BIRKENHEAD SOCIAL LIBRARY The library is located at a disused tunnel, Birkenhead, UK. It used to be the connection with the nearby city, Liverpool. The city has grown and developed through a strong connection with industry. Industry buildings, especially factories have located along the river side, which now is more like a huge wild empty space. Besides, there is not any proper public space in the small town. The town is currently under a regeneration project, which will transform Birkenhead into a world class waterfront. In general, the unemployment rate of the town is quiet high, people suffer from low income. Besides that, the education level is also lower than the National Average. The main age groups of the town are young teenagers and working adults.
MASTER PLAN EDUCATION
The idea of the town master-plan is to let it grow along its industry root- to a high technology town.

BUILDING DESIGN
The idea of this library is to prepare public a place where they could communicate, a place grown from their roots, a place make them who are they. Specific program related on engineering study and personal development has been introduced, for the main population is the young teenager and the low income working adults. The idea of social learning has been achieved from the central atrium, the layout of the program, and a public access route through the site. The form and the orientation is to follow the site existing hundred years old grid line. The contrast of the ‘boxing’outside and the ‘oval’ inside is to reflect the idea of an “ENGINE“ - what you see from the outside is different from what you feel from the inside.
THE INSTITUTE OF USE
This Institute centre is at the middle of Wales, UK. The primary principles for this centre is to provide a creative education environment. For people who come to the centre at first time, the forest and the landscape have become their first impression. The mysterious and uncertain feeling of the woodland is the first drive to encourage the public to discover and explore. Hence, the design intent for the project is to make the institute grow from its surroundings , a mysterious journey start from the car park to the end of workshop. The adventure make the landscape and the building one entity. The exploring spirit not only exists outside, but also has flowed into the space to encourage the public to observe, think and learn.
ARTS AND CULTURE CENTRE
This arts and cultural centre was designed to be an artists’ reflection journey to encourage the public to learn more about the artists. The main design strategy was to create a mountain-like building featured in a climbing up journey which represents the life journey for artist The journey consisted of three parts - mountain bottom, mountain body and mountain peak. Public would be welcomed into the building by a three - level layering greenery. The body of the mountain was a featured communal space which encouraged the interaction between different levels. The idea of “mountain like” feeling was mainly achieved by using a staggering effect.
SMART HOME
This is a 3D digital twin generated according to existing building through point cloud data. It aims to provide smart application for the residents, such as building performance analysis, electricity and water usage, furniture& spacial renovation. The main procedures are: -Using Lidar scanner (outdoor ), Hand-held scanner ( indoor), and Drone photogrammery(rooftop) to generate 360 point clouds. - Regenerate building structure according to point cloud data (using sketchup and V-ray). - Render and Geo - locate building at real world location
