East Providence News Briefs By Bob Rodericks

EP Public Schools Launches Public Campaign for New High School

School officials launched a three-month public information and engagement campaign to promote awareness about the proposed construction of a new East Providence High School (EPHS). The campaign is designed to educate residents about the November 6th, 2018 referendum vote for a $189.5 million bond to finance the project. The Rhode Island Department of Education (RIDE) has granted preliminary approval of the city's application to replace the existing East Providence High School and Career and Technical Center with a new, state-of-the-art comprehensive high school. Under the State's new School Construction Program, initiated to renovate and replace public schools in disrepair across Rhode Island, East Providence has an opportunity to receive as much as 74 percent State reimbursement for the project. In order for the project to move forward, voters must approve the State and local school construction bond referendum measures on November 6th. Earlier this summer, the East Providence Building Committee overseeing the project selected East Providence-based Peregrine Group as the Owner's Project Manager and Providence-based Gilbane Building Co. as the Construction Manager at Risk. The Gilbane team is working with Superintendent Kathryn Crowley and other district officials to design and launch the public information and engagement campaign, which features the slogan, "Pride in Our Schools, Commitment to Our Community." The campaign began with an with an information booth at The Looff Arts Festival held on Saturday, August 11th.

Additionally the School Department Plans:

• Two community forums open the public, with presentations and opportunities for questions and comments: Tuesday, September 18 and Monday, October 15, both 6 – 8 p.m. in the high school auditorium, 2000 Pawtucket Ave.; • A series of information sessions for every school in the district and other community groups; • A website, www.epbuildingcommittee.com, to serve as a digital hub of information about the project (in development);

• Facebook and Twitter accounts, providing ongoing news and announcements about campaign activities; • Periodic e-mail updates to families, staff, and community members; and A suite of print and digital informational materials, in English and other languages, including fact sheets and answers to Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) will be distributed across the city. A school department press statement stated that while voters will be asked to approve the total cost of the project, not to exceed $189.5 million, the new State program will provide partial reimbursement, ranging from 54 percent to 74 percent of eligible costs. “This project represents a tremendous opportunity to invest in our students, our schools, and the future of East Providence," said Superintendent Crowley. "We're excited to launch this campaign to inform the entire community about the unique chance we have to receive the State funding needed to replace our outdated high school building with a brand new facility." The new educational and athletics facilities would be built on the existing site, with an anticipated opening in the Fall of 2021, followed by demolition of the existing buildings. The project is designed to feature flexible classroom spaces for collaborative teaching and learning. In addition to the core curriculum, the new school will offer a range of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs, including new and expanded specialties in automotive technology, culinary arts, forensic science, graphic communications, marine biology, and more. New athletics facilities will include a football stadium, track, and soccer, baseball, softball, and lacrosse fields, as well as a gymnasium with three basketball courts, plus an indoor walking track available for community use.

“We are looking forward to another exciting school year . Here are a few notes to bring you up to date on what we have been doing over the last several months. One issue on everyone’s mind is school safety. Schools already provide the safest environment for most children but we want to make them even safer. For the new year, all schools have had safety upgrades. A security guard has been added to the High School, a new phone system installed in all schools with security upgrades, and sprinklers will be added to three schools. We have applied for a grant from the Department of Education that will allow us to have new intercom systems and identification badges along with other safety enhancements.

The start of the 2018-2019 school year will see some new administrative assignments in the schools. The department is also gearing up to seek support for a bond issue which will provide the community with a new East Providence High School. JOE SERODIO

Candidate for State Representative – District 64 “A time to give back to the community he is proud to call home”

Joe and his parents came to Rhode Island in 1961 from Sao Miguel, Azores to follow the American Dream. That was also the year that John F. Kennedy was sworn in as the 35th President of the United States and Joe remembers how impressed he was to hear the young President’s inaugural call to action, “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.” Joe never forgot those words; consequently, the impetus for his running for state representative of district 64. He feels strongly that this is the time to give back to the community that he is proud to call home. Joe has lived in East Providence (in this same district) most of his life. He and his wife Ana raised their family, son Joe and daughter Carla, here in East Providence. He worked many years in the auto industry and subsequently established several successful businesses in the city. The first business was the East Providence Driving School which he ran for twenty years. His love to travel led him to open America Travel on Warren Avenue which served the community with all their travel needs. The company also founded Azores Express in partnership with the regional government of the Azores. Joe is an active “listener” and he knows well the challenges and hardships facing working families, small businesses, and senior citizens on fixed incomes. Joe’s success in the business sector demonstrates that he has the motivation, leadership skills and capabilities to serve in the Rhode Island General Assembly and be a strong voice for all the residents of District 64. If elected state representative, he will take steps to work on the following priority areas. LABOR: Seek incentives for businesses to bring in good paying jobs, and support equal pay for equal work. BUSINESS: Seek regulatory relief for businesses wanting to either expand or move to East Providence, and identify training resources for workers. EDUCATION: Secure adequate state funding for East Providence public schools (Pre-k through 12). Work with our federal delegation to obtain additional school safety resources for all our schools. All students and teachers deserve the best environment for learning and teaching. Work to keep our state university and college tuition affordable for students and working families. Continue investment in our pre-k through 12 and Higher Education system which is absolutely essential to help business find skilled workers and build our economy. ADVOCACY: Work with state agencies to ensure that veterans and senior citizens are knowledgeable of programs and services available to them in our community. Work with city officials to preserve East Providence as an environmentally safe and clean community and seek additional state and federal resources to assist with road and sidewalk repair. Joe Serodio will work hard to be your voice at the state house. Please do not forget to vote in the Democratic Primary on Wednesday, September 12, 2018.

Joe

SERODIO Endorsed Democrat for STATE REPRESENTATIVE DISTRICT 64

Joe Serodio

Live, Work, Play - City Amends Plans from "Retail" to "Mixed Use"

The city council voted to amend its Comprehensive Plan from a zoning requirement of just “Retail” to a broader “Mixed Use.” At its August 21st meeting the council approved a request from the Carpionato Group to develop the mostly vacant Narragansett Park Plaza in Rumford. The parcel used to house the former Narragansett Racetrack and a now vacant Stop & Shop super store. Kelly Coates, president and chief operating officer at the Carpionato Group, urged the City Council approve a series of requests from the company as it seeks to redevelop the sprawling commercial property on the Pawtucket/East Providence line. Coates and other company executives told the council that the project would rival its highly successful Chapel View in Cranston, RI. The transit-oriented site at the Pawtucket/East Providence line would be "a different version" of what's been accomplished in Cranston, with varying demographics, but also "exactly the same," said Coates. “Chapel View, a 420,000 square foot lifestyle center, located in Cranston, Rhode Island. Since the debut of the first phase in 2008 and through subsequent phases, Carpionato Properties has crafted an enchanting village, creating the vibrant mix of retail, first-class office space and exclusive high-end condominiums,” said company press releases. Details involve 119, square feet of office space, 240,770 square feet of retail and restaurant space, a drive-through restaurant and 70 residential units. “It certainly is working in Cranston, where the Chapel View lifestyle center is one of the most vibrant mixeduse developments in the state,” said Coates. “Chapel View has never lost an office tenant, and rents are higher than every office in downtown Providence,” he said. In Cranston, office tenants are treated to garage parking and secure access to spaces, all with great surrounding amenities companies are looking for. The 470,000-square-foot development is responsible for creating some 1,000 jobs on site, said a company statement. “The transit-oriented site at the Pawtucket/East Providence line would be "a different version" of what's been accomplished in Cranston, with varying demographics, but also "exactly the same," said Coates. Coates mentioned the proximity of the Newport Avenue location to the South Attleboro train station and nearby Route 95 access. The parcel of land in question is 22 acres in size with 14.4 acres located in East Providence. It is a joint development needing the approval of both Pawtucket and East Providence. The developer now has approval from both cities to proceed. The proposals required approvals in the city Comprehensive Plan, Map rezoning and text language.

However, other sites may apply for and use this model as a template for development. No one spoke against the proposal while several in the council audience were approving. The owners of Simpson’s Pharmacy spoke before the council and voiced concerns about traffic pattern changes and how they may affect their business located across the street from the proposed development. “We aren’t negative, we support this plan. We just want to protect our long time business,” they said. The plan still has a few minor approvals to ascertain but is essentially approved.

Late Summer Police Updates

Police Chief/Acting City Manager Chris Parella and Detective Lt. Raymond Blinn have recently issued press releases regarding local arrests:

Video Voyeurism:

On 7/13/18 the East Providence Police Department arrested Derrick Calvano, age 47, of Dighton, MA on the charges of Intentional Computer Access and Video Voyeurism. On 7/11/18 the East Providence Police Department received a complaint from a female who stated that she had just moved into her apartment and that she was having Verizon installed. Calvano, who was the Verizon tech, was doing the installation. At one point during the installation, Calvano asked the female if she had any devices that she wanted to connect with her Verizon services. The female stated she did and handed her personal i-Pad over to Calvano so he could connect her device. A short time later, after handing over her i-Pad to Calvano, she received a text message on her i-phone alerting her to a video that had just been sent from her i-Pad to an unknown number with a 508 area code. The message, which was of a very sensitive and personal nature, had been sent during the time that Calvano had her i-Pad. continued on page 10...

Washington Bridge Road Work Confounds EP Traffic

The Rhode Island Department of Transportaion Route 195 bridge and road repair work has snarled traffic through East Providence since it began in August. RIDOT stated that “Although work has been ongoing underneath the bridge for about a year, a new phase of work on the bridge rehabilitation project for the portion of the Washington Bridge that carries westbound traffic from East Providence to Providence starts on August 6, 2018. The work includes building a temporary on-ramp for motorists to use for access to I-195 west from Taunton Avenue/Route 44. This will be followed by a series of traffic pattern changes to accommodate the work. The Gano Street off-ramp (Exit 3) will be closed and the temporary on ramp will open around August 20. The regular on-ramp from Taunton Avenue will be closed. These changes will be in place until Fall of 2019. This part of the Washington Bridge is a separate structure from the eastbound portion which RIDOT replaced in the late 2000s. The last major rehabilitation of the westbound portion was 20 years ago. This portion carries 70,000 vehicles daily and is structurally deficient.” Detours are needed for the $22.329 Million project which is scheduled to be completed in 2020. In addition to the road work being performed by the State, local road repair/replacement is being conducted by the City of East Providence. Some work has been completed, others are ongoing. The following is the list of streets scheduled to be improved that was listed on the City of East Providence web site:

Letters to the Editor... More Responses...

What Was the Name of the Restaurant at Gregg's Location Before it was Gregg's?

We had more (different) responses to Joe & Donna Hendricks' letter wanting to know what Gregg's was before: Dear Editor, Many years ago the Gregg’s location was also Emerson's Steak House with a “disco” downstairs. It was called Tickles and had a DJ. I remember dancing many nights away there!!! I hope this helps and brings back some fond memories for your readers. Kristen Mellen,Riverside The answer? Drum roll please,...……….. In the 1960s it was known as Cranshaw's Restaurant. I've got a photographic memory, so, you can take that to the bank! Now, what did I win for getting the right answer? Emerson Steak House, 1970’s anonymous Greggs was previously called the Bagpiper Restaurant, but prior to that it was called the Steak and Brew! Sent in by Deborah Renaud I been in EP for 18 years and Gregg’s was always Gregg’s to me. What i can rule out is that it was not a Red Lobster. Davenport’s was Red Lobster and i will put money on that. Since they are close someone might of been confused on that. Vote for Chrissy Rossi Wednesday, September 12th

EP has made great advancements in recent years but with a new high school looming on the November ballot, it’s time to hit the gas! We are going to need to up our game like never before. If this bond referendum passes for a new high school, the good people of our city can expect a 4% tax increase each year, for the next 5 years, to pay for it. A little quick math (not new math, that’s not quick) and you will conclude that it’s a 20% tax increase. Unless we tap a new income stream through new businesses into the city or some serious grant money, that increase will fall squarely on the shoulders of you and I, the average taxpayer. Think long and hard before you fill in those bubbles on your ballot. We can’t afford on the job training for our first Mayor. Vote for the candidate with the experience, energy and enthusiasm to make East Providence a destination. Vote for Chrissy Rossi, September 12th. Chrissy Rossi

Vote for Dave O'Connell

I am happy that the League of Women Voters is holding an open debate for all East Providence candidates for public office in the evening of September 5 at Martin Middle School. I look forward to hearing urgent questions from local residents and offering my views and positions to address their issues. Unfortunately, my opponent Jose Serodio has decided not to participate in this public forum, and so has chosen not to hear and respond to the pressing concerns of the people he wantss to vote for him. When a person enters the contest to run for an office in the Rhode Island General Assembly, it should be his top priority to be ready to face his constituents in a public forum and to respond to their questions clearly and intelligently. I am sure that all East Providence residents are as disappointed as I am in my opponent for ignoring this important local debate. Meanwhile, I am always interested is hearing from and responding to the concerns of my fellow Townies. Elect Aaron Regungerg for Lt. Governor

There is a political race this year that dramatically differentiates two candidates running against each other. They are both Democrats, so the election that counts is the Primary on Wednesday, September 12th. We will have a real choice. Aaron Regunberg, a young State Representative from Providence, has decided to run for Lt. Governor because he believes we have to shake up the status quo. The priorities of Rhode Islanders must always be front and center in government, not the interests of corporate lobbyists and political insiders. The incumbent is part of an entrenched bunch of politicians that have not served our State well. Aaron has consistently fought for the working middle class in Rhode Island. He has fought for and is responsible for: raising Rhode Island’s minimum wage (his bill passed!), paid sick days for all workers (his bill passed!) protecting a women’s’ right to choose, and obtaining Universal Health Care. He has fought for common sense gun laws. Today, anyone who walks into a gun show at a hall/hotel, can purchase a gun without a background check. Today, anyone 18 years old can legally buy an assault weapon - guns that are made to kill. Today, anyone can buy a bump-stock over the internet – a part specifically for making a semi-automatic weapon into a fully automatic weapon – used by the Los Vegas shooter. Aaron has introduced and supported bills in the House of Representatives to address all these issues. Aaron believes in common sense gun laws-not potentially deadly ones. State Representative, Aaron Regunberg, does not believe corporate lobbyists should be allowed to donate huge sums to politicians. He has pledged to take no donation from corporations. As your Lt. Governor, he will introduce legislation to do away with this entrenched political way of doing business. He will open the doors of government to the sunlight and will be clearly accountable for his actions. We need to start electing young energetic people who will fight for open government. We need to elect Aaron Regungerg for Lt. Governor. Respectfully submitted, Sandy Barone (former State Representative) Rumford, RI 02916

EPHS To Induct Five

Public Invited - Dinner/Ceremony on October 14th, 2018 By Bob Rodericks

The 35th East Providence High School Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be held on Sunday, October 14, 2018. The dinner/ ceremony will be held at the Venus De Milo restaurant in Swansea, Massachusetts at 12 noon. The Hall of Fame was established in conjunction with the East Providence High School 1984 Centennial year. The HOF was created by former Superintendent of Schools Myron J. Francis, Class of 1947 and others in an effort to promote pride in city schools. The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to recognize Townie graduates who have brought honor to themselves and to the High School. The initial group of HOF inductees consisted of twelve graduates. The Committee continuously seeks nominations from the general public as “we hope to identify and expand our focus on those many meritorious Townie graduates.” Currently inductees are limited to 5 each year and possibly one honorary. In addition to honoring new members with certificates and pins at the Induction Ceremony, plaques bearing the likeness of each inductee will be enshrined in the Gymnasium and Auditorium lobby at East Providence High School. The committee program states further that “The Hall of Fame is not a one-time effort to honor successful graduates. Rather, it is a lasting memorial to TOWNIE PRIDE, which will purposely serve as an inspiration for future generations of East Providence High School students.” The 2018 Inductees are: Suzana “Suzy” Alba, Class of 2000; Mark Crevier, Class of 1968; Steven Martin, Class of 1966; Donna Tente, Class of 1976 and James Russo, Honorary.

Local Barbershop Chorus To Host New Singers Night Harmony Heritage Chorus Welcomes Female Singers On September 18th

Pawtucket, Rhode Island, August 18, 2018 — Harmony Heritage Chorus, the Pawtucket, RI chapter of Harmony, Incorporated, an international organization of female a cappella singers specializing in the barbershop harmony style, will host a New Singers Night on Tuesday, September 18th. Female singers of all ages and musical backgrounds are encouraged to attend the event, which will take place at 7:15 PM p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 50 Park Place in Pawtucket, RI. “Almost every one of our members came for the music, but each of us stayed for the camaraderie and satisfaction that comes with contributing to an organization like the Harmony Heritage chorus,” says Kim Thompson, chapter president “We welcome women who like to sing, even if it’s just in the privacy of their cars or their showers, to come learn a little about a musical organization that marries novice singers with experienced performers and has multiple generations standing shoulder-to-shoulder as they share their love for barbershop harmony.” The Harmony Heritage chorus is an award-winning chapter of Harmony, Inc. that performs under the direction of Bob O’Connell, an accomplished director, performer and musician. “It’s important to note that barbershop harmony is often considered the ‘every man’s’ a cappella,” says O’Connell. “Members don’t need to have a lot of musical experience, formal training, or even have the ability to read music. As long as she loves to sing, we have the tools to help her find success in barbershop harmony.” New singers attending will learn about how the different voice parts blend to make that unique barbershop sound and will have an opportunity for voice placement and singing on the risers with the chorus. Parking for this event will be in on street and in the municipal lot on Park Place, both a short walk from the church. Harmony Heritage chorus primarily sings in the barbershop harmony style, which traces its musical roots back to the turn of the 20th century. Today, barbershop harmony singers not only celebrate the classics, but also put their own spin on contemporary songs as well. For more information about Harmony Heritage chorus, visit www.harmonyheritage.org or call Barbara-Ann MacIntosh at 401560-0073 or joyhi@cox.net OR Mary Levasseur at 508-930-5362 or at marylevasseurc21@comcast.net.

People in the News JDP Theatre Co., a Community Theatre

JDP Theatre Co., previously known as de Perla Theatre, was a community program running summer camps and the occasional acting intensive throughout the year. Though the community theater aspect was developed and conducted for the past three years, the shift to JDP Theatre Co was the result of a desire by Judy de Perla to expand theatre into the community. She created and ran a theatre program in East Providence as part of the public school system for 24 years, but expanding that to more participants became important. Now with three partners working together it has become JDP Theatre Co and is giving life to a new and bigger shared vision. JDP Theatre Co strives to be inclusive, accessible, and professional as it does not discriminate in terms of who is eligible to participate. From those who are interested and have never participated in anything theatre related to those who have a great deal of experience, all are welcome. The company leaders specialize in working with performers from ages 10 to 25 and provide members with a sense of freedom, family, and home. Over the years, countless JDP (de Perla Theatre) alumni have moved on to work as professional actors, directors, technical staff throughout Rhode Island and even NYC. Sometimes it seems that everywhere there is theater, there is someone who has a connection with this group. The directors continue to be extremely proud of alumni as well as current participants in terms of what they accomplish. The current year’s program is shaping up nicely and will have many activities scheduled throughout the year. Watch for this growing program at JDP Theatre Co. on Facebook and at www. JDPTheatreCo.com. The following programs will be held in the auditorium at St. Mary’s Episcopal Church with entrance on Fourth St in East Providence. There are two vocal classes scheduled, one on September 11th from 6-8 for intermediates ages 12 – 25 and a second on September 27th from 6-8 for beginners also for ages 12 – 25. There is a Saturday activity as well. This is a Shakespeare Intensive which will be held in that same location beginning October 6th and running through November 10th with a showcase for friends and family at the end of the sessions. It will be conducted by Christin Goff, teaching artist with England’s Royal Shakespeare Company. This will include text reading, vocal training, improvisation, and character/plot delivery.

Finally, the 8-Week JDP Juniors Improv Classes will be held from 4:30-6:30 Wednesday afternoons from September 12th – November 14th ending with a free performance for the public. Anyone interested can find all the necessary information at www.JDP Theatre Co.com.

Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England Dedication of New Cabin at Camp Hoffman: “Dever’s Rest” in Memory of Harriett Dever

On August 9th, 2018 friends and family traveled from near and far to gather at Camp Hoffman for the dedication of a new cabin, Dever’s Rest, which was made possible by a generous gift from F. Harriett Dever. Harriett was a life-long Girl Scout, first as a camper, then counselor, troop leader and volunteered as President of the Girl Scouts Leaders Association. Harriett loved Girl Scouting and Camp Hoffman. Notably, she loved Camp Hoffman so much, she chose to work at a school just so she could have summers off and return each year to Hoffman. Before her passing Harriett generously decided she wanted to give something back to the camp she loved. Her hope was that future generations of girls could enjoy the same outdoor experiences she had as a girl, and continuing into adulthood. The cabin named in her memory, Dever’s Rest, can accommodate up to 20 girls and 4 leaders/counselors and will be available for troop camping in the spring of 2019. After the dedication, dear friends and family enjoyed a lovely reception at nearby Wellville, shared stories and memories of Harriett, and all agreed - Dever’s Rest is a wonderful legacy to Harriett’s memory and a beautiful reminder of what was close to her heart. Breaking the Cycle: Say NO to Sexism

By Pam Hyland, CEO of Girl Scouts of Southeastern New England I am extremely proud of a 12-year old girl I have never met. Her name is Julianne Speyer and she recently wrote a letter to the Editor entitled Sexist Comment—many of you may have seen it circulating on Facebook. Julianne was “offended and disappointed” by the announcer of the Chesterland 4th of July Parade who labeled the Boy Scouts as “future leaders of America” and then proceeded to say the Girl Scouts were “just having fun”. Julianne was moved to speak out as she found these comments to be “sexist and patronizing”. And well she should! In writing her letter she hoped to “let other people know how much this kind of thing happens and how bad it is”. Thank you Julianne for voicing what so many girls and women feel, and for elevating an issue that in my mind is “institutional sexism”. Sexism is so deeply ingrained in our society that many, if not the majority, hardly take notice of such comments because they are accustomed to hearing them. And when people do notice, they often excuse the comments as “unintended” with nothing further said. The only way to break the cycle of something that is institutionally ingrained is to lift up and confront the issue as Julianne has done. Did the announcer intend harm? Doubtful. But did his comments harm? Absolutely! They caused harm to Julianne and others who may have noticed. They caused harm to girls and women who may already feel they are “less than”. In fact, comments like this can cause harm to boys and girls alike who are forming their beliefs about gender roles. Lastly, those words cause harm in perpetuating the untruth that men are leaders and women are not. Since 4th grade I have been a Girl Scout, and I am grateful for every single experience that has challenged me to grow as a leader. This includes challenges posed by today’s Girl Scouts who earn the highest award in Girl Scouting; the Gold Award. Today’s Gold Award Girl Scouts are the impressive female leaders of tomorrow. To earn the Gold Award, a girl must first identify an issue that ignites her passion, similar to the passion with which Julianne spoke out. We’ve witnessed that girls and women lead best when confronted with something in their world that they feel needs to change. When Girl Scouts work to achieve the Gold Award, they must develop and carry out a project that addresses an issue, and provides a solution that is sustainable. The rigor involved in earning the Gold Award is more intense than when I first earned it (known then as “First Class”)

37

and requires that the Girl Scout devote no fewer than 80 hours to her project. Yes, 80. Personally, Gold Award Girl Scouts have challenged me to not use single-use bags that harm the environment; to use less water in carrying out daily tasks like brushing my teeth; to care more about those people who are marginalized; and so much more. In Girl Scouting, it’s truly all about girls. It’s a place where every voice counts, every opinion matters, and the interests and ideas of girls are at the center of everything we do. Someone recently asked me how Girl Scouts remains relevant. We remain relevant because we are girl-led, it’s that easy. Although, maybe not, because it requires that every adult involved in Girl Scouting really listen and set their own self-interests aside. It requires that we listen to girls like Julianne and provide them with the safe space to formulate their ideas about the world and then provide the support they need to lift their voices up. The truth is, Girl Scouts is the ONLY place where girls can have this kind of experience. No other organization is focused exclusively on girls—giving girls the safe space they need to grow, learn, and take the lead. And Julianne’s strong voice is a shining example of how critical it is, now more than ever, for girls to feel empowered and to be heard.

60% today with women now making up 47% of the U.S. workforce. (U.S. Dept. of Labor, 2017). Today, women lead corporations, civic organizations, and universities. They not only vote, but serve at the highest levels of government and participate fully in our political process. Today, everything that we teach in Scouting is applicable to both boys and girls. Girls in Scouting is not new – girls have participated in our Exploring and Venturing programs for teens ages 14-20 for decades. Now, girls will be able to fully benefit from the citizenship, leadership, life skills, outdoor education and character development opportunities that Scouting offers. Our research shows that today’s parents want the benefits of the Scouting program for their sons and daughters. A report from the Pew Research Center shows that 4 in 10 parents want to spend more time with their children. And many young families want to achieve this by participating in activities together. If we don’t make the program accessible to families and remove barriers to their involvement, they won’t participate at all. Beginning this June, families can choose Cub Scouting (grades K-5) for both their sons and daughters. Girls who join will participate in an all-girl group, doing the same activities as the boys and earning the same awards. Boys will continue to be in all-boy groups. continued on page 39...

Family Scouting Means More Options for Families and Girls

East Bay Pressure Wash Co. LLC

By Tim McCandless, Scout Executive & CEO - Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America My three older brothers and I grew up in Scouting and became Eagle Scouts in the 70’s and early 80’s. My sister Marjorie loved Scouting, too. She wanted to be a Scout but was not permitted to participate. Regrettably, she missed out on a major part of our family’s life. Marjorie would have made a great Eagle Scout and that is why I welcome Family Scouting being introduced this year. Let’s be clear - Family Scouting is not coed Scouting. Our model will build on the benefits of a single-gender program and provide our iconic character and leadershipbuilding programs to both boys and girls in gender-specific groups. However, the program will be the same for both boys and girls and busy families will benefit from a new, simplified option. When the Boy Scouts of America started in 1910 women did not have the right to vote. For the most part, women did not serve in leadership roles in business, government or in civic life. “Family camping” was not a popular pastime. In 1910, 23% of women were in the workforce compared to nearly

The Reporter September 2018

September 2018 The Reporter In 2019, we will introduce a new option for girls in grades 6 thru 12 to join troops for girls and give them the opportunity to achieve our highest rank – Eagle Scout. This will be in girl-only troops that are either stand-alone or may be “linked” to, or associated with, existing troops for boys. The experience for boys will not change; troops will be single-gender. This change helps parents that want to serve as volunteer leaders. Busy parents will only need to learn one program, one set of rules, attend one training program, and go to one set of organizational meetings. Parents will find it easier to be involved with their children. For decades, our different programs – Explorers, Venturing, Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts all operated under the umbrella of the Boy Scouts of America. Now, one of those programs will change its name from “Boy Scouts” to “Scouts B.S.A.” The name change is important—calling girls “Boy” Scouts is a misnomer. And what 15-year-old youth likes being called a “boy” or “girl”? These teens are growing, maturing, and developing into young men and women. I embrace the program name change—they’re now “Scouts”. But the name of our organization - Boy Scouts of America - will not change. This new option for families is powerful. Speaking to parents of boys whose daughters joined Cub Scouts this spring, it is rewarding to hear about how they appreciate the opportunity to participate in Scouting together and how grateful they are that their daughters can also benefit from Scouting’s character development programs. More boys and girls will be prepared for success in life! Though my sister, Marjorie, could not be an Eagle Scout, she is excited that we offering our programs to today’s girls and to the entire family. And my niece, Leah, is looking forward to becoming a Cub Scout along with her brother Toby. Tim McCandless is the Scout Executive & CEO of the Narragansett Council, Boy Scouts of America which serves 13,400 youth in Southeastern New England. He is an Eagle Scout and the father of three Eagle Scouts who lives in Bristol, Rhode Island.

conflict between children and more. Use your preferences to guide conversations when you’re ready to take tours. Take Tours. Once you’ve narrowed down your list to a few preferred facilities or programs, schedule tours to check out the spaces, meet the directors and watch how the teachers interact with the children. Keep your requirements in mind and look for clean, safe facilities that focus on nutrition and encourage exploration and reading while building a sense of belonging. If you’re still on the fence or need more information about one or more centers, don’t be afraid to go back for a second visit and ask more questions to ensure you’re picking the right place for your family. Trust Your Instincts. After taking tours, you may have a lot of information to process. Narrowing down what’s right for your family can seem overwhelming at first, but asking yourself questions such as these can help you in the long run: Did you feel listened to, heard and understood? Was the center warm and welcoming? When in doubt, trust your gut. This is your child, after all, and you know him or her best. There’s a reason grownups tend to dress up for special events - when you look good, you feel good. Give your kids that same boost by helping them choose a special outfit for the first day of school that he or she feels comfortable and confident wearing. Shopping for clothes is an opportunity for your child to express individuality, so have fun with it. SPOTLIGHT ON SPORTS by Bob Rodericks

Townie Football Preview 2018

EPHS Head Coach Jay Monteiro offering advice to his players. Head Football coach Jay Monteiro and his staff have been getting the 2018 EP Townies ready for another season. While many students are at the beach or working part time jobs, most Townie football players have spent the dog days of August on the practice field. On the last Saturday in August the Townies were Barrington Head Coach Sandy scrimmaging neighboring Gorham and Townie Coach Jay Barrington High School Monteiro. Both teach Physical at East Providence High Education at EPHS, and are former under a warm sun. “We’ve Townie standout athletes. been dealing with some injuries, one of our captains, Rico DaRosa, has been out with illness. He is a catalyst of our team and since he went down the team has lost some steam, but we’re bouncing back,” said Monteiro. “Our summer camp wasn’t as good as it could have been but we’re getting better. The other captains are pulling up their team mates.” The other captains are Zach Fanara, Cameron Green, Aaron Parson and Anoluwapo Ogunronbi. Ogunronbi is new to football and is a good overall athlete. The team is still working with the quarterback position. Right now Aaron Parson and Justin Pena are sharing quarterback duties. “Right now we’re working with both Pena and Parsons and have choices to make. The strength of our team is our defense and we’re working on a new offense,” said Monteiro. “We’re kind of running a triple option but it’s with a zone not old school offense. We have talented athletes all around which should help us. We do have some size but I’ve told the players you have to play physical. Fast, physical and fearless. We want our kids to understand this.” East Providence remains in the state’s toughest division, where the school has always been. But like most public high schools East Providence has to deal with losing student athletes to the private schools who can take students from anywhere. Some schools

Townie quarterback Dion Hazard Ednilson Silva of EPHS in late August scrimmage vs. Barrington. in scrimmage action last month. have opted to drop a division or two or have been dropped by the state interscholastic league, so as not to face the top private schools. “I want to play the best,” said Monteiro. “Since I’ve been coaching we play all of the private schools as well as the other big public schools. We play Cranston East which is now bigger than we ar. They’ll have 100 kids on the sideline. That’s how it’s been the last few years. Hendricken, Cranston East, North Kingstown, Shea, Cumberland - all tough big schools. LaSalle leads the other side of the division. We want our kids to compete with the best. If we don’t play physical it can be a long year,” added the coach. Monteiro, a 1984 graduate and athlete from East Providence, knows full well the history of football in Rhode Island. He has also coached at the college level. Although reluctant to get deep into the private vs. public school debate, he did lament the loss of several promising East Providence student athletes to the private schools. “I want to play the best but every year it gets tougher and tougher to compete. When every year they come and take your best players, that’s hard. I’m all for a great educational choice for kids, but when they make offers, well it’s hard to compete.” When asked what he says to parents who discuss with him where to send their kids to school, Monteiro speaks positively of East Providence High School. “I’m a public school education guy. I’m a teacher here, my wife teaches here, I support public education. We have certified teachers here who work hard. There are graduates here who go to the best schools in the country. We offer a lot. If you do the right thing as I stress to my players every day, you’ll be okay.” Monteiro is old school tough. He tells his players that they should come to practice hurt or sick. “I tell them that someday when they are working they’ll learn you have to show up most days, even if you don’t want to,” he said. As if on cue, a player came by during our interview and told the coach that he couldn’t make the next practice. “Why not?” The player said he had to work. “Are you going to work in that pizza place the rest of your life?” was the hard sounding question from Monteiro. When the player answered no, Monteiro told him to get his shift changed. “We’re a team, I need you there,” said Monteiro. This too may be a reality for many public schools. Many students have to work and have their free time for sports competing with the need to keep a part time job.

September 2018 The Reporter “Back to your question, yes, I think East Providence offers a quality education. It exists if you want it. Since I’ve been coaching not one kid has failed off the team. Academics is very important to me and my coaches tell the players this all the time. They know,” Monteiro said firmly. “We play at Pierce Stadium, in my opinion the best sports atmosphere in Rhode Island, our gymnasium is clean and bright and I hope that a new high school gets built to really offer our kids the very best in academics and athletics,” offered Monteiro. “Our Athletic Director Gregg Amore stresses academics all the time and he is great in providing for the needs of our student athletes. Absolutely, we have a great school here.” Another change is the annual Thanksgiving Day rivalry with LaSalle. The state has changed the playoff schedule and the “big game” is no longer a league game with almost no meaning to it other than a fading tradition. “Yes it’s watered down now. The playoffs and super bowl are now played before Thanksgiving. The drama is gone. We won last year but they (LaSalle) didn’t play all their starters very much. We’ll play them, it’s sad but it is what it is. Monteiro believes that he could have a special team this year but only if they get more physical up front. With his best player not healthy enough to play yet and the rest of the team still working at improving, it might be a season with many questions. But a season that many Townie fans will enjoy. There is no better atmosphere in Rhode Island for high school sports than at Pierce Stadium on a Friday night. Add the Townie marching band and a couple thousand fans and Friday Night Lights at Pierce is hard to beat. “I really think we can make the playoffs and be very good,” said Monteiro. “We were one game away last year, we have many returning guys who know what we need to do.” Photos by Paul Tumidajski.

(BPT) - A home’s curb appeal leaves a powerful first impression. Yet, according to the recent poll conducted by Ply Gem Building Products, only half of homeowners say their home’s exterior reflects their personality. This is an especially surprising statistic since 81 percent of Americans say the exterior of a home shapes their view of the homeowner. With countless material options and accents like shutters and trim, there are several ways to add color to your home. Replacing old siding with vinyl siding tends to be a popular approach because it can improve the look of an entire home exterior, while also being low maintenance and durable. Before replacing your home’s siding, you may be interested to learn what your color choices say about your personality. The following profiles will provide some insight and inspiration for making big decisions about your home exterior: * Calm, cool, collected = Blue: More than half the population (55 percent) believes the color blue has the most positive impact on their mood, which explains why blue skies are synonymous with peace and happiness. Along these lines, blue siding coordinates easily with a variety of accent colors whether it be white and gray or red and orange. * Safe, certain, dependable = Neutral: Neutrals are the norm when it comes to exterior color preferences. Fifty-three percent of Americans would choose neutral colors such as beige, white or gray for the exterior of their home. In fact, if you want the latest on-trend curb appeal, consider shades of gray, which have grown in popularity by about 5 percent over the past four years. Gray is very versatile - it can easily be mixed and matched with just about any accent color and trim selection. * Brave, confident = Bold: If you want to stand out and make a statement, dramatic siding colors are the way to go. Fifty-five percent of Americans say homes with bold colors belong to people with bold personalities. Recent advances in vinyl siding technology, such as the SolarDefense reflective technology from Ply Gem Mastic, have made it possible to choose daring colors such as deep reds, greens and browns. Are you still unsure about which siding color best suits you? Take the risk out of choosing colors by using an online visualizer tool like the one available from Ply Gem Mastic. The visualizer lets you preview what your color choices will look like on your home before you make a commitment. Colors are important, but don’t forget maintenance. While colors can send a message, that statement can be undermined by a lack of upkeep. Seventy-eight percent of Americans say the maintenance of a home also impacts their first impression of a homeowner. Consider low-maintenance products like vinyl siding, which come in endless color options, but do not require upkeep such as painting or staining. Is it time to make a change? Thirty-seven percent of homeowners say they did not get to choose the exterior siding on their home. If you’re part of that group, what better time than the present to update the look of your house (before the holiday season kicks in)? Doing so could also add significant value to your home. According to the latest cost versus value survey by Remodeling Magazine, upgrading to vinyl siding recoups 76 percent of the project cost on average. For more information on adding personality - and value - to your home, visit www.mastic.com.

5 Yard Updates You Can Complete in a Fall Weekend

(BPT) - If you love spending time in your yard, the end of summer can mark a period of sadness thinking about the colder temperatures and shorter days you must endure before getting back outside. One sure cure for the blues is looking forward to something fun. Get a head start on spring and use the time now to complete a project that will enhance your yard. Whether you’ve been wanting a patio, a zen garden NEW NAME, or just some new flower beds, fall weekends are an ideal time to make it happen. By spring, they’ll be ready and waiting for your finishing touches! With the help of rental equipment, you can get these jobs done in a fraction of the time and with much less of an investment than purchasing expensive tools yourself. Here are five weekend projects you can complete this fall and dream about all winter. * Zen garden: Building a free-standing, minimalist zen garden is a simple but powerfully effective way to add beauty and texture to a lawn or patio. To get a head start in the fall, plan where you’d like to set that rectangle of tranquility in your yard. Once that’s measured and marked off, you can rent a sod cutter to almost effortlessly remove the grass. Before the ground freezes, give that rectangle a stone border, and cover with a tarp. When spring comes, the foundation of your zen space will be ready and waiting for you to add plants, shrubs, gravel, lanterns and maybe a statue or two. * Pond: This fall, choose a sunny spot in your yard to build your pond, and then rent a tool, like a mini-excavator, to move the dirt and even carve out the terraces. September 2018 The Reporter that job is done, you’ll have plenty of time to get the bulk of the project ready for spring, such as adding your sand layer, the waterproof liner and installing the pump. Finally, arrange the rocks to create a beautiful and natural-looking perimeter that’s waiting for spring and the addition of water and plants. * Patio and pergola: When you compare a paver-brick patio with a traditional wood deck, the advantages of the patio are very evident. Patios are easy for do-ityourselfers to complete in a weekend or two, they’re less expensive to build and they’re easier to maintain and repair. You can also add a pergola to create a beautiful space for outdoor dining and entertaining. With the help of a rented post hole digger, you can have the posts in place before the snow flies. * Flower beds: Flower beds add beauty to your yard, but they can accomplish so much more. Wide beds along property lines can create a privacy buffer between you and the rest of the world and increase the curb appeal of your home. Preparing the bed in the fall means less dirt work in the spring, so you can spend that time getting plants in the ground. The good news is, if you decide you want the bed to be bigger, you can just rent a walk-behind skid steer and get the job done quickly. * Fire pit: Nothing’s better than sitting around the fire with friends and loved ones. Fire pits are the ideal fall project because you can start enjoying it almost right away. Whether you add to an existing patio or start new, renting a cement mixer and a paver saw for custom-fitted pieces can help you create a functional new feature in just a weekend or two. the Seekonk River to what is now Providence. Watchemoket is an Indian word meaning the proximity of the river and the tidal marsh… with the feel and smell of the area. In the early years of East Providence, which was then known as Rehoboth, Massachusetts, the site was the best place to cross the river. In 1793, John Brown of Providence built a bridge from Fox Point (Providence) to Bold Point. In 1885, an iron bridge was built which led to development in the area; including an inn followed by over one hundred businesses. By 1906, Watchemoket Square became the central business district of East Providence and covered approximately nine acres of land in the central section of the town.

Francis Farm in Rehoboth to Host Big Country Festival and Public Clambake on September 16th

51

By Cassandra Yany

Francis Farm will be hosting a Public Clambake and Country Festival on Sunday September 16 from 11:00-6:00. Each summer, Francis Farm has four public clambakes, from Father’s Day through September. Their first bake took place in 1890. This festival will be the first big event the farm has done in conjunction with the public bake. This event will bring together families and members of the community of all ages, introducing the tradition of the clambake to younger generations. This event is a great opportunity for older guests to relive and share their childhood memories with the younger members of their family. The farm is handicap accessible, making it easy for all guests to enjoy themselves. In addition to the traditional New England clambake, food options will also include lobster, a BBQ chicken dinner, and kids’ meals of hamburgers or hot dogs with chips. Tickets for the bake must be reserved in advance and can be purchased up until September 9. Visit the Francis Farm Facebook page or call 508-252-3212 for pricing information and to purchase tickets. The bake itself will run from 12-3. There will also be additional food and beverage available to purchase for festival guests who did not reserve a ticket for the bake. During the festival, guests can enjoy live music by Neal & The Vipers and Funk N’ Country. Neal and the Vipers is a Rhode Islandbased band that performs “American Roots Music.” Their set will include a mix of original songs as well as covers of classic songs and instrumentals. Funk N’ Country is a local band based out of Dighton and Rehoboth. They are a country cover group, peppered in with some funk, rock, and other genres to make for a unique and entertaining mix of songs from classics to today. There will be many activities for all members of the family to enjoy. There will be a classic car show presented by DJ Car-Guy. If you would like to enter a car into the event, contact Rich at 401575-6933. Narragansett Beer and Revival Brewing Co. will each have a cornhole tournament with awesome prizes to win. Guests can also take part in country sign painting classes. There will be instructors ready to assist you in creating your own masterpiece to take home. The festival will provide the supplies, just bring your creativity! There will pony rides presented by Pony Town Parties featuring a “special Unicorn Guest” for younger guests to enjoy. The pony rides will run from 12-5. There will also be face painting by RI Face and Body Art Co. throughout the day. A scarecrow costume contest will take place during the festival. Come dressed up in your best scarecrow costume in order to participate! Signups will be at 11:30, with a parade at 12:30. Prizes will be given out to each age group for the best costume. There will also be a “Scarecrow Stroll” where you can make a donation to the Tomorrow Fund in order to try to win a scarecrow. Scarecrows will be donated by local businesses and organizations. If you are interested in donating a scarecrow, send an email to InformationOnEvent@gmail.com. This event is rain or shine and while many of the festival activities take place outside, there will be plenty to do in the event that it rains. The clambake will be held on a patio and guests will be covered by a roof. There is indoor space to move many of the event pieces inside, indoor museums, and an arcade where guests can stay out of the rain while still enjoying the festival. Guests can also shop at the festival’s craft and vendor marketplace. With over 50 local businesses, there will be a variety of items for sale including crafts, artwork, and autumn decorations. The Dighton Lions Club will be having their “Fall Classic Cow Chip Contest.” Guests can purchase a land parcel on the “field of dreams” for $10. At 5:00, the cows will be brought onto the “field of dreams” and the crowd will wait for the first cow to do its business. Wherever the

“Cow Chip” falls will determine the winner of the contest. The grids will be numbered and whoever purchased that particular grid will win $500. Tickets can be purchased on the day of the festival or in advance at Araujo Farms & Greenhouses, the Chartley Country Store, Bay State Trading Post, or from a Dighton Lions Club member. Ticketholders do not need to be present to win. There will be ample parking for those attending the clambake and festival. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to set up so they can sit with their families and enjoy the food and music. No coolers or outside food and beverage are allowed. Bicycles, skateboards, and weapons of any kind are prohibited. While this is a family friendly event, be sure to keep your pets at home, as they are not permitted. Starting this year, Francis Farm will be open year-round for events. Come to the festival to see what the farm has to offer and to take part in the clambake, a tradition that has been around since the time of Native Americans. This event is a great way to kick off fall, with fun for all members of the family!

Meditation: A practice that can change your life!

When you hear the word meditation what comes to mind? Do you think that someone has to sit in a lotus pose and chant AUM or that it is associated with a certain religious belief. Lots of people view meditation this way but these are meditation myths. Meditation is actually a form of exercise for your brain. By practicing meditation you can become a more focused, happier and healthier individual. Studies show that you can lower your blood pressure, improve your memory, sleep better, decrease stress, depression and anxiety and boost your immune system when you meditate regularly. The benefits of meditation are so vast that many community organizations such as school systems, medical offices, libraries and senior centers are teaching meditation techniques and starting meditation groups. One of the best parts of meditation is that it is free and can be practiced by anyone, anywhere. You just need 1 minute every day to get started. First sit down in a comfortable chair with your spine straight and close your eyes. Next breath normally but watch/feel your breath go in and go out. Your mind will start to wander which is perfectly normal. Every time your catch yourself drifting, bring your attention back to your breath. That’s all there is to it! Once you feel comfortable meditating for one minute you may decide to try 2 minutes. You will know when you are ready, don’t pressure yourself. Group meditation is a great way to find support for your meditation practice. At the East Providence Senior Center we have a group meditation on Fridays from 11 am-12 pm facilitated by Ellen Frazier, Elder Resource Specialist and Ann Marie Sabula, Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist and Certified Diabetes Educator. Come and relax with us. All are welcome.

Bocce Ball

Tuesdays, 9am

Bocce is traditionally played on natural soil and asphalt courts. Bocce balls can be made of metal or various kinds of plastic. Unlike lawn bowls, bocce balls are spherical and have no inbuilt bias. A game can be conducted between two players, or two teams of two, three, or four. A match is started by a randomly chosen side being given the opportunity to throw a smaller ball, the jack from one end of the court into a zone from the far end of the court. Bocce is a calming, competitive way to spend a few hours outdoors.

Scams

Catherine Rose thought she was letting a Microsoft employee update her computer. Instead, the Warwick resident said she gave a scammer remote access to some of her most sensitive files. Even worse -- she paid him hundreds of dollars to do it. Rose said it all started with a voicemail. “Microsoft corporation has stopped the windows services on your computer, to renew Microsoft please call 877-278-9153,” repeats an automated voice message on Rose’s phone. Rose said when she got the malicious message last month, she thought it was legitimate. So, she called back and gave a Microsoft IT imposter remote access to her computer. This voicemail turned into an expensive nightmare for a Warwick woman. “Basically, there was an icon in the lower right hand corner and I think I might have had to acknowledge that,” said Rose. “Then, he could pretty much come in and use the cursor -- a remote cursor and pretty much open what he needed to open.”

Just like that, Rose had granted a scammer access to some of her most sensitive data, including everything from retirement account documents to her browsing history. Still pretending to work for Microsoft, the scammer then asked for payment. “’We're not going to ask you for your credit card information, we want to protect your security,’’ said Rose, recalling what the scammer told her. “’What we want you to do is go to a local Walmart or Walgreens and buy a Google Play card in the amount of $200.’” So, Rose bought the $200 Google Play card. When the scammer called back claiming the card didn’t work, she went back and purchased another $200 worth of prepaid cards. It wasn't until the scammer got a little too creative with the promise of a refund that she became suspicious. “He said unfortunately the company cannot cut me a check to reimburse me that $200, the smallest denomination they can cut a check for is $1,600,” said Rose. Rose hung up and reported the incident to the Warwick Police Department, who said scams like these are becoming common. “So, they can't track them down, they can't get the money back for you,” said Rose. Out hundreds, and still trying to figure out how much of the sensitive information on her computer has been compromised, Rose has a warning for other potential victims. “I'm afraid that other people can get scammed just as easily as I was,” she said. The computer hack is really the most dangerous part of the scam. No one wants to lose $400, but if you give a scammer remote access to your computer, they might be able to find your online banking password and drain your savings account or find your social security number and open credit cards in your name. If you get a call, or see a pop-up window asking for access to your computer, always say no. A senior center member received a phone call on August 13th, message left on the answering machine stated it was Social Security and that he should call a number (240-389-9235) for paralegal help. THIS IS A SCAM! DO NOT CALL THIS NUMBER

You should never give out personal information to someone who calls you. The Government will not and does not call for any personal information.

Dining Guide

Fresh, Fast, Flavorful Meals for Back-to-School Season

(Family Features) The start of each school year brings new routines for families to adjust to, which can leave little to no time to think about dinner. With the right ingredients, however, it’s still possible to create a healthy, home-cooked meal in a matter of minutes, allowing you to spend less time in the kitchen and more time at the dinner table catching up on the day’s events. Cookbook author, actress, designer and mom of two Haylie Duff knows a thing or two about juggling her family’s busy schedule on top of her own. When it comes to getting a fresh, fast meal on the table, she looks for easy meal helpers that help cut down on time, but not on flavor, that she can feel good about feeding to her family, like Smithfield Marinated Fresh Pork. It’s conveniently pre-seasoned, packed with protein and can be grilled, roasted, sauteed or slow-cooked – making it a versatile dinner solution for any night of the week. For your next weeknight meal, try Haylie Duff’s recipes for Tomatillo, Pineapple and Bacon Pork Tacos or Pork Gyros with Fresh Tzatziki, which feature a few simple ingredients and can help you make dinner in a matter of minutes. Find more time-saving tips and fresh, flavorful weeknight dinner ideas for the whole family at SmithfieldRealFlavorRealFast.com.

WE NEED LISTINGS! Celebrating over 40 years in Business!

THE EXPERIENCE MAKES THE DIFFERENCE Since 1975, Mateus Realty has been helping families like yours buy and sell their homes. 48% of the real estate transactions that Mateus Realty facilitated last year were from repeat clients. Our goal in 1975 was not to become a nationwide company, but to help buyers and sellers with their Real Estate needs. Mateus Realty understands the market and the emotion that comes with buying or selling a home, whether you are a first time home buyer in need of some guidance, a growing family looking to expand, or seniors looking to downsize. Our goal is to provide personalized service, professional advice from the beginning of the transaction, to a successful closing. Luis Mateus is personally involved in every single transaction.
