MRI-TRANSFER

+ Medical Imaging Equipment Design 2016, January - June Focus on the ability to design in a very professional and limited area Individual Work

2

RESEARCH

Background

How difficult is it for critically ill patient to get an MRI scan examination? Examination Room with Strong Magnetic Field

For normal patient, walking into the examination room is OK. The patient just need to leave the metal stuffs before getting into the room.

For critically ill patient, because of the strong magnetic field, the metal stretcher must be left outside the room . 3

Without the stretcher, patient need be carried in with the help of nursing workers.

Manual handling activity is really costly and time-consuming for medical staff.

4

RESEARCH

Exsiting Solution in China

What a hard work for the nursing workers ?

5

A nurse survey report from Shanghai Women Study Association shows that 30.9% of the nursing workers work 9 hours per day, and the other about 70% of workers work 12 hours per day, without weekends, which completely exceed the prescribed statutory working time.

The Weakpoints of Manual Handling In current China's national conditions, many hospitals use large medical imaging equipments still in an overcrowded situation. For the whole medical system, the most simple and affordable way to transfer non-mobile patients is still using manual handling way by nursing workers.

But actually inappropriate manual handling has some potential harm in different aspects in the medical system. For different patients, it may lead to more severe symptoms. And also it may create more burden for medical staffs.

Local vascular puncture caused by bony spur, leads to massive hemorrhage.

Fracture

Myocardial Infarction

Inappropriate Manual Handling

For Staff

Ventricular arrhythmia appearring in early time, leads to sudden death.

Cerebral Infarction

accelerate brain metabolism, increase cerebral oxygen demand, and increase the risk of infection.

Attending Doctor

has the responsibility to supervise the whole process in carrying his patients. It's time-wasting.

Nursing Worker

Assist in Manual Handling

need several workers to cooperate in this wor. It's energy-wasting. 6

RESEARCH

Auxiliary Equipment

There are different kinds of auxiliar y equipments to assist the manual handling. They can be classified into 3 movement modes, including lift, translation and turn. They can be helpful, but can not solve the core problem.

Lift Can Lift Heavier Body Complicated Steps

9

Translation, the better way to move patient without sitting up

Design a way to transfer patient for MRI scan. Through the sketches, I tried my best to improve and promote the possible way of realization, and to learn different solution in different areas. Also I made sure that the design obeys the basic medical safety restriction, which can have both the crazy innovation and the possibility of realizing it in real.

FINAL

MRI TRANSFER

Part 1 Strecher + Part 2 Wheeled Bed 11

MRI Transfer makes the optimization of image services as a starting point and further simplify and standardize the MRI delivery processes of critically ill patients. Replace the existing transport mode of artificial lift, MRI-Transfer uses the convenient moveable way of combining the conveyer belts, universal wheels and supplemented Scoop stretcher structure, so that critically ill patients unable to move, could smoothly complete the medical imaging examination in the most hassle free manner - lying on the back. 12

Push the MRI transfer to fit the MRI machine, and press the button which can raise the bedplate to the height of inspection. Use the conveyor belt again to transfer stretcher holding patient to the MRI bedplate and fix the stretcher with the MRI. finally choose the corresponding coil to fix it with the stretcher and start preset sequence. After the inspection, repeat the process to send patient back.

RESEARCH

Scenario

Nowadays air condition becomes a very serious porblem in city. Many people choosing biking as the commute way will wear the mask when they ride outside. And I found out there are some conflicts between helmets and masks.

A Common Scenario Happened in City

1

2

Jack 26 years old works in a design company rides bike to work

It's 9:00am on Tuesday, Jack got out of home preparing to ride to company.

33

Jack wore on the mask first.

Then Jack put on his helmet and started the riding.

Many people will wear many stuffs on their head, such as helmet ,mask ,glasses and so on. It may cause some extra trouble.

3

4

? Is there any possibility to solve this problem in city cycling

Suddenly, somebody called him on the phone, he need to answer it. he need take off his thick mask to speak. So Jack took off the belt of the helmet first.

And next, he took off the belt of his mask. It's really a troublesome way to get a phone call in this situation.

Wind of Breath

The wind is invisible, Is there any possible moment to catch it and shape it?

45

Through certain media, the wind could be frozen, in a particular form. Maybe the fold of the cloth, the wave in the sea or the flattened weeds could reveal the feeling of the wind.

Take a Breath, and shape it.

Build Frame

Take a breath to the sensor, and we got the airflow as a input value to our parametric system. We want to record the breath in an interesting way.

We tried to use several tools such as Grasshopper to help us build the whole system and make the parameter visualized.

47

3 Regulate Parameter We began to transfer the parameters to generate a series of lines, 2D, 3D and the body, which can be took as a visualized prototype, to provide more possibilities for design part. 48

Feel pain and sore in finger joints

Repetitive strain leads to tenosynovitis

Prolonged compression leads to poor circulation

Long time fixed position leads to periarthritis

So cer tain exercise and relaxation of joints of arms are very important. but actually few people could insist it because of lack of Excitation.

DESIGN DESCRIPTION

This is an interactive device aimed to change people's diet circumstance. Contemporary fast paced life makes people have no time to take into account the small details of life, such as the experience of the meal. With heads bowed to phones all family members feel awkward at a meal. So how to make a little change in the dining environment?

73

We give the answer, to combine music and food. Giving pleasant feelings of the two kinds of experience, each one can become better with each other. Using similar morphology of plate and DJing, this design let people touch and rotate the upper part of the DJing, following the rhythm of the music to decrease the embellishment of waiting meals.

Opportunity To foster fab lab's integration A fab lab (fabrication laboratory) is a small-scale workshop offering (personal) digital fabrication. And nowdays more and more fab labs are appearing in Milan but in a more isolated way from local people. The fab lab needs an opportunity to engage the citizens to spread circular economy and facilitate economic sustainability. To boost local e-commerce Nowadays online shopping makes the mass produced objects could be purchased from all around the world. But on the other way, this situation leads to the foreign material provenance and long supply chains which is not sustainable. Is it possible to use local resources to complete self-production and sales in city to reduce logistics costs? 77

FAB LAB

What if we could create a high quality brand for Milan, that promotes local production and consumption. A brand that is circular, decentralised and recognisable. All of this, by using the city's waste. 78

CONCEPT

What we want to do

In the city, we are trying to think about how to reuse the valuable waste by useing some available resources and turn the way into a healthy and sustainable circulation which is benifitial for the city. Fab labs become our opportunities.

so this is our aim of this project: To improve the material circulation inside the city while we promote production in Milan’s fab labs, enhancing local consumption.

Provide new access to these materials INCREASE MATERIALS CIRCULATION IN THE CITY

AVOID THAT EVERY PRODUCT BOUGHT ENDS UP AS WASTE

Decentralise manufacturing

Build responsible buying habits PROMOTE LOCAL PRODUCTION AND CONSUMPTION
