THE ROSE KENNEDY GREENWAY The Rose Kennedy Greenway was constructed as part of the Centeral Artery/ Tunnel Project; a megaproject in the heart of Boston, which was completed in 2007. The greenway is made up of over 24km of parkland, located in the vacant space created after the Iintersate 93 highway was rerouted. The greenway is known for its art installations, including the Split Dodecohedron Sculpture sculpture, and Harbor Fog Sculpture. Numerous fountains such as the rings fountain and the labyrinth fountain are also found in the park. These are part of what makes the greenway a park designed for exploring and adventure, with its many suprises hidden along its length.
BOSTON
SPLIT DODCOHEDRON SCULPTURE
The purpose of this booklet is to show the impact that the greenway has on LABYRINTH the city of Boston. A point cloud will FOUNTAIN be the primary way of reperesenting this, and is used as a way to visualise and explore the site.

The greenway is still surrounded by roads, but these carry a much lower volume of traffic.
PROCESS Point cloud models can be constructed using the data gathered from LiDAR scanning. For this model, the LiDAR data was downloaded from the NOAA website, and Cloud Compare was used to build the model. THE UNEDITED MODEL

THE FINISHED MODEL
MODEL The model is a semi-realistic reperesentation of part of the Rose Kennedy Greenway and the surrounding cityscape. It is intended to convey the overall impact that the greenway has on the city.
PLAN VIEW This view shows the way in which the greenway (hilighted in light green) breaks the more rigid format of the city blocks. This is somethig which came unintentionally, as the park follows the route of the highway preceeding it.
ANALYSIS ACCESS
CULTURE
Since the high vehicle volumes that used to pass throught the site have been diverted ungerground, above ground traffic is able to move in a more conventional city pattern. The greenway also provides an important link for pedestrian traffic, connecting the wharfs to the city.
The two sites hilighted are the historical Quincy Market (left), and the New England Aquarium (left). The greenway provides an important connection point between these two well known sites.
OPEN SPACE
VEGETATION
In this part of the city, the only two other major parks are smaller and spread apart. The greenway provides a large and continuous park that serves a large portion of the local community.
A part of the construction of the greenway included the planting of a large number of trees. As the greenway was only completed in 2007 however, many of the trees are smaller than compared to some of the adjasent trees.
CONCLUSON Before the Centeral Artery/ Tunnel Project, the site where The Rose Kennedy Greenway now sits was a highway. This project has both addressed the need for large high volume roads by rerouting and tunneling, and in the process created a new park for the city. Identified in this booklet, three of the main advantages that the greenway have brought to the city include: - The creation of greenspace and large scale planting, leading to increased amendity and environmental gain. - Greater access for both vehicles and pedestrians, making it possible to easily walk from the downtown area to the wharfs. - And the creation of a new cultural hub for the city, where people can gather, explore and connect. Few negative impacts have been brought up from this exploration, although it should be noted that the project was expensive, and took 25 years to complete, including work to divert and tunnel the roads.
