What was your vision when you initiated this program? We initiated the People Planet and Possibilities (P3) program with the objective of driving a positive change in our spheres of influence- our workplace, our community and planet. We believe that the unlimited ‘Possibilities’ which lie untapped in our world can be realized by working with and for ‘People’, to create a better ‘Planet’. Our Flagship Initiative School Adoption Program Our flagship initiative, the ‘School Adoption Program’ has grown over the years, both in reach and impact. The long-term vision of the program to provide quality education to children and its impact can be witnessed through the story of the Garudacharpalya school, a under resourced government school in Bangalore.

Case Study Gardudacharpalya Government School was one of the first schools adopted by India COE in 2011 as part of its school adoption program. At that time, the school lacked basic infrastructure, academic program and trained teachers leading to high drop-out rates. Through India COE’s need based interventions, restrooms and hygienic sanitation facilities were put in place; a structured curriculum was developed; and teacher training and computer classes started. Today the school stands proud with 67% increase in students clearing grades, 10% increase in girls’ admission and 20% students pursuing higher education. With the aim to replicate the success achieved in Garudacharpalya government school, the School Adoption Program now extends to 33 schools in Bangalore and Pune benefitting over 6000 children. With the objective of addressing the academic and infrastructure needs in the schools , India COE has supported these schools with numerous programs that include- ‘Digital Literacy ’, ‘Mobile Science Van ’, ‘Library In A Bag’, ‘Health Screening’ ‘Sanitation Awareness and Restroom Construction’

One of the key drivers for the success of the ‘School Adoption Program’ is the work done by our dedicated volunteers from each business unit at India COE who plan and execute all initiatives to facilitate the learning of the children. Each business unit adopts a school, taking full ownership for the assessment, execution and sustenance of all interventions, whether academic or infrastructure-related, with the goal to help underprivileged children realize their dream of a brighter future. This year alone, around 1,300 volunteers contributed over 6,500 hours to successfully deliver academic classes, mentoring, administration support and so much more.

The RSA team continued their active engagement with the students and teachers of the school. The volunteering activities for 2016 were kick-started with Arambha – The Beginning, a program to help children experience the essence of working in a corporate environment. The program included a tour of the lab and library as well as presentation development training on PowerPoint. This proved to be a wholesome and enriching experience for the students. Volunteers also conducted regular classes on letter writing and grammar, supplementing the teaching with hand-outs, tests and refresher classes to address the gaps in learning.

Healthy Children Learn Better In 2016, we launched the Health Screening Program for underprivileged children in collaboration with Trinity Care Foundation, a partner nonprofit organization. As part of the program, first aid kits were provided to 30 schools in Bangalore that are adopted by India COE. In addition to this, oral health kits were distributed to over 6,000 children and eye and dental checkups were conducted. To ensure adoption of proper hygiene and sanitation by the children, awareness sessions and workshops were also organized with assistance from volunteers.

One of our landmark initiatives, the School Kit Donation Drive was again organized this year in collaboration with Youth For Seva, a non-profit partner. School kits consisting of school bags, notebooks and basic stationery items were sponsored by volunteers and donated to the less privileged children at the beginning of the school year. The purpose of the program was to motivate the students as they get ready to resume classes and facilitate lower dropout rates by helping the less fortunate students. The excitement of the students was reflected not only in their smiles but also in the enthusiasm of the volunteers.

Championing Equity In Education India COE has also launched programs to empower and educate children not part of the School Adoption program. In collaboration with APD, a non-profit partner, we launched a program to create an inclusive learning environment for disabled students by enabling them with individual education and rehabilitation plans. 115 students attending private or government schools are supported through this engagement that also involves capacity building sessions for parents, peers and teachers. The program also includes the setting up a community learning center for 30 children with severe disabilities, where they are trained to enhance their motor skills to perform day-to-day activities. Additionally, we also support the education of 60 orphan children studying in private schools (with SOS Children’s Villages of India and Reaching Hand) over 300 children in 10 learning centers (with Youth For Seva). These learning centers serve as after-school tuition centers with the objective to lower dropout rates and provide quality education such that the children are at par with their peers.

Return Of The Superheros At the heart of India COE’s numerous community involvement initiatives are our volunteers who through their relentless passion and support, work towards the cause of the underprivileged children. To honour and celebrate our superheroes’ spirit of ‘Giving Back’ , we organized the ‘The Return of Superheroes’ event. The event brought together volunteers, non-profit partners and the children, all of whom led to the success of our initiatives. India COE Responds To Tamil Nadu Floods In 2016, unprecedented torrential rains in coastal Tamil Nadu resulted in the rivers and water reservoirs to overflow; causing havoc- destroying life, shelter, infrastructure and livelihood of the people in Chennai, Villupuram, Tiruvallur and Cuddalore and other districts of Tamil Nadu. India COE stepped in to contribute to the relief and rehabilitation efforts in the region. We have extended support to 5 government schools in Cuddalore to assist with the renovation of the sanitation infrastructure impacting over 900 students. Sanitation awareness programs and effective waste management systems have been put in place in the schools to inculcate hygienic practices in children. The goal of this program is to transform the 5 schools into model schools and eradicate open defecation by students.

2016 Footprints India COE’s vision of Environmental Sustainability is rooted in a world where responsible individuals and organizations are empowered to make conscious choices that will positively affect the future. Last year, we decided to direct our efforts towards the three areas of the resource triangles that we consume - waste, water and community ecology. This year, we have undertaken some key projects under Environmental Sustainability. The issue of Bangalore city’s rapidly depleting lakes due to infrastructure development in the city is one that requires urgent action. Working in support and collaboration with NGOs- India COE has, for the first time, adopted three lakes in the city-Seegehalli lake, Mahadevpura lake and Kaikondrahalli lake

Seegehalli Lake Gets A Makeover India COE partnered with United Way Bengaluru for restoring the Seegehalli Lake. Our intent is to work towards the rejuvenation of the Seegehalli lake and revival of the lake’s bio diversity. With India COE’s involvement, we are trying to revive the dying lake body by means of multiple interventions over a period of 3 years. This project was inaugurated on 30th November 2016 and is our first step towards working in the area of ‘water’ under our environmental sustainability initiatives this year. In February, a ‘Cleanliness Drive’ was organized at Seegehalli lake with 50 enthusiastic volunteers from India COE. Some volunteers engaged in de-weeding processes and others helped in clearing nonbiodegradable waste from the lake’s surroundings. The project will continue over the next 3 years and assures maintenance of the lake

India COE Landscapes The Kaikondrahalli Lake
India COE has adopted Kaikondrahalli Lake in collaboration with MAPSAS. The project involves the creation of a “green spot� for composting and landscaping of a herb garden around the lake. Regular de-weeding and maintenance of plants will be ensured. A green spot will also be created for composting 1.5-2 tonnes of leaf litter generated per day. A herb garden will also be set up with approximately 1,200 varieties of plants including 40 varieties of medicinal herbs such as Tulsi, Lemongrass, Amruthaballi etc.

Waste management is currently an area of environmental concern in the city. India COE has been passionately involved with waste management and the empowerment of waste pickers. In 2016, India COE partnered with the NGO Hasirudala, for a project on ‘waste management’. The project focuses on the empowerment of waste pickers by providing access to social security schemes and enhancing the nutrition levels of these waste pickers. The program also involves the setting up of a community library for the children of the waste pickers with the aim of inculcating a reading habit among these children. As of today, we have reached out to about 100 children. A key component of the project is the upgradation of a dry waste collection centre (DWCC) . With India COE’s involvement; the DWCC has been upgraded with state of the art technology and facilities that Healthy Ecosystems

Pradeep is Deaf-blind and Naveen is Deaf-Low vision. In 2015, they joined Dell EMC India COE as interns part of the ‘Redefine Abilities’ initiative by DERG. Despite all odds and their severe disabilities, they have excelled in their careers and have paved a way for persons with disabilities to shine in the workplace. Since their induction into the IT department, several training efforts had been taken up to make the environment more accessible and sensitive to their needs. This growth story is a real example of how India COE inspires and facilitates diversity and inclusion in the workplace.

The Global Services team from India COE collaborated with the NGO “Association of People with Disability� (APD) to provide support to 50 students in taking their examinations. Volunteers assisted students in various capacities such as translating questions through sign language for hearing-impaired students to writing exams for students suffering from cerebral palsy. The week-long initiative not only enabled students to demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of a topic but also instilled a sense of confidence among them.

With the support of family and friends, she began to view this dire statement as a challenge and found her purpose in life. “I’ve been reborn to run. I’m not physically challenged – I’m a challenger”, she says. Her drive for success keeps getting stronger and she is now training for longer runs. “Joining EMC is a dream come true”, Kiran adds. She knew of EMC’s brand as a top IT firm and was aware of its initiatives in the diversity space. Both factors motivated her to join the company.

Ancil Rishi Pinto The star deaf and mute cricketer from Bangalore
India COE’s Ancil Rishi Pinto is a medium pace bowler who also works in the finance department at Bangalore center. While he has added several feathers to his athletic cap, the latest is selection as captain of the Delhi team in the ‘Indian Deaf Premier League’ (IDPL). Hearing and speech impaired by birth, Ancil has never let anything come in the way of his sporting career. He has represented India in tournaments like the ‘World Cup for the Deaf’, has trained at the Brijesh Patel Cricket Academy in Bangalore and continues playing corporate cricket to date. Ancil joined heritage EMC in 2002 and says he is very happy working here.

Promoting STEM Education With The Scholar’s Program Meet
Launched in 2016, India COE continues to support its ‘Scholars Program’, which provides equal educational opportunities to youth from weaker socio-economic brackets. In its first year, the initiative worked in collaboration with Foundation for Excellence (FFE) to provide financial support and mentorship to 50 students from the STEM discipline. This year, the same support was extended to 50 additional students from JSS Polytechnic for the Differently Abled (Mysore) to pursue STEM. The initiative encourages students to become “job creators” rather than “job seekers”.

MMHC is a progressive, innovative program to preventively screen women for 7 Non-Communicable Diseases: oral, breast and cervical disorders, hypertension, diabetes, hormonal disorders and vision disorders. Women suspected of any of these non-communicable diseases will be referred to specialist doctors at secondary and tertiary hospitals to be diagnosed and treated. of being associated with the school and kids gave me enough strength to go beyond my expectation to meet the Head Master and Kids in Muttsandra School and re-launch the CSR activities effectively. I have visited the school personally and did analysis of the need & the requirement to accomplish in the year 2016 and we have focused mainly on Spoken English, Computer Education & Cleanliness. We had few enthusiastic volunteers visiting the schools once a month. I have received great respect and co-operation from the school to run this program seamlessly.
