My learning journey at RP has been amazing! I had many opportunities to develop myself in RP. During my internship at a global multinational corporation, for example, I was exposed to HR processes which are useful knowledge to me. Through the internship experience, I learnt more about my strengths and weaknesses and what I need to improve to be a better HR practitioner. There are plenty of reasons why I love RP and my course – the industry exposure, fun-loving classmates, dedicated and experienced lecturers – just to name a few! In particular, I believe RP’s Problem-based Learning pedagogy has made me a more confident and outspoken person. My RP education has greatly benefitted me as I am able to come up with more creative solutions to address issues encountered on a daily basis, which is a much valued skillset in the working world. If you love to indulge in good reads, you will be delighted to know that RP has a great library! The RP Library is not just a wonderful place to study but it also houses a café where you can enjoy a scrumptious meal while having discussions with friends! I believe the education and values that I have gained at RP will be beneficial in preparing me for something greater in my near future. Passion can take you to great places, and it keeps you going even when you experience roadblocks and obstacles along the way. Choose an RP course that you are interested in, and you will not regret it!

We have had two interns from SMC in my company previously, and they have been a source of joy. I would rank them very highly amongst the almost 50 interns we have had in our company over the years, who were mostly from local and overseas universities. The SMC interns had deep desires to learn and they could take on menial tasks with dignity, at the same time, they were able to accept criticism positively. Their excellent problemsolving skills and hands-on approach to work were admirable. All leaders of organisations will agree that these qualities are important yet increasingly rare today. SMC must be doing it right to produce such students. Mr Viswa Sadasivan CEO Strategic Moves Pte Ltd

Hear it from our Industry Partner: An excellent individual who is positive, a team player and highly creative, Kane is made for the industry! Well-loved by the entire team, he is very committed to the work assigned and has never missed a deadline. He is also attuned to current trends and his knowledge in music is a plus to the station. Moreover, he possesses high EQ and is very receptive to ideas. He will take an idea and move it to the next level. Beyond all these exceptional qualities, he is also a great problem-solver and has the ability to always come up with different interesting angles on his shoots and edits. For one who has limited shooting experience, he has more than proven himself to be a great all-rounder. I think the industry is lacking talents like his and I would take him in as a part of the family in a heartbeat. Project Rookie is a local community service programme organised by Singapore Management University’s Business Society, Bondue. In this programme, the five polytechnics are invited to send teams of students for a series of workshops. At the end of these workshops, the teams have to present an innovative and feasible business plan on “Improving the Lives of Singaporeans” at the Project Rookie Business Plan Competition Finals. Two SMC teams, one each from DHRMP and DMC, participated in the competition, which was held on 1 July 2017. The DMC team (Project A Team) clinched the championship with their winning idea of an app called “Famhub”. This app would encourage subscribing families to stay in touch through messaging one another, coordinating their calendars in addition to making purchases. The judges were impressed with the team’s maturity, feasibility of the proposed plan and excellent presentation delivery.
Financial Expedition (FINEX) is a team-based expedition challenge that seeks to impart fundamental finance knowledge to all students in tertiary institutions and universities. Inspired by The Amazing Race, participants go through the game stations around Singapore, learning the basic mechanism of a particular financial instrument at each station. They then apply the learnt mechanisms in the subsequent interactive games. Financial concepts introduced to students include the basics of budgeting, investments, trading and insurance. The grand finale was held at Microsoft HQ at Marina Boulevard. In FINEX 2017, RP’s team from the Investment & Finance Interest Group (IFIG): Team Harambe, was led by SMC lecturer, Mr Alan Seow. They did RP proud to emerge as 2nd runner-up.
RP Bags the Excellent Award at Singapore Cancer Society Inter-Polytechnic SmokeFree Competition 2017 A team of DMC students won the Excellent Award (2nd prize) at the Singapore Cancer Society Inter-Polytechnic Smoke-Free Competition, taking home a trophy for RP as well as $800 worth of shopping vouchers. The team of four, Year 2 DMC students, pitched and presented at the finals, finishing above more established communications and media schools. The achievement was memorable as this was the first time that DMC students have participated in a fully fledged Public Relation / Marketing competition.
RP Teams Showcasing Their Strength in Brand Planning Two SMC teams participated in the Global Chinese Brand Planning Competition 2017 and won the Silver Category award. This is a brand marketing plan competition organised by the Global Chinese Marketing Federation (GCMF) to showcase bright and exciting new marketing talents from global universities. Charmaine Bong from DCBR also represented RP in the debate competition in the English Category. The proposition team debated on the topic: “Essential products should be marketed extensively”, which saw the team winning the competition.
