CHOREOGRAPHER'S NOTE
MERGING THEATRE & DANCE a note from the choreographer
I am so thrilled to return to The Rep to serve as Choreographer for the 2022 production of A Christmas Carol. This is such a beautiful adaptation with an inspiring cast of artists. I am honored to work alongside this remarkable creative team to bring new life to this production under the leadership of the brilliant Director, Hana Sharif. This collaboration is very special to me as I have the opportunity to merge my loves of theater and dance. It also brings my artistic families: The Rep, COCA, and The Big Muddy Dance Company into the same space! I’m particularly proud to have two artists from Big Muddy in the cast this year as it has inspired them to explore new levels of their artistry and their connection to movement and storytelling.

This year, I focused on the symbolism of the ghost dancers. We worked on their character development, elevated the movement vocabulary, and created complex choreographic patterns. I worked with the dancers to establish an invigorating arch of dance and storytelling to guide Scrooge into the dream sequence where he begins his journey towards redemption. The level of collaboration that has gone into mounting this poignant story is a testament to The Rep’s dedication to artistic excellence and I look forward to future collaborations!
