Curing Kids Cancer and the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta have announced the $1.5 million endowment of the Killian Owen/ Curing Kids Cancer Clinical Research Center at Children’s at Scottish Rite. Killian, who passed away in July 2003 at the age of 9, is the inspiration for the Atlanta-based non-profit Curing Kids Cancer.
With a sold-out attendance of more than 700 community leaders, the 4th annual White Coat Grady Gala raised $1.26 million for the Grady Health System last month. Donations support the Grady Health System’s vision to become the leading public academic healthcare system in the US.
Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and Emory Healthcare are partnering to launch the Congenital Heart Center of Georgia (CHCG). One of the largest programs in the
United States and the first in Georgia, the Congenital Heart Center of Georgia is a comprehensive program for children and adults with CHD, providing a continuum of lifesaving care from before birth through adulthood.
Piedmont Atlanta Hospital has received a grant of $25,000 from It’s The Journey, Inc., producers of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. The grant will fund genetic counseling and testing for eligible, high-risk individuals who are underserved, uninsured and live south of Piedmont Atlanta Hospital.
Emory University Hospital and Emory University Hospital Midtown have received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline Heart Attack Receiving Center Accreditation. The program recognizes hospitals that treat the most severe type of heart attack known as STEMI, in which blood flow is completely blocked to part of the heart.
