A picture is worth more than a thousand words. This often quoted idiom but it epitomises perfectly the focus of this new reference book which you have in front of you. It sets out for you what Renson stands for as an international trendsetter and pioneer, where it aspires to as an innovator, and what it is capable of thanks to the unbridled enthusiasm of its 1,000-plus staff. In brief: this reference book offers you an overview of 110 years of leadership in innovation. This selection of the most eye-catching projects from all corners of the globe demonstrates the true misÂsion of Renson: creating healthy and comfortable places to live and work in all kinds of environments as well as contributing to magical moments outdoors. You will see that the bar is set high when it comes to design, sustainability and quality. And we remain committed to this. We owe it to ourselves but, first and foremost, we owe it to our customers.

CASE STUDY
Testing, experimenting and monitoring for energy-efficient, healthy and comfortable indoor climate. The Renson Concept Home looks like a modern single-family house but behind the facade is a genuine test centre. The Concept Home is first and foremost a real-life test environment – at a later stage with residents – where a lot of practical data can be gathered. These data are of inestimable importance for research into the development of new technologies and to enable realistic objectives for energy-efficient, healthy and comfortable living. CEO Paul Renson cites an example: “This home is equipped with no fewer than 3 different ventilation systems so that they can be compared under exactly identical conditions, for example. But the latest gadgets to prevent overheating indoors are also built in.” The Renson Concept Home is also an experience c entre which will be open to professional customers (architects, installation engineers, consultancies etc.): a textbook example of nearly-zero-energy building with the latest techniques for the best indoor air quality, comfortable indoor temperatures and pleasant outdoor living. It reveals how the intelligent use of sustainable, natural elements such as light and air contributes in a
sustainable manner to healthy living, but also creates maximum comfort. Ultimately, this Concept Home is the perfect opportunity for Renson to demonstrate how far innovation can go nowadays. It is constructed on the basis of existing total concepts, but at the same time provides scope for new developments. “This Concept Home gives us the opportunity to experiment with innovations that are responding to the rapidly changing architectural aspects of building and renovation,” Paul Renson adds. CASE STUDY
“
Sunprotection was a logical choice according liveability and home comfort Architectural firm Samyn & Partners
„
A specific wind study was carried out for this project. The study revealed that the Renson Fixscreens, for each of the 20 storeys of this high- rise building, were fully compliant with the regulations in terms of wind resistance. According to the architect, this was the best evidence that Renson was the ideal partner for this project as a pioneer for windproof fabric solar shading (up to 130 km/h). Jelle Vandecasteele (technical director Koramic Real Estate). “It is not difficult to draw attention with a tower like this but equally there is a skill when it comes to ensuring attention to liveability and home comfort.” “Sunprotection was a logical choice in that regard,” according to the architect Jacques Ceyssens (architectural firm Samyn & Partners), “because this allows us to use glass for most light. Originally, we were even considering extending the patchwork of cladding in fabrics in a range of grey tones. But in the end dark grey fabrics proved to be the best fit for the brushed aluminium sections in the facade.”
“With windows down to the floor level in every apartment we had to look for suitable sunprotection to ensure a comfortable indoor climate. By blocking out the sun, even before it can reach the glass, we opted for the most efficient way of preventing overheating. The north side of this building also features the same shade casing and guiding channels - here too, subtly integrated behind the facade cladding - although without any sun protection fabric. All a matter of maintaining a uniform architecture.”

CASE STUDY
“
I really like the natural light through the open roof blades
„
After having a unit installed at their swimming pool, the owners of a residence in Limburg (BE) were convinced by the added value of a terrace covering with rotating louvre blades in the roof. “The natural light through the open blades is wonderful,” was the positive response. “And it gives us the necessary shade at any time of the day.” And so a ‘floating’ duplicate unit (connected) was also fitted above the terrace. Four years ago the owners already had an Algarve terrace covering installed next to the pool. “Initially, we were thinking about having a permanent structure,” they admit, “but when we saw the Renson coverings with rotating louvre blades in the roof we were imme diately won over.” The structure of the covering in black complements perfectly the many accessories in the garden which are the same colour: furniture set, enclosure and edging of the bathhouse. In the end, we opted for a combination with beige blades, identical to the colour of the woodwork of the house. “Complete with screens, we have been protected against sun, wind and rain, at all times,” they say enthusiastically. When last year they decided to also tackle the terrace - adjacent to the house - the idea came up to cover this with the same roof that has rotating louvre blades. “I really like the natural light with the blades in open
position,” professes the lady of the house. “But at the same time it is also very practical: you can open the roof to allow sun on the terrace and close it when it rains. This means the lounge set can stay outside at all times without having to cover it. A horizontal louvred roof also looks a lot sleeker than a sloping terrace covering, and is the perfect continuation of the house itself.” For this duplicate Aero once again they went for a black structure with beige blades in the roof. There was one key requirement for this installation: the owners wanted to have an unobstructed view of the garden from the 11m long terrace without central supporting columns. “Renson Ambassador P&G Metaalwerken truly deli vered a magnificent job,” they say: “a floating louvred roof measuring 11 metres in size is precisely what we wanted.”

CASE STUDY
Two 1930s residential blocks in Rotterdam Bergpolder were originally due to be demolished and rebuilt but after involving the residents’ associa tion which represented the 155 tenants another decision was taken. The PWS blocks have now been completely restored following extensive refurbishment. The old plastic frames were replaced by new ones which were equipped with Renson Invisivent NL window ventilation grilles. They now help to provide a healthy indoor air quality. The old frames from the 1980s detracted significantly from the original design of these residential blocks, to put it mildly. The new ones had to address this and so window builder Europrovyl had to look at how this original look could best be approached: “This is why we incorporated the arrangement of the original wooden sash windows in the new plastic frames,” says Arnold Van Der Meij (account manager systems supplier / frame builder Europrovyl). “The fact that these buildings also had to comply with the prescribed ventila tion legislation after this renovation posed an additional challenge.” For the continuous supply of fresh air for the ventilation system per residential unit, window ventilation grilles had to be included according to the specification sheet. Reliance on glass louvre (panels) was not an option for the client and this is where Invisivent NL from Renson came in. This could be fitted on top of the frames as inconspicuously as possible, retaining optimum natural light.
The PWS blocks became a major pilot project as the around 360 Invisivent window ventilation grilles were custom designed in such a way - as a single unit with the frames - that they could be fitted against the mounting frame. Thanks to Invisivent NL from Renson this is now available as standard but here we have a project solution combined with plastic frames. Specifically, this ‘Invisivent NL forerunner’ on the sides and on top featured a rebate profile – as a single unit with the frame – in order to enable windproof and waterproof installation against the mounting frame. Arnold Van Der Meij: “In addition, for this project the acoustic variant of the Invisivent window grilles was chosen, specifically designed to comply with the acoustic requirements for aspects with high noise levels in combination with the right ventilation flow rate. In any case, in our view this partnership with Renson delivered an attractive end result and a satisfied customer.”

CURVED LINIUS BLADES Horizontal facade cladding
Today’s designs often call for expressive forms giving a building a specific look. Renson has developed a curved assembly system that allows the architect’s creativity to be transformed into reality. Blade types L.033.01, L.033HF, L.050.00 and L.050HF can be delivered with a minimal outer radius of 800 mm. In addition, blade types L.033.01 and L.050.00 can also be curved with a minimal inner radius of 800 mm. The success of this type of particular projects always depends on a smooth collaboration between the contractor and a team of dedicated Renson designers, preferably in the earliest possible stage of a project.

LINARTE CURVED Vertical facade cladding
OUT
Aluminium facade cladding with minimalist vertical lines. The profiles are available in different shapes and numerous colours, which can be combi ned differently. The facade can be personalized by integrating LED strips or wooden inserts. Garage doors and house doors integrate smoothly into a single flush facade surface, as well as functional elements, such as a letterboy, intercom or doorbell. Thanks to the individual profiles, you can even finish curved facades and because of the high-quality finish, they are also suitable for indoor applications.
