The purpose is to provide an added value for a low-energy concept with a healthy indoor climate, with design in mind. healthy building concept Het Healthy Building Concept (HBC) biedt een gezonde luchtkwaliteit via natuurlijke basisventilatie. Conform de normen wordt door middel van voldoende verse buitenlucht de verontreinigde binnenlucht uit het gebouw verdreven volgens het principe van toevoer, doorvoer en afvoer van lucht, met aandacht voor het akoestisch comfort. Daarnaast wordt een aangename temperatuur tijdens de zomer bereikt via de beheersing van de zonne-instraling door middel van een efficiënte buitenzonwering en het toepassen van intensieve natuurlijke ventilatie tijdens de nacht. De intensieve ventilatie maakt ’s nachts gebruik van grote hoeveelheden koele buitenlucht, om tijdens de zomermaanden het thermisch comfort optimaal te houden met een minimaal energieverbruik. Naast de nood aan voldoende thermische massa die de koelte ‘vasthoudt’, moet voldoende lucht kunnen circuleren doorheen toevoer-, doorvoer- en afvoervoorzieningen. Naast het thermisch comfort wordt ook het visueel comfort van gebouwen verbeterd door het gebruik van een efficiënte buitenzonwering, zoals Fixscreen®, Sunclips® en Icarus®. Le Healthy Building Concept (HBC ) offre un air qualitatif et sain grâce à une ventilation de base naturelle. Conformément aux normes, l'air intérieur vicié est évacué du bâtiment par l'apport d'air extérieur frais, selon le principe de l'amenée, de la circulation et de l'évacuation de l'air, avec une grande attention pour le confort acoustique. En été, la température reste agréable à l'intérieur grâce à une protection solaire extérieure efficace qui retient les rayons du soleil et à une ventilation naturelle intensive pendant la nuit. La ventilation intensive nocturne utilise de grandes quantités d'air frais extérieur pour garantir un confort thermique optimal en été, tout en consommant un minimum d'énergie. Outre la nécessité d'une masse thermique suffisante qui 'retienne' la fraîcheur, l'air doit pouvoir se déplacer suffisamment dans les infrastructures d'amenée, de passage et d'évacuation. Hormis le confort thermique, le confort visuel des bâtiments est également amélioré grâce à des protections solaires extérieures efficaces comme FIXSCREEN®, SUNCLIPS® et ICARUS®. Das Healthy Building Konzept (HBK) bietet mittels natürlicher Grundlüftung eine gesunde Luftqualität. In Übereinstimmung mit den geltenden Normen wird mithilfe einer ausreichenden Menge frischer Außenluft die verunreinigte Innenluft aus dem Gebäude abgeführt, und zwar gemäß dem Grundsatz der Zufuhr, Durchfuhr und Abfuhr von Luft, unter Berücksichtigung des akustischen Komforts. Daneben wird im Sommer eine angenehme Temperatur erreicht, indem tagsüber die Sonneneinstrahlung durch wirksamen, außenliegenden Sonnenschutz begrenzt wird und nachts eine intensive, natürliche Lüftung zur Anwendung kommt. Für die intensive Lüftung werden nachts große Mengen kühler Außenluft genutzt, um den thermischen Komfort während der Sommermonate bei minimalem Energieverbrauch optimal zu halten. Neben dem Bedarf an ausreichenden Mengen thermischer Masse, welche die Kühle “festhält”, müssen über Zufuhr-, Durchfuhr- und Abfuhreinrichtungen ausreichende Luftmengen zirkulieren können. Neben dem thermischen Komfort wird durch die Verwendung von wirksamem, außenliegendem Sonnenschutz wie FIXSCREEN®, SUNCLIPS® und ICARUS® auch der visuelle Komfort von Gebäuden verbessert. The Healthy Building Concept (HBC) offers healthy air quality by means of natural basic ventilation. In conformity with the standards, a sufficient supply of fresh outside air is used to force the contaminated inside air out of the building according to the principle of air supply, transit and extraction, and this with the necessary attention for acoustic comfort. Furthermore, a comfortable temperature is ensured during the summer by controlling the sunlight entering the building with efficient outside sunprotection and the use of intensive natural ventilation during the night. The intensive ventilation at night uses large quantities of cool outside air to keep thermal comfort optimal during the summer months, with minimum energy consumption. Besides the need for a sufficient thermal mass to 'hold' the coolness, sufficient air must be able to circulate through the air supply, transit and extraction units. Besides thermal comfort, the visual comfort of buildings is also improved by using efficient outside sunprotection such as FIXSCREEN®, SUNCLIPS® and ICARUS® (See our HBC references on page 36/40/80 in this book.) 6

Het Healthy Domestic Comfort concept is hetzelfde concept als het Healthy Building Concept, maar specifiek toegepast op residentiële gebouwen (woningen). Een continue en gecontroleerde basisventilatie zorgt voor een gezonde binnenluchtkwaliteit in de woning, met een minimum aan energieverbruik (Systeem C + ®). Een efficiënte buitenzonwering verbetert het thermisch en visueel comfort. Duurzame aluminium buitenzonwering of zonweringsscreens weren tijdens de zomer preventief de zon om oververhitting tegen te gaan en te zorgen voor een optimale lichtinval. Intensieve nachtventilatie zal tijdens de zomer door middel van grote koele luchtstromen ’s nachts de binnenlucht en de noodzakelijke thermische massa van het gebouw afkoelen en de koelte stockeren. Hiervoor is nood aan voldoende toevoer-, doorvoer- en afvoervoorzieningen. Het thermisch comfort tijdens de zomermaanden zal op die manier gegarandeerd zijn met een minimaal energieverbruik. Le concept Healthy Domestic Comfort est le même que le Healthy Building Concept, mais appliqué spécifiquement aux bâtiments résidentiels (habitations). Une ventilation de base continue et contrôlée garantit un air intérieur de qualité dans l'habitation, avec une consommation d'énergie minimale (Système C + ®). Une protection solaire extérieure efficace améliore le confort thermique et visuel. Une protection solaire extérieure en aluminium durable ou des écrans solaires empêchent préventivement le soleil de pénétrer à l'intérieur, en été, pour éviter la surchauffe, minimiser le recours à la climatisation et assurer une luminosité optimale. Une ventilation nocturne intensive pendant l'été permet de refroidir l'air intérieur et la masse thermique du bâtiment la nuit au moyen d'importants flux d'air frais extérieur, et de stocker la fraîcheur. Pour ce faire, il faut suffisamment d'infrastructures d'amenée, de circulation et d'évacuation. Das Konzept Healthy Domestic Komfort ist mit dem Healthy Building Konzept identisch, wurde allerdings speziell auf Wohngebäude abgestimmt. Eine kontinuierliche und kontrollierte Grundlüftung sorgt bei einem Minimum an Energieverbrauch (System C + ®) für eine gesunde Innenluftqualität in der Wohnung. Ein wirksamer, außenliegender Sonnenschutz verbessert den thermischen und visuellen Komfort. Haltbarer, außenliegender Sonnenschutz aus Aluminium oder Sonnenschutz-Screens schützen im Sommer präventiv vor Sonne, um Überhitzung zu verhindern, Klimatisierung zu vermeiden und für einen optimalen Lichteinfall zu sorgen. Intensive Nachtlüftung sorgt im Sommer nachts durch große Ströme kühler Luft für eine Abkühlung der Innenluft und der nötigen thermischen Masse des Gebäudes sowie für eine Speicherung der Kühle. Dafür sind ausreichende Zufuhr-, Durchfuhr- und Abfuhreinrichtungen nötig. Auf diese Weise wird während der Sommermonate bei minimalem Energieverbrauch der thermische Komfort gewährleistet. The Healthy Domestic Comfort concept is the same concept as the Healthy Building Concept but specifically applied for residential buildings (homes). Continuous and controlled basic ventilation ensures healthy inside air quality in the home with a minimum of energy consumption (System C + ®). Efficient outside sunprotection improves both thermal and visual comfort. During the summer, durable aluminium outside sunprotection or sunprotecting screens protect against the sun, to counteract overheating and ensure optimal natural lighting. At night, intensive night ventilation with large cool air flows cools the inside air and the necessary thermal mass of the building while storing the coolness. This requires the use of sufficient air supply, transit and extraction units. Thermal comfort during the summer months is then guaranteed with a minimum of energy consumption. Na 5 jaren leven en werken in het HBC concept, blijft het mij verwonderen hoe esthetiek en natuur in harmonie kunnen samengaan. Daar waar de rationele geest alles onder controle wil houden met formules en berekeningen, blijkt dat de basiswetten van de natuur ongekend zijn voor ons. Geen enkel cijfer of berekening kan een gevoel van comfort of vrijheid uitdrukken. De motor, gestuurd door natuur elementen, kunnen we niet becijferen, we hebben vermoedens. Het comfort dat je voelt, moet je beleven, het is niet uit te leggen aan iemand die even langskomt. De beste omschrijving van het Healthy Building Concept is: “het is werken, de stoel onder de boom, in de stilte van de open natuur �. Medewerker RENSON

Après avoir vécu et travaillé pendant 5 ans dans le projet HBC, je reste toujours surpris de la manière dont l’esthétique et la nature peuvent cohabiter harmonieusement. Alors que l’esprit rationnel veut tout maîtriser par des formules et des calculs, les lois de base de la nature restent lettre morte pour nous. Aucun chiffre, aucun calcul ne peut exprimer un sentiment de confort ou de liberté. Nous ne pouvons pas chiffrer le moteur animé par les éléments naturels, nous ne pouvons que les soupçonner. Le confort que l’on ressent, il faut l’éprouver, on ne peut l’expliquer à celui qui ne fait que passer. La meilleure description du Healthy Building Concept pourrait s’énoncer comme suit : « c’est travailler, le siège sous l’arbre, dans le calme de la nature grande ouverte ». Collaborateur RENSON
Nach 5 Jahren Leben und Arbeiten im HBC-Konzept wundere ich mich noch stets darüber, wie Ästhetik und Natur so harmonisch kombiniert werden können. Da, wo der rationale Verstand alles mit Formeln und Berechnungen kontrollieren möchte, zeigt sich, dass die Grundgesetze der Natur uns ein Rätsel sind. Komfort und Freiheit lassen sich nicht durch Zahlen oder Formeln ausdrücken. Die treibende Kraft, die Naturelemente, können wir nicht beziffern, aber wir haben so unsere Vermutungen. Das Gefühl von Komfort müssen Sie selbst erlebt haben, das kann man einfach nicht erklären. Am besten lässt sich das Healthy Building Konzept so beschreiben: „Arbeiten im Schatten unter den Bäumen, in der Stille der freien Natur.“ Mitarbeiter RENSON
After 5 years of living and working in the HBC concept, I never cease to admire how aesthetics and nature combine so harmoniously. Our rational minds want to have everything under control, explained by our formulas and calculations, but some basic laws of nature remain unexplained. Comfort cannot be expressed in terms of numbers; neither can we calculate the feeling of freedom. This engine, driven by natural elements, is something we cannot rationalise – we only have our suspicions. You cannot explain the comfort; you have to experience it for yourself. The best description of the Healthy Building Concept is: “working a healthy building is like working in the open air, like sitting in the shade of a tree and beavering away while surrounded by nature's calm”.
