Yet, they quickly discovered that Switzerland was the best option when it comes to production of watch parts. This is why in 1919, Rolex moved to Geneva. The winding crown is actually made up of 10 different parts and is screwed hermetically onto the watchcase. Rolex have never released information about how many watches produced a year, however it is estimated to be between 800,000 to a million. Another fact that is truly amazing is that the fact that all movements created by Rolex are hand assembled; infact by now you’d think machines do the work. Rolex makes all of their gold, this makes the watch more special! Also, Rolex employ a team of gemologists to ensure the highest quality of gemstones in their products; showing pure dedication and care for their product. It takes about a year to make just one Rolex watch according to an advert Rolex released long ago. The security employed by Rolex is akin to something you’d see in a James Bond film. They have bars at their foundry that weigh in at just over $1,000,000 worth of Everose gold. Rolex are serious about security, and you can’t really blame them for it too. Rolex is the single largest luxury watch company, retailing in over 100 countries and is estimated to produce 2,000 pieces per day. These were a few facts about Rolex, showing some history and reasoning for their pricy watches.
